January 1990
𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 their romantic wedding, Rebecca and Bobby whisked themselves away to the breathtaking island of Fiji for their honeymoon. One of their favorite adventures was the Lavena Coastal Walk, a winding trail of lush greenery and hidden treasures. At the end of the path, nestled deep within the jungle, they discovered a secluded waterfall—so ethereal and untouched, it left Rebecca breathless. It was a vision the brunette had never seen, one she would never forget.
They also met a warm, middle-aged Fijian couple who graciously invited them to learn traditional dances. Laughing and swaying to the rhythmic beats of island drums, Bobby and Rebecca felt even more connected—two souls completely in sync.
Lately, she'd been plagued with waves of nausea during work meetings, dizzy spells that made her grip the edge of the table, and mood swings that caught even her off guard. She couldn't quite figure out the trigger. Was it someone's new perfume? A change in her diet?
Even the smallest things set her off.
After waking up, Bobby stood in the kitchen making his morning cup of coffee, and didn't offer Rebecca any. It was a simple oversight, but to her, it felt like a betrayal.
Standing in the kitchen with her arms folded tightly across her chest, she narrowed her eyes at her husband. "Why didn't you offer me any coffee?"
Bobby gave his wife a look like she had lost her mind. "Bec, I'm so sorry. If I had known you wanted some, I would have offered." he sweetly said
Feeling upset and offended, Rebecca rolled her eyes and scoffed. "Well, you don't know if you don't ask." And with that, she spun on her heels, storming out of the room, slamming the bedroom door behind her, leaving her beloved husband seriously confused
The next morning, soft golden light slipped through the bedroom curtains, warming the room with its glow. Rebecca stirred beneath the covers, her stomach twisting into knots.
"Bec, are you okay?" Bobby asked as he rubbed his wife's back.
Rebecca covered her mouth and threw the covers off, before running into the bathroom. In the bathroom she crouched on the floor barfing as Bobby held her hair back.
She didn't answer. Instead, she bolted upright, hand over her mouth, and raced to the bathroom. Kneeling over the toilet, she emptied her stomach as Bobby followed, crouching beside her and holding her hair back.
"You don't need to see this, honey," Rebecca said, her voice ragged between coughs.
"I'm not leaving you alone in here," Bobby replied, his hand never leaving her back.
Once the worst had passed, she flushed the toilet, washed her face, and brushed her teeth, trying to erase the sour taste in her mouth. Bobby stayed close, steady and reassuring.
Back in bed, Rebecca nestled under the covers, and Bobby returned with a damp rag and a glass of ice water.
"You didn't have to do that," she whispered.
"I know," he said softly, placing the cloth on her forehead. "But I wanted to."
Tears welled in her eyes. "I'm sorry I snapped at you yesterday. I didn't mean to. Please forgive me."
"Hey," he said gently, rubbing her side. "I love you."
"I love you more." She smiled, then hesitated. "I was a monster yesterday. You didn't—"
"Didn't I tell you I love you and I forgave you?" he interrupted with a smile.
Rebecca nodded, the smile fading as she fidgeted with the bedsheets. "Bobby... I think we need to see Dr. Bailey."
Concern crept into his features. "What's wrong?"
She took his hand. "My period's late. Mine always starts the day after Ali's. She finished hers five days ago."
An hour later, dressed and anxious, they sat hand-in-hand in the waiting room of Dr. Bailey's clinic. Dr. Bailey had been Rebecca's gynecologist for years—trustworthy, comforting, and kind.
"You feeling okay, sweetheart?" Bobby asked, caressing her knuckles with his thumb.
"I'm alright, just... a little nervous," Rebecca admitted with a smile.
"Hey," he whispered, kissing her temple. "It's going to be alright."
An older nurse named Jackie appeared in the doorway, her kind eyes crinkling with her smile. "Rebecca Brown? We're ready for you, honey."
The husband and wife stood as Jackie guided them to the room. After she took Rebecca's vitals, she left the room, and Bobby held her hand. After a few minutes, Dr. Bailey entered. "Hello, Rebecca, hello, Bobby," the woman greeted them with a smile.
