October 1984

It had been exactly one month since Montana ended up in the 80s, and she was beginning to think she was going to be stuck in this timeline forever. Mr. Miyagi was the only one who knew about her being from a different time, and she didn't even question how he knew. He did everything he could to help her, but he was just as confused about her situation as she was. All she knew was she wanted to go home.

She spent a lot of her time with Ali, who was very sweet and made sure Montana felt welcomed at West Valley, and became Montana's confidant and best friend, which is something she truly needed, as she missed her true best friends: Makayl and Nicki.

Montana was also friends with Daniel and the Cobras, but Daniel and Ali were the people she felt she could trust, and not worry about trying to date her, as Daniel was vying for Ali's affection.

Montana nearly gagged at the thought of any of the boys liking her, Dutch and the other Cobras making her the sickest, but, she was raised to treat everyone, no matter their social class, with dignity and respect, so that's what she did.

"Hey Montana!" Daniel greeted.

Montana smiled warmly as she closed her locker and embraced the boy in front of her. "Oh hey Daniel." she spoke gently. "How's it going?"

"Good." Daniel said, as the two pulled away from the embrace, and walked side by side. "Hey, are you going to the upcoming Halloween dance?"

Montana smiled and nodded in reply. "I planned on it, what about you?"

Daniel shook his head. "No, I think I just stay home."

"No, don't do that." Montana said. "We could go together if you'd like. Besides, I think I Ali would love to see you." she suggested

"I don't think so, not after how I snapped at her." Daniel said.

Montana stopped walking and so did he. "You never know unless you try." she said

"Well, I've got to go, but I'll see you later." Daniel said as he embraced her

Montana smiled softly as she returned his embrace, then Daniel walked away. The tall blonde walked into the gym, where she found Ali, Susan, and Barbara setting up for the Halloween dance.

"Montana, over here!" she heard someone call. Turning her head, she saw Ali, Susan, and Barbara waving her over.

Montana smiled and walked to the helium machine and greeted the three girls. "Hi girls." she smiled as Ali embraced her

"Hi!" Susan smiled

"Are you going to the dance?" Barbara asked as she gave a balloon to Ali

"I planned on it." Montana smiled as she tied ribbon around the balloon. "Even though I've never been a party person."

"Well, you have to come." Susan said as she opened another bag of balloons. "It's the time of year when the jocks get shitfaced and make idiots of themselves.

"Sue, that's at the after party." Barbara laughed

"But still." Susan laughed

Susan and Barbara talked about their costumes while Ali and Montana had a conversation of their own and continued blowing up balloons. "So, what are you dressing up as?" Ali asked as she gave a balloon to Montana

Montana tied ribbon around the balloon then replied, "Well, I saw this really pretty cowgirl costume, and it's pink, well more of a dark pink." she smiled as she tied the balloon to the helium machine

Ali smiled as she blew up another balloon, then turned to the tall blonde. "I love that. You have the skin color for pink."

"Hey pretty girl, over here!" Montana heard someone call. Turning her head, she saw the Cobra Kais waving her over to their table, where they were putting together skeletons.

Montana turned to Ali, who gave her a smile. "Go ahead. I'll catch you later." the shorter blonde smiled

Montana smiled and walked to the Cobra Kais. "You know, Tommy, I do have a name." she laughed

Tommy shrugged his shoulders with a grin. "I know, but pretty girl seems to fit you better." he winked

Dutch and Bobby rolled their eyes. "Anyways Montana, are you going to the dance?" Dutch asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulder."

Montana nodded. "I'll be there." she said as she helped put the skeletons together. "By the way, what are you guys dressing up as? Have you thought about it?"

"Skeletons." Johnny said, as he painted the skeleton's arm.

Montana furrowed her brows in confusion and gave him quizzical look. "A skeleton? How is that going to-" Before she could even finish her sentence, she was cut off by Tommy

"You'll just have to wait and see pretty girl." Tommy said, and Montana rolled her eyes

"Hey Tommy, come help me hang up this disco ball!" Susan said

Tommy rolled his eyes and dropped the paint brush then walked to help Susan hang the disco ball, while Bobby, Dutch, and Jimmy walked to the table to get more paint.

"So, what are you going as for the dance?" Johnny asked

"I was thinking a cowgirl, but the costume is pink, but it's not too pink." Montana said, followed by a light chuckled

"Y'know, I can't shake this feeling, we've met before." Johnny said. "It's strange."

Montana wanted to cry. Maybe he was beginning to realize who she was, and she could tell him who she was, but then she remembered what Mr. Miyagi told her, that everything had to remain exactly the same.

"Well, maybe we knew each other in another life or something." Montana said. "I see you're listening to Van Halen. I love them."

"Seems we have something in common." Johnny smiled.

"We have more than that in common." Montana thought to herself.

