chapter two: an explanation
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
"as in past tense?"
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

aurora sat down in her english class, smiling when she saw scott and stiles walk in. scott sat behind her while stiles sat next to him, the both of them smiling at her, glad to see that they had another class together.

aurora turned around, pulling out her notebook and textbook and putting them on her desk. her eyes shift towards the door, seeing allison and lydia walk in. she watched as lydia took a seat next to stiles while allison still looked around for a seat. aurora looked at her before her eyes landed on the empty desk in front of her.

obviously, the argent girl was trying to avoid aurora, but it looks like she didn't have a choice.

allison walked up to the desk, smiling at aurora. "is anyone?"

"uh, no. seat is all yours." aurora answered, awkwardly.

allison nodded, setting her books down before sitting.

"so. . . you guys still haven't talked?" scott whispered to aurora, leaning forward in his desk.

"nope. not even close to having it." aurora whispered back.

scott pat her shoulder before he sat back in his chair. all of the students looked down at their phones, the cellular devices ringing and vibrating on the desks. aurora furrowed her eyebrows, picking her phone up to see that it was a quote from a book.

"'the offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway, leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under an overcast sky, seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness." a woman read as she walked into the classroom.

it was the same quote that everyone was just sent, which told aurora that she was the one who sent it. but how the hell did she get everyone's number.

"this is the last line to the first book that we are going to read." the lady started. "it is also the last text you will receive in this class. phones off, everyone."

aurora watched as the lady walked around to her desk, aurora turning her phone off and putting it in her pocket.

the teacher, everyone learning that her name was ms.blake, started writing notes on the board, everyone copying them down as she talked. aurora turned the page in her notebook before she went back to writing the notes down. she stopped when she saw a folded piece of paper appear on her desk.

she looked up, seeing that allison was looking at her before she turned back around.

aurora raised her eyebrows before she put her pen down and picked the paper out. she gently unfolded the paper, trying not to make any noise.

can we talk so i can give you a "great" explanation?

aurora looked back up, seeing if ms.blake was still writing on the board, which she was. she quickly grabbed her pen, writing down,

sure :)

she quickly folded the paper up again before she quickly put her arm out, handing the paper to allison over her shoulder. she felt allison grab the paper, making her retract her arm and go back to work.

"mr.mccall?" ms.blake asked, making both aurora and scott look up.

it turns out that scott had to leave because his mother needed him at the hospital. hopefully it wasn't nothing too bad.

aurora felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up, making her stop writing. she felt goosebumps appear on her skin as she looked around, trying to see what could've happen to make the feeling appear.

of course it would appear as soon as scott left.

suddenly there was a thump at the window, making everyone turn towards it. aurora furrowed her eyebrows, seeing that there was splattered blood on the window. her eyes then looked passed that, seeing there were a herd of crows flying towards them.

at first, she didn't think nothing of it, think that they would fly over the school. but she jumped when another bird flew into the window, leaving splattered blood.

the rest of the bird followed pursuit, some of them even managing to break through the windows and fly into the classroom.

"get down, everyone!" ms.blake yelled.

aurora watched as more and more crows flew into the classroom, watching as they clawed at people. she heard allison let out a yelp, making her instantly look at her. she saw that there was a crows clawing it's way at her which made aurora get up and slap it away. she then covered allison with herself, looking down at allison to make sure that she was okay.

she groaned as she felt a bunch of crows claw at her arms. she looked up to search for stiles and lydia, seeing that stiles was covering lydia. she winced as she felt a crow slash at her cheek.

once all of the crows had stopped flying around, someone had called the police. aurora looked around the classroom, seeing that a bunch of people were bleeding from being clawed at by the crows. she looked at allison, who was right next to her.

"you okay?" she asked the argent girl, stepping in front of her.

"yeah, just a little shaken up." allison answered. she then looked up, seeing that there was blood dripping down aurora's cheek. "you have blood on your cheek."

aurora brought her hand up, wiping her right cheek. allison chuckled, seeing that aurora had wiped the wrong cheek.

