The Abyss is a massive, primordial realm like no other. 

It is the birthplace of the first magical energies, reapers, transcendent energies, forces of darkness, and a lot of other things. It is still the center of all of those today, except it has grown a lot over the years and has become the supreme epicenter of all magic. It is split up into various pocket dimensions that are easy to get lost in if you aren't very familiar with the realm. Each one of these dimension has its own story and purpose; some are beautiful and serene while others make Hell look like a paradise. Some are simply places to store energy, some are even just vaults to store powerful artifacts. It all depends on where Alastair and/or the reapers decide you should go or what you should see.

The only way to enter the Abyss is if a reaper takes you there or if Alastair himself grants you entry.