"What did we miss?" Dutch asked as he set the paint on the table and stood next to Montana

"Nothing."

It was the night of the Halloween dance and Montana walked into the school gymnasium, the sound of music and loud chatter meeting her ears. Black and orange decorations were hung on the walls while a disco ball hung from the ceiling, casting white lights on the gym. People were milling around, dressed in different costumes and chatting excitedly with their friends and significant others.

"Hi girls!" Montana smiled

Ali, Susan, and Barbara turned around and smiled at the tall blonde, who looked like a living Barbie. "Hi!" the three girls said. "Oh my gosh, you're so beautiful."

"Thank you, you girls look great as well." Montana smiled

As the four stood around chatting, they noticed Daniel in a shower curtain wall in the gym. Ali's eyes lit up, and Montana could see it. "Hey, there's Daniel." the shorter blonde brightly smiled

Susan began looking around with a scowl on her face. "Where?" she asked

"The shower." Ali laughed

"How do you know?" Susan asked

Ali smiled brightly. "I just know." she replied as she grabbed a flower from Barbara's jacket. "May I?" the shorter blonde left to go dance with Daniel while her friends stood and watched

"I don't know what she sees in him." Barbara said

"She must be into fungus." Susan said

"Well, I'm gonna go grab some punch, would you girls like some?" Montana asked

"I'm alright, thank you though." Barbara smiled. "I'm alright as well." Susan smiled

Montana smiled and nodded as she walked to the refreshment table to grab herself a cup of punch, as Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time began to play. After pouring herself a cup of punch, she turned around to see couples dancing with one another, or just people dancing with people who weren't couples. As the song continued to play, she thought of Jack, and how much she missed him. At this point, everyone back home must have stopped wondering what happened to her by now.

As she was sipping her punch, she felt someone tap her shoulder. Turning around, she was met with the brown eyes of Dutch. "Hi." Montana smiled

"Hey." Dutch smiled

"Nice costume, even though you look like a toddler in footie pajamas." Montana laughed

"Hey, you know I look badass." Dutch laughed

Montana rolled her eyes and laughed as she took another sip of her punch. "Alright, you keep telling yourself that."

"Would you like to dance?" Dutch asked

"Sure." Montana smiled

The two walked to the dance floor, and she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and he had his arms around her waist. She moved her arms and wrapped them around his back so she could put her chin on his shoulder. They were swaying away, until he broke the silence.

"You look really pretty tonight, Montana." Dutch smiled.

Montana couldn't help but smile brightly, she didn't understand why she was smiling so bright. "Thank you Dutch." she smiled. Dutch wrapped his arms around Montana's shoulders, pulling her into a hug. She gave a beautiful smile, and wrapped her arms around his torso, hugging him back. "You wanna go outside?" she asked

Dutch looked at her. "You talked me into it." he smiled

Just as the two were about to walk away, they heard Tommy call his name, and he cursed under his breath. "Fuck, those idiots ruin everything." Dutch groaned in annoyance. He turned his head, to find Bobby, Tommy, and Jimmy waving him over.

"Go ahead. I'll dance with Ali." Montana said

"I really wanted to go outside with you." Dutch said

"It's okay. We can later." Montana reassured.

Dutch embraced her one last time, then walked over to Tommy. At the same time, she saw Johnny go into the boy's restroom. Turning her head, she saw Ali leaving Daniel's shower curtain, a bright smile on her face.

"Montana!" Ali smiled as she ran up to the taller blonde

Montana smiled as she embraced the shorter blonde. "I was wondering where you and lover boy ran off to. So what happened with the two of you? Please tell me it was something exciting."

Ali blushed a bright red. "Well, we were about to go outside, when some guy dressed in a chicken suit and using real eggs threw an egg on Daniel's head. But I saw you dancing with Dutch. Anything exciting happen?"

"Well, like you and Daniel, we were about to go outside, but were interrupted by the Cobras." she laughed

A loud crash came from the men's bathroom. The girls turned to their sides and saw Daniel running out of the boy's bathroom. "Get out of my way! Get out of my way! Look out!" he shouted, and made his way over to Montana and Ali

"Daniel, what's wrong?" Ali asked in concern

"Are you all right?" Montana asked in concern as she stood next to Ali

"It's comin' around!" Daniel shouted at them as he handed Ali his shower head from his costume and fled the gym

Montana furrowed her brows and gave Ali a look of confusion. "What's coming around?"

"Get him!" Johnny yelled

Montana turned her head and saw Johnny running out of the bathroom. His hair was drenched and he was beyond pissed. Ali used Daniel's shower head from his costume to trip Johnny, and the others fell down with him too.