"let me -" allison said, bringing up her hand.

she gently put her hand on aurora's cheek, using her thumb to wipe away the blood. aurora had melted into allison's hand, feeling relieved and content for some reason.

"is this someone else's blood or did you get scratched?" allison asked, taking her hand away.

"it's mine, but i healed." aurora answered, slightly disappointed that allison moved her hand.

aurora looked passed allison to see that chris was at the door. the both of them looked at each other, aurora giving him a smile before she started walked away from allison.

"i'm gonna go call max." she told the girl before she grabbed her phone from her pocket.

she turned her phone on, scrolling through her contacts before she came upon max's. she tapped it, waiting for her uncle to answer the phone.

"why are you calling me in the middle of your school day?" max asked as soon as he answered.

"because something happened." aurora answered.

"what happened?" max asked.

"a bunch of crows flew into the windows of the classroom i was in." she said.

"what?! are - are you okay?" he asked, slightly panicked.

"yeah, yeah. i'm okay." aurora said, smiling slightly. "i jumped over allison to protect her."

"whoa. allison's back? since when?" max asked.

"last night."

"huh. well. . . i can't get off of work right can you ask her if you can go with her?"

"yeah. i'll ask." aurora said.

"okay. stay safe, kiddo. love you." max said.

"love you too." aurora said before hanging up.

she had walked over to chris and allison, scratching the back of her neck. the two looked at her with raised eyebrows.

"max wanted to know if i can go home with you guys until he gets off of work." aurora told them, feeling like a little kid asking if they could sleep over.

"yeah, of course." chris said.

"okay. um, i'll go get the rest of my stuff from my locker." aurora said.

"i'll go with lydia to get hers." allison told her father.

the three girls exited the classroom, allison and lydia going towards lydia's locker while aurora went to her's. she grabbed her jackets in bag.

"where's scott mccall and aurora hastings?" aurora heard an unfamiliar voice ask.

she looked towards the direction the voice came from, wondering who was asking and why.

"you're allison, right?" the voice asked, making aurora close her locker and start making her way towards lydia's locker.

"yeah, how do you know -" allison started to ask.

"where's scott?" the voice asked, aurora still trying to get to the two girls.

"he had to leave. he was -" allison started.

"what about aurora?" the voice interrupted.

"she's just -" allison started to answer.

"when is scott coming back? or where is aurora?" the voice ask.

"why the fuck are these hallways so long?" aurora mumbled to herself as she tried to speed up her pace.

"hey, easy with the physicality, sweetheart." lydia said.

aurora furrowed her eyebrows as it got quiet, turning the corner just in time to see a woman walking away from lydia and allison. she walked up to them, gently putting her hand on allison's shoulder.

"are you guys okay?" aurora asked, looking down the hall in the direction the woman went. "i heard everything from my locker."

"yeah. yeah, we're okay." allison answered.

"no, i'm not. she bruised me." lydia said, making aurora look down at her left wrist to see a bunch of lines.

"huh, me too." allison said, looking down at her own wrist.

"come on, let's get you three girls out of here." the voice of chris appeared. "school can wait another day."

