then she realized something. . . the hairs on the back of her neck was standing up, goosebumps prickling her skin. then something was telling her that stiles was actually in trouble, and that made her heart drop.

on cue, her phone started ringing, making the hybrid jump at the sudden noise. she quickly reached over to grab it, seeing that it was stiles. her breath hitched as she stared at the contact name, hoping - no, praying that the stilinski boy wasn't in any trouble and it was just a dream.

she accepted the call before she brought her phone up to her ear. "hey, smart, what's up?" at first, she didn't hear anything, making more nerves creep up her spine. "stiles?"

nervous breaths then filled her ear, only making her anxiety worst.

"stiles? you there?"

"aurora?" the hushed voice of stiles called, the said girl sitting up in her bed.

"yeah, i'm here. i'm here. are you okay? can you hear me?" she said, gripping her phone tightly.

"aurora, i don't - i don't know where i am. i don't know how i got here. i think i was sleepwalking." stiles whispered, aurora hearing how scared her best friend was.

"okay, um, can you see anything?" she questioned, trying to stay calm. "just tell me what you see.

"ah, it's dark. it's hard to see. i think there's something wrong with my -"

the line disconnect, making aurora's heart drop. she quickly pulled her phone back, making sure that they actually disconnect before she let the panic sink in.ย  she climbs out of her bed, redialing stiles' number before she brought her phone back up to her ear.

"hey -" stiles voice appeared.

"stiles?" aurora said quickly.

"this is stiles and you missed me. leave a message -"

aurora pulled her phone away before she quickly hung up. she redialed the number, repeating her actions. she started to pace the room, "come on."

after a few rings, stiles voicemail started playing once again. aurora hung up once again before she pulled her phone back. "come on, stiles."

then, her phone started to ring again, stiles' contact popping up with his picture as well. the hastings girl quickly answered it, bringing her phone up to her ear. she was surprised that she didn't slap herself with how fast she had brought her phone up.

"stiles?"

"aurora, i don't think i can get out of here. i can't move."

"where are you?" aurora asked.

"i don't know. i don't know, it's too dark. i can't see much." stiles answered. "but something's wrong with my leg. it's stuck on something. and it's - i think it's bleeding."

"how bad? stiles, how bad is it?" aurora quizzed. she didn't receive an answer for a few seconds, more worry flowing through her veins. "stiles, are you there? can you hear me?"

"there's some kind of smell down here. something smells terrible. it's brutal. my eyes are watering." stiles informed.

"okay, listen. i'm gonna call your dad."

"no, no, no, no, don't."

"but your dad -"

"don't. just - just please don't call him. promise you won't." stiles begged. "he already worries about me too much. aurora, please."

"but what if i can't find you? stiles, i can't make a promise like that." aurora asked.

"no, no, no, just please. please, don't call him. come find me. you can do it. he doesn't have to know. rori, you can find me." stiles tried to reassure, but his shaky voice was only adding to aurora's panicked state.

"i don't know if i can do this." she mumbled.

"oh, i gotta call you back. i have to turn the phone off." the freckled boy said.

"what? no, hey. wait -" aurora started.

"i'm gonna call you back." stiles repeated.

"hold on, stiles wait! hold on." aurora tried, but the line had already went dead.

with that, she quickly dialed scott's number and brought her phone back up to her ear. she then slipped her shorts off as she hopped over to her dresser. she quickly pulled out a pair of gray sweats, basically hopping in them. "isaac! isaac, wake up! isaac!"

she pulled a hoodie over her head just as her bedroom door busted opened, revealing a panicked isaac. aurora groaned once she got scott's voicemail, quickly redialing his number.

"why? what's wrong?" he quizzed, looking at the girl who he considered his sister.

"it's stiles. get dressed." aurora answered as she slipped on a pair of sneakers.

"what's wrong with stiles?"

aurora stood up, feeling her heart drop to her stomach. she didn't know what was going on with stiles, and that's what terrified her. she didn't know what to expect, and she didn't know what to look. and that only made her spidey sense get worse, her stomach churning.

"i don't know." she answered. "please, i. get dressed."

the lahey boy nodded, running back to his room to get dressed.

"what's up, rori?" the groggy voice of scott appeared.

"scott, get up and get dressed. stiles just called me and something's wrong, okay? he - he doesn't know where he is and he's hurt. he thinks he was sleepwalking. but we have to find him. i'll be there as soon as possible." aurora informed.