Montana had mixed emotions about what happened: Daniel soaked her father with the water hose and Ali tripped her father. she wanted to be pissed because in her time, she was highly protective of her father, and in her eyes, he did no wrong, but seeing him now in a different light, she still loved him unconditionally because at the end of the day, the Johnny Lawrence she knew, was so different than the Johnny Lawrence these people knew.

"Get up!" Johnny screamed at the Cobras in anger, in which they stood up and fled the gym

"What the fuck happened now?" Susan asked as she and Montana walked to the entrance of the gym

"Johnny ran out of the bathroom beyond pissed with his hair drenched chasing Daniel. Ali used Daniel's shower head to trip him." Montana said, her eyes misty

"Hey, you okay?" Susan asked

"Yeah, I'm gonna go." Montana said. "I'll see you later."

"Be careful going home, okay?" Susan said

Montana nodded and smiled in reply, then bid her friend goodbye, as she headed back to to the apartment complex. She had a sinking feeling in her stomach she couldn't explain why.

Meanwhile, in the field that led to the South Seas apartment, the Cobra's were pulling Daniel down from the fence that led to his apartment complex.

"He ain't going over!" Johnny said

"What's the matter sweetheart?" Dutch mocked.

"We got him now." Johnny said

"You little wimp!" Tommy yelled as he kicked Daniel in the stomach and then shoved him into Johnny.

"You couldn't leave well enough alone, could you little twerp? Nah, you just had to push it! Well now you're gonna pay!" Johnny yelled as he gripped Daniel by his collar

Johnny lifted Daniel by his collar and pushed him to Tommy, who kicked him in the gut, then pushed him back into Johnny.

Johnny punched Daniel in the gut, grunting, making him fall to the ground. Dutch picked him up and laughed. "Where you going, sweetheart?" Dutch mocked, then

Johnny delivered a roundhouse kick to Daniel's face making him stumble. "What's the matter? Trying to kick Johnny?" Jimmy said

Johnny kicked Daniel in the face, punched him and Daniel flew into the fence, then fell to the ground. "Get him up!" Johnny spat angrily

Dutch picked up a barely conscious Daniel and held him up. "Hey, leave him alone man, he's had enough." Bobby said

"Shut up, Bobby!" Dutch said

"Look at him Dutch. He can't even stand up!" Bobby said as he yelled at Dutch

"So what?!" Tommy screamed

"That don't mean squat." Dutch said angrily

Bobby then walked up to Johnny, hoping to make him understand. "Johnny, leave him alone man, he's had enough!!"

"I'll decide when he's had enough man!" Johnny said

"What is wrong with you Johnny?!" Bobby angrily spat

"An enemy deserves no mercy, right?!" Johnny yelled

"Right!" Dutch yelled

"Right!" Tommy yelled

"You're crazy man!" Bobby yelled

Johnny went to kick Daniel, but he missed. When Mr. Miyagi jumped over the fence and pushed Daniel out of the way and waited for the Cobra Kais to attack him

"Tommy!" Bobby yelled

"Bobby get him!" Tommy yelled

After Mr. Miyagi fought the Cobra Kais, he turned his head to find a barely conscious Daniel. After placing Daniel over his shoulder, he carried him back to the apartment complex.

After Montana took her costume off, and put on her joggers and tee shirt, she walked down the hall and out the front door, and down the steps, towards Mr. Miyagi's shed. She gently knocked, before she opened the door to the shed. "Mr. Miyagi?"

"Come in, Montana-San." Mr. Miyagi said

Montana quietly walked in the shed, and turned her head to find Daniel lying on the cot, after Mr. Miyagi had tended to the wounds on his face. Taking a seat next to him, and with tears threatening to spill, she asked "Will he be alright?"

"He will be, Montana-san. Drink tea. Feel better, and no cry." Mr. Miyagi said as he gave her a fatherly smile and gave her a cup of tea

Montana took a sip of tea, and it was honestly the best cup of tea she ever had. She remembered Samantha making the tea quite often. As she set the tea cup down, Daniel stirred awake. "Montana?" Daniel said

"Hey." Montana smiled

"Leave on." Mr. Miyagi instructed as Daniel tried to take off the wet towel

"It stinks man, what is it?" Daniel asked

"Smells bad. Heals good." Mr. Miyagi said

"Hey where'd Spider-Man go?" Daniel asked

"Who?" Mr. Miyagi asked

"The guy who bailed me out, where'd he go?" Daniel asked, while Mr. Miyagi just sat there with a proud smile on his face.

With a surprised expression, Daniel asked, "Wait you?" Mr. Miyagi gave him a nod

"No way." Daniel said

"Why no way?" Mr. Miyagi asked

"Because, because..." Daniel started trying to find the right words to say

"Because, because old man?" Mr. Miyagi asked in a teasing manner. "Have a tea, feel better" Mr. Miyagi said, offering Daniel some tea. Daniel sat up and slowly drank his tea, holding the cloth to his head.