the three walked down the hall, aurora feeling how tense allison was. she gently brought her hand up, rubbing her back to calm her down.

~~~
"this is a nice apartment." aurora said as she looked around.
chris and allison had moved into an apartment instead of back into their old house. aurora understood why, there were too many memories in that place that included victoria. she felt exactly the same when her and max first came back.
"thanks." chris said. "i'll be in my office."
the three girls nodded, watching as chris disappeared behind a corner. allison began to lead lydia and aurora to her room, which still had a bunch of boxes sprawled around.
"sorry that it's a mess. we're still unpacking." allison told them.
aurora smiled, standing uncomfortably at the door as she looked around the room. allison watched her, wanting to talk to the girl, but lydia was there.
lydia being the smart, beautiful girl that she is, caught on. "i'm gonna go to the bathroom to fix my lipstick."
aurora nodded, stepping out of the way so that lydia could exit. she tucked her hands into her pockets, awkwardly standing there.
allison pulled the note from earlier out, throwing it at aurora. the hastings girl quickly took one of her hands out of her pocket, catching the note. she looked down and smiled, knowing what was about to happen.
"you said you wanted an explanation, right?" allison asked.
"yeah. yeah, i want one." aurora answered, putting the note down on her dresser.
allison smiled before she sat down on her bed, patting the spot beside her. aurora walked over before sitting down, looking over at allison.
after a few seconds, the argent girl sucked in a breath. "when you kissed me -"
"i get it. . . you just broke up with scott and -" aurora interrupted, not being able to stop herself.
"it wasn't because of that." allison said, stopping aurora from talking. "like you said, i broke up with him. but he made me realize the reason i was breaking up with him was because i had feelings for you."
"had? as in past tense?" aurora asked.
"i still have feelings for you, rora." allison told her, a small smile on her face. "but after we kissed. . . i don't know, something was just holding me back. i was still mourning my mother, and i felt like i didn't deserve you after everything that i've done."
aurora looked at her with sad eyes, not knowing what to say.
"so. . . i decided not to keep in touch or try and reach out because that's how i felt." allison continued.Β
"so why did you come back?" aurora asked.
allison looked up at aurora, staring right into her brown eyes. "because i have some unfinished business here."
aurora raised her eyebrows, feeling her heart start to beat faster in her chest.
"we have some unfinished business." allison added.
aurora watched as allison's eyes flicked down to her own lips, making her stomach fill with butterflies. they were about to kiss. they were about to kiss! they were about to -
the two girls jumped apart at the sound of aurora's phone ringing. she quickly pulled it out, seeing that it was scott calling her. she released a sigh, trying to calm herself. she answered it and brought it to her ear.
"hey. where have you been?" aurora asked him.
"um. . . it's a long story." scott answered from the other side of the phone. "where are you right now?"
"allison's house." aurora said, looking over at said girl who was blushing. "why?"
"stiles is coming to pick you up. we got a lot to tell you." scott told her. "but good news, my tattoo came back."
"how?" aurora asked.
"also a long story." scott said, making aurora roll her eyes. "me and stiles will tell you everything later, okay?"
"okay." aurora said before hanging up.
she quickly sent the address to stiles since he was most likely gonna go to the old one.
she looked down at her phone before she turned to allison, seeing that her cheeks were still red. she felt really bad for leaving, but it seemed like what scott had to tell her was important.
"hey, uh, stiles is on his way to come get me." she told her.
"oh, okay." allison said, disappointed.
"i would stay, but they have to tell me something and seems really important." aurora quickly said, feeling bad.
"no, it's okay. i'll just see you tomorrow at school." allison assured.
"i'll call you when i get home, okay?" aurora told her, standing up from the bed.
allison nodded, "okay."
"thank you for giving me an explanation. it means a lot." aurora said, a genuine smile on her face. "we can finish whatever was about to happen some other time. i promise."
"okay." allison repeated, smiling.
aurora bent down, kissing the top of allison's head before she turned and walked to the bedroom door. she stopped herself, turning back around.
"also. . . i like your haircut. you look hot." she told allison, watching as the argent's girl cheeks turned red.
this made the gamma wolf's smile widen, turning back around to exit the room. she had seen lydia standing right there in the hallway, hearing everything thag the two had discussed.
"bye, lyds." she told the martin girl.
"bye, rori." lydia said, smiling at her before she entered the room.
aurora exited the house and made her way down to the lobby.
~~~

scott and stiles had told aurora everything that had happened today. from what happened with isaac to scott finding out about the alpha pack. they were at aurora's houses since max wasn't gonna be home fire a few more hours.

"so. . . there's a whole alpha pack here, in beacon hills?" aurora asked, processing everything she had just found out.

scott and stiles nodded their heads.

"that makes sense." she mumbled. "i mean, not really but yeah."

"what makes sense?" scott asked.

