Chapter 4 I'm Confused...

Anne ran up the stairs to her Green Gables room quickly and enthusiastically.

'I'm going to be eating dinner with Gilbert Blythe,' she kept repeating over and over in her head. She looked it the mirror and realized she was blushing.

"I'm blushing again!" she sighed exasperatedly. "It's not like I have a crush on Gilbert Blythe. We are simply friends and academic rivals." She looked in the mirror and it was evident she was disappointed but ignored it.

Anne went to her closet in the corner of her room and pulled out her, at the moment, favorite dress. It was a dark, sapphire blue dress, with delicate white trimming along the neckline and wrists. And the best part, it had puffed sleeves! She signed contently. This would be the first time she wore it since she designed it a week ago at Miss. Jeannie's shop. Marilla had told her she could not wear it to school for it could get dirty, so she was only allowed to wear it for church and special occasions. As much as Anne wanted to argue, she knew she would probably get it ruined if she wore it to any other place but church.

Anne set the beautiful dress down on her bed and made her way downstairs. Marilla was cleaning the kitchen when Anne walked in.

"Marilla, what chores would you like for me to do before we leave?" Anne asked.
Marilla thought for a second.

"Just wash the dishes in the sink please Anne, then you can go and see if Matthew needs any help in the barn."

Anne nodded and got to work cleaning the dishes. She carefully cleaned them, dried them, and put them away, neatly. She set the towel down and ran outside towards the barn. Matthew and Jerry were in the barn, stacking piles of hay, when Anne ran in.

"Can I do anything to help, Matthew? Marilla said I could come out here to see if you needed anything once I was done with my inside chores." Anne asked.
"You can go a brush Belle in the horse stall, before we have to leave, if you want to Anne," Matthew said.

Anne nodded happily and skipped toward the horse stall.

In the barn, Matthew was talking to Jerry.

"You can go on home early today, Jerry. You've worked hard today," Matthew said with a smile.

Jerry looked up and smiled.

"Merci beaucoup, Mr. Cuthbert. À demain."

And with that Jerry went off to his families farm, leaving work for the day.

Meanwhile in the horse stall, Anne was talking to Belle, the beautiful brown mare that she met when she got adopted by the Cuthbert's when she first came to Prince Edward Island, and was brushing her mane.

Anne sighed. "Belle, I don't know what to do. Me and Gilbert are rivals, but we have been friends every since Bash and Mary's wedding. It's confusing how I can't help but feel this spark between us, when we talk, look at each other. It's just really confusing feelings."

Belle neighed in response. Anne chuckled. "Maybe I should talk to Diana about this tomorrow. I'll go see her first thing. She'll want to know and she gives great advice."

Anne continued to brush Belle's mane, back, and shoulders until she felt like she was done.

"Goodbye dear Belle. I will see you later," Anne said as she hugged and blew a kiss towards her chestnut horse. She then walked towards Green Gables to get ready for dinner.

Hi! Hope you enjoyed the chapter! Sorry it's a little short. It was just a filler chapter to put in between what happened in the last chapter and what will happen in the next chapter (the dinner next). Next update should be soon because I still need to finish writing it.