"How come you didn't tell me?" Daniel asked

"Tell what?" Mr. Miyagi asked

"That you do karate." Daniel said

"You never asked." Mr. Miyagi said

"Where'd you learn it from?" Daniel asked

"Father." Mr. Miyagi said

"I thought he was a fisherman." Daniel said

"In Okinawa, all Miyagi know two thing: fish and karate. Karate come from China, 16th century. Called 'te'. 'Hand'. Much later, Miyagi ancestor call 'karate'. 'Empty hand" Mr. Miyagi explained.

"I always thought it came from Buddhist temples and stuff like that." Daniel said

Mr. Miyagi shook his head. "You watch too much TV."

"That's what my mother tells me." Daniel said. "Have you ever taught anyone?"

"No." Mr. Miyagi said.

"Would ya?" Daniel asked hopefully

"Depend." Mr. Miyagi said

"On what?" Daniel asked

"Reason." Mr. Miyagi said

"How's revenge?" Daniel asked

"Daniel-san, you look revenge that way, start by digging two grave." Mr. Miyagi said

"Well at least I have company right?" Daniel asked jokingly

"Fighting always last answer to problem." Mr. Miyagi replied.

"Uh, no offense, but I don't think you understand my problem." Daniel said

"Miyagi understand problem perfect. You friend all karate student, eh?" Mr. Miyagi asked referring to the Cobra Kais

"Friend? Oh yeah those guys." Daniel responded

"Problem. Attitude." Mr. Miyagi said

"No, problem is I'm getting my ass kicked every other day. That's the problem." Daniel said

"Because boys have bad attitude. Karate for defense only." Mr. Miyagi said.

"That's not what these guys are taught." Daniel said.

"I can see. No such thing bad student. Only bad teacher. Teacher say student do." Mr. Miyagi said.

"Oh great that solves everything for me. I'll just go down to the school and straighten it out with the teacher. No problem." Daniel said sarcastically

"Now use head for something other than target." Mr. Miyagi said, followed by a chuckle

"I was only kidding about that." Daniel said

"Why kidding?" Mr. Miyagi asked

"Because I'll get killed if I show up there." Daniel said

"Get killed anyway." Mr. Miyagi said

"Would you go with me?" Daniel asked

"No, can't." Mr. Miyagi said

"Why you said it was a good idea, right?" Daniel asked

"For you, good idea. For me, good idea no get involved." Mr. Miyagi said.

"But you're already involved I mean..." Daniel started

"Very sorry." Mr. Miyagi said

"What?" Daniel asked. He sighed angrily and dropped the wet towel. "Well, thanks for nothing then." Daniel said as he got off the cot. "Whatever, don't do me anymore favors, ok, pal?"

"Daniel-san?" Mr. Miyagi said getting his attention

Daniel turned back around. "What?"

Mr. Miyagi stood up and walked towards him. "Okay, I go."

"Excellent. Excellent. This is great. Hey what kind of belt do you have?" Daniel asked

"Canvas. You like? J.C. Penney. $3.98." Mr. Miyagi said proudly holding his belt making Montana giggle.

"No, Mr. Miyagi I think he meant what belt you are in karate?" Montana asked, clarifying what Daniel meant

Mr. Miyagi placed a fatherly hand on Montana's arm, then replied. "Montana-San, in Okinawa, belt mean no need rope to hold up pants."

"That's funny." Daniel said

"Daniel-San, Montana-San, karate here. (pointed to their heads) Karate here (pointed to their hearts) Karate never here (gestured to their ribs) Understand?" Mr. Miyagi asked them.

"I think so." Daniel said, and Montana just nodded and smiled sweetly

"Goodnight Daniel-san." Mr. Miyagi said, as Daniel turned around to leave.

"Goodnight, Mr. Miyagi." Daniel said. "You too Montana."

Montana smiled in reply as she sat down on the cot, and Mr. Miyagi gave her a cup of tea, then sat down as well. "You okay, Montana-San?"

Montana sat her tea cup down on the saucer plate, then replied, "To be honest, I don't know. There's just so many unanswered questions going through my mind, reguarding my father. The Johnny Lawrence you all know is so different than the one I knew." she said as a tear fell

"Montana-San, sometimes people change for the better when they meet right person. Father met mother and became better person, yes?" Mr. Miyagi asked and Montana nodded in reply. "Then you must understand, this was long time ago, don't hold against father. Father love you, you love father, yes?"

Montana nodded her head and tearfully replied, "More than anyone, even my own mother."

"You will find balance in life Montana-San, time will also come for you to tell father who you are, just not now." Mr. Miyagi said. "Now, go home. Get rest. Much has happened."

Montana smiled and nodded in reply. "Thank you. Goodnight Mr. Miyagi."

"Goodnight, Montana-San."