"there are a set of twins in the school, they're new. but they're werewolves." aurora told him. "you can't miss them."

it went quiet for a few seconds, everyone trying to get their thoughts together. but then aurora looked at scott's arm, remembering that he had told her his tattoo was back.

"how'd you get your tattoo back?" she asked him.

scott and stiles looked at each other, knowing that she wasn't gonna like what they were about to say.

ten minutes later, aurora was standing in front of her stove, the stovetop grates being off of the stove and on the counter next to it. she looked at the boys like they were stupid.

"so what you're saying is that i have to burn myself for my tattoo to come back?" she asked scott.

"pretty much." stiles answered.

"yeah, i'm not doing that." aurora said.

"do you want your mother's pack symbol on you or not?" scott asked.

aurora looked at him, thinking real long and hard about this. "fine. turn it on."

stiles quickly turned the stove on, heading it click before the fire appear around the eye. he turned it up to the max level, the flame growing.

"i'm not holding her down." stiles told scott. "it's your turn."

scott rolled his eyes but stood behind aurora. the hastings girl took off her jacket, throwing it onto stiles. she stuck her right arm out, eyeing the flame hesitantly.

"this is gonna hurt like hell." she mumbled to herself.

she then stuck her arm into the fire, making her instantly start to scream. scott quickly held aurora in place, starting to feel her struggle under his hold. stiles closed his eyes, turning away.

scott grabbed aurora's arm, holding it in place. aurora felt her canines start to grow into fangs, her eyes switching to the white color. she continued to scream in pain, holding onto the stove.

suddenly, she passed out. scott held her firmly in his arms, quickly turning the burner off. he winced once he saw the blisters and burn marks on aurora heal, but they started to heal, revealing the tattoo. he gently picked her up and put her onto the couch.

"you guys better not get any more tattoos." stiles told his best friend, making scott chuckle.

aurora eyes shot open, gasping for breath. she quickly looked around before her eyes shot down to her forearm, seeing that her tattoo was there.

"it worked." she let out, relieved.

"i told you." scott said, smiling.

"i'm glad." aurora said, smiling down at her down forearm.

~~~
aurora got out of the shower, looking down at her tattoo. she was really happy that she was able to get it back, making her feel closer to her mother. she wrapped her towel around herself before exiting the bathroom and going to her room.
she quickly got dressed before she plopped down on her bed. she suddenly remembered that she told allison that she would call her when she got home, and it's been hours. she got so distracted with everything that scott and stiles told her.
she grabbed her phone and went to contacts. she scrolled until she clicked on allison, bringing the ear up to her ear. she heard it ring for a few seconds, starting to think that allison was asleep. but she smiled once she heard a click.
"hey." allison greeted, happy that aurora had called.
"hey. i'm sorry that i didn't call you once i got home. scott and stiles told me a bunch of stuff and i got distracted." aurora quickly explained.
"it's okay. i figured." allison said.
"so what did you and lydia do once i left?" aurora asked, leaning against her headboard.
"tried to pick out a color that i can paint my room." allison answered, wondering if she should tell aurora about her and lydia's wrist. "hey, you remember the bruises on our wrists?"
aurora furrowed her eyebrows. "yeah, why?"
"they connect to one another. it makes a symbol." allison told her.
"do we know what symbol?" aurora asked.
"no. not yet at least." allison answered.
"do you think it's important?" aurora asked.
"yes. i mean, you heard the woman. she wasn't just asking where you and scott were, it's like she needed you guys." allison explained.
"okay. we'll look into it." aurora promised.
"okay." allison yawned.
"you should go to sleep." aurora told her, smiling at how cute she had sounded.
"yeah, i was thinking that." allison joked.
"goodnight, ally." aurora said.
"goodnight, rora." allison said before hanging up.
aurora plugged her phone up on its charger before putting it on her nightstand. she laid down, turning her lamp off. she grazed her hand over her tattoo again, smiling. her smile then widened as she remember what happened in allison's room. or. . . what almost happened.
either way, she was extremely happy.