"Hi, Dr. Bailey." Rebecca smiled
Dr. Bailey sat down in front of the couple. "So, Ms. Rebecca, tell me, what's going on today?"
"For the past few weeks, I've had mood swings, nausea, and now my period's late," Rebecca explained.
"Well, I would like to order a blood and urine test. Does that sound good?" Dr. Bailey asked, and Rebecca smiled and nodded in reply. "Alright, I'll have Jackie come in and draw the labs and get you set up for your urine and I'll be back in to go over your results." Dr. Bailey said as she stood up
"Thank you." Rebecca smiled.
"You're welcome." Dr. Bailey said. "Hang tight."
After Dr. Bailey left the room, nurse Jackie came in to draw Rebecca's blood, then she went across the hall for her urine test. After waiting for about 15 minutes, Dr. Bailey came back in the room, and the husband and wife held hands
"Well," she said with a smile, "your hCG levels are positive in both tests. Congratulations—you're pregnant."
Rebecca gasped softly. Bobby's arms were instantly around her. "Oh, Bec..." he smiled.
"Congratulations to you both," Dr. Bailey added.
"Thank you," they said in unison, hearts brimming.
Dr. Bailey prepped the sonogram machine and began the scan. "How have you been feeling?"
Rebecca sighed. "A little more fatigued than usual... and the vomiting."
"That's completely normal," Dr. Bailey reassured. "Your morning sickness should ease soon. And look here... your baby is the size of a pomegranate seed."
Bobby kissed Rebecca's forehead as they stared in wonder at the flickering image on the screen. The couple intertwined their hands, as the image of the tiny growing baby appeared on the monitor, and Bobby kissed her forehead
"Congratulations again to the both of you." Dr. Bailey said
"Thank you." the couple said as they intertwined their hands and shared a kiss.

Life had shifted beautifully. Four months had passed since they learned they were expecting a little girl—Joni Marianne Brown. Recognizing the need for more space, the couple decided to move out of their one-bedroom home and into a larger one. Bobby, determined to surprise Rebecca, chose a new home in the Encino area, which remains close to Dean, Sam, Adaline, and Clark. The house boasts a two-story design with an early 1970s's aesthetic, a style that Rebecca particularly adores. It features a vintage balcony on the second floor, a pool, a spacious backyard, and beautiful antique windows.
"Bobby, why are we here?" Rebecca asked, looking at her husband
Bobby handed Rebecca a house key, "This is our new home. I bought it."
"What? How?" Rebecca asked
"The money I had been saving, it was for our new house. Come on, beautiful." Bobby smiled
He opened her door and helped her out. Hand in hand, they walked to the front door. Rebecca stepped inside, her eyes sweeping over the vintage furniture—gifts from Adaline and Clark.
The kitchen gleamed with a full-range stove, six counters, and a central island. Bobby placed his hand on the small of her back.
"Let me show you the living room," he said, leading her further inside. Rebecca instinctively placed her hand on her baby bump. The walls were beautifully adorned, the fireplace glowing with quiet charm.
Upstairs, they explored three bedrooms. The master suite featured its own bathroom and a balcony that overlooked the yard. But Bobby had saved the best for last.
"There's one more surprise," he said. "Come with me."
He led her into the nursery.
The crib stood in the corner—crafted by Mr. Miyagi himself. The dresser had been Rebecca's as a baby, lovingly restored. On top, sat her beloved music box, which played the enchanting melody of Once Upon a December.
"Mr. Miyagi made the crib, and your dad said the dresser belonged to you as a baby." Bobby smiled as she smiled in reply, trying not to shed tears. As he walked to the other side of the room, she heard him say, "Angel, it's all here. Can you just see it?"
Rebecca closed her eyes and opened them, and for a fleeting moment, or perhaps two, everything seemed to come alive. She was gently jolted back into reality by the familiar voice of her beloved husband. Despite the sudden jolt, she didn't mind it at all.
"What do you think?" Bobby asked
Rebecca smiled brightly, then replied, "Yeah, I love it."
"We have a home." Bobby said happily, embracing his wife, then he placed his hand on Rebecca's baby bump, then kissed her lips.
"Oh, a home."
