━━━━i. The Graves household always carried an air of quiet hostility, where warmth was replaced by indifference and expectations were wielded like weapons. Vynessa was never the obedient daughter her parents wanted. She was sharp, willful, and unrepentant in the face of their demands to conform. Their arguments were never loud but were instead a series of sharp-edged words that cut deeply, each leaving a scar that didn't heal. Her independence was seen as rebellion, her ambition as arrogance. For years, she fought to exist in a home that treated her presence as an inconvenience, a mistake they were too proud to admit.
The night they kicked her out wasn't a culmination of fiery tempers or dramatic declarations. Instead, it was the quiet cruelty of packed bags waiting for her when she walked in. They didn't scream or cry; they just told her it was time to go, their voices devoid of emotion. No threats, no ultimatums—just the devastating finality of being unwanted. Gotham's streets welcomed her that night, cold and uncaring, but at least they didn't lie about what they were. As she walked into the neon-lit darkness, she realized she wasn't mourning the loss of her home—because it had never really been hers to begin with.
But what was our girl really supposed to do?
━━━━ii. Desperation does strange things to people, and for Vynessa, it honed her into a thief. Her first act of theft was clumsy but necessary—a stolen meal to quiet the gnawing hunger in her stomach. As she roamed Gotham's endless sprawl of shadows and chaos, she discovered a knack for taking what she needed and slipping away unnoticed. Small jobs turned into riskier ventures, each success building her confidence and skill until she was more ghost than girl.
What began as necessity soon became a craft. Vynessa's natural agility and quick thinking allowed her to pull off increasingly daring heists. She started targeting wallets in crowded streets, jewelry left unattended in careless homes, and eventually, she moved on to bigger scores. Thievery wasn't just survival anymore—it was power, a way to reclaim control over a life that had spun wildly out of her grasp. But as her skills grew, so did the risks. Each heist felt like a game against Gotham itself, and with every success, she felt more like she belonged to the city's shadows.
But as good as you think you are, everyone needs a mentor, whether we like it or not.
━━━━iii. The streets may have been Vynessa's training ground, but Gotham had a way of humbling even the boldest of thieves. One fateful night, after narrowly escaping the police, she realized she wasn't alone. The feeling of being watched set her nerves on edge, but when she finally spotted her pursuer, it was almost laughable. Selina Kyle—Catwoman herself—was leaning against the rooftop edge, her silhouette backlit by the city's glow. For a moment, Vynessa thought she was done for, but instead of scorn or anger, Selina offered something unexpected: a chance.
Under Selina's guidance, Vynessa transformed from a scrappy street thief into a professional, answering to the alias—Vesper. Selina saw potential in the girl—the same fire she'd once had—and decided to shape it. Vynessa learned not just the art of stealing but the philosophy behind it. Selina's lessons weren't just about technique; they were about survival, independence, and the delicate balance of taking what you need while never giving too much of yourself away. The two developed an unspoken bond, more mentor and apprentice than friends, but there was trust—something neither of them gave lightly.
Now, enter our second main protaginist.
━━━━iv. Nightwing and Vynessa's paths were destined to cross, their lives bound by Gotham's unrelenting chaos. From the moment Dick Grayson encountered her, he was both intrigued and unsettled. Vynessa wasn't like the villains he typically faced. She wasn't driven by greed or malice but by something deeper, something he couldn't quite pin down. She existed in the gray area between right and wrong, her actions teetering on the edge of redemption and ruin.
For Dick, her complexity was magnetic. She challenged his ideals, forcing him to confront the black-and-white morality he'd clung to as Robin. She was a puzzle, each encounter leaving him with more questions than answers. But beneath the frustration was admiration, and beneath that, something even more dangerous: feelings he didn't want to admit. Vynessa wasn't someone he could save, nor was she someone he could walk away from. She lingered in his thoughts, a constant reminder of how blurred the lines could become when the heart got involved.
━━━━v. Vynessa Graves is a paradox—a survivor shaped by pain but unwilling to let it define her. She's sharp-tongued and fiercely independent, her every move calculated to keep her one step ahead of a world that's done nothing but take from her. In her, Gotham has found a kindred spirit: someone who thrives in the shadows, drawing power from the city's chaos even as it threatens to swallow her whole. She's an anti-hero by nature, leaning toward the villainous side not out of malice but out of necessity.
Yet beneath her hardened exterior lies a complexity that defies labels. Vynessa isn't a villain in the traditional sense—her motives are too personal, too layered for that. She doesn't steal for wealth but for survival and control. She doesn't push people away because she hates them but because she fears the vulnerability that comes with letting them in. In a city full of masks, hers is one of necessity, not deceit. She's a storm in human form, unpredictable and untamed, yet there's a quiet hope buried deep within her—a hope she'd never admit to, but one that keeps her fighting nonetheless.

━━━━ i. disclaimer ! This book contains graphic depictions of violence, deaths of main characters, strong language particularly in heated moments. Viewer discretion is advised.
━━━━ ii. credits ! In no way do I aim to steal the plot of Young Justice. All credit goes to DC and Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman for the original plot and lines. Although, there will be more original plot of mine and my OC's belong to me. Every graphic/GIF/photo you see here was made by scratch by me. Do not use or steal my graphics credits or not!
━━━━ iii. iris' truth ! Whenever an "IRIS' TRUTH" appears at the end of the chapter, that's usually me yapping about things that you probably don't even care about.
So it appears I now have a theme for DC book intros. That's really weird for me as I just wing it but this theme fit best for my DC books!
When I tell you I STRUGGLED with the first GIF. I've done many GIFS like that but I have never struggled as much as I did. The playlists also gave me a headache as I had to compile songs, put them into a playlist, create and crop the Spotify code and make it fit the color theme. I also had to find a way to send the image from my phone to my Mac because you can't create a Spotify code on any other device other than mobile (I think).
Speaking of color theme, the background of this GIF:
I found the color theme super pretty and it fit with our protagonist's color themes; blue for Dick and gold for Vyn! I just decided to use that for the overall theme for this book and it turned out super pretty.
━━━━ iv. dedications ! All young justice fans! I dedicate this book to you!