"yeah, okay. i'll be ready." scott said, sleep leaving his body.

with that, they hung up. aurora then went to max's room, seeing that it was empty, meaning that the hastings man was working a late shift, which aurora hated. but that also meant that he wouldn't be worried about his niece and the boy that he considered his son. just as she was walking towards the stairs, isaac left his room, the both of them going downstairs.

as she was walking towards the door, her phone started to ring again. she quickly looked at it to see that it was stiles.

"hey, stiles." she greeted, isaac standing beside her so that he could hear.

"did you call him? did you call my dad?" stiles quizzed in a hushed tone.

"no. just scott and isaac. we're coming to find you. can you figure out where you are?" aurora answered. "try to find something and tell us where to look."

"it's a basement. i think. . . i think i'm in some kind of basement." stiles said.

"in a house?"

"no. it looks bigger. like industrial. i think there's a furnace. but it's cold. it's freezing down here." the stilinski boy described. "i gotta turn the - i gotta turn the phone off. it's going to die."

"wait, wait, wait." the hybrid said quickly. "what else is there? what do you see?"

"the phones dying. i can't talk. i have to go." stiles whispered, aurora noticing something. "please."

"stiles, why are you whispering?" she asked.

still in the hushed tone, the freckled boy answered, "because i think there's someone in here with me."

that one statement made the two werewolves' hearts drop. before anyone of them could say anything, the line went dead, meaning stiles' phone died or he hung up. the duo quickly left the house, aurora and isaac getting in aurora's car. they quickly made their way to scott's house, worry and anxiety flowing through aurora's veins. once they pulled up in front of the mccall residence, scott immediately climbed in.

"what's going? what's happening?" he quizzed as aurora pulled off.

"i don't know, okay? he called me and he was whispering. the line kept going dead." she answered, not really sure on how to explain it.

"did - did you call his dad?"

"he made me promise not to."

"why the hell would he do that?" isaac questioned.

"he doesn't want to worry him." aurora said, speeding towards the stilinski residence. "you know what scared me the most?"

"what?" isaac and scott asked in unison.

"i had a nightmare about him." the hastings girl mumbled, her grip on the steering wheel tightening. "it was too dark to see, even with my wolf eyes. but i could hear him. he was. . . he was crying, and calling for someone to help him. and when i woke up, the hairs on the back of my neck was standing up and there was goosebumps all over me."

"your spidey sense." scott elaborated, making her nod.

"has that ever happen before? you dreaming about someone being in trouble and then you find out that they are?" isaac quizzed.

"no." aurora answered.

"is it still there? your spidey sense?"

"yeah. and it's only getting worse."

when they had finally pulled up in front of the house, they all climbed out of the car and rushed inside, not noticing a certain blue jeep was missing. they quickly entered the familiar home, aurora using her key, before they ran up to stiles' room. when scott slammed the door opened, the three werewolves were met with lydia and aiden.

"how did you know? did he call you too?" scott quickly quizzed.

"i heard it." lydia answered.

"don't ask. it get's very confusing if you ask." aiden quickly said.

"don't worry. we wasn't gonna." aurora quickly shot back, glaring at him from her spot behind scott.

she still despised the twins for what they did to boyd. she honestly didn't think that she would be able to forgive them. but she shouldn't be thinking about that right now. one of her best friends were in trouble.

"not as confusing as this." lydia mumbled, turning around to look at stiles' walls.

the gray painted walls were covered in posters, pictures, newspaper articles, and other pieces of papers. and then, there were red pieces of yarn coming from almost each direction, all of them being tied to a pair of silver scissors, which were stabbed into stiles' bed.

"he uses red for unsolved cases." lydia informed.

"maybe he thinks he's part of an unsolved case?" aiden suggested.

"or is unsolved case." isaac corrected.

"hold on. is he still out there?" lydia asked. "you don't know where he is?"

"he said he's in an industrial basement somewhere." aurora said, her voice cracking slightly.

"we came here to get a better scent." isaac added.

"what else did he say?" lydia questioned.

"something's wrong with his leg. it's bleeding." aurora answered.

"and he's freezing." isaac added.

"tonight's the coldest night of the year. it's going to drop into the 20s." aiden informed.

"what did his dad say?" lydia asked.

"we kind of. . . we didn't tell him yet." aurora said.

"stiles is bleeding and freezing and you didn't call his dad?" lydia scolded, looking at aurora and scott like they were insane.

"he made me promise not to." the taller girl mumbled. "we can find him by scent. i - if he was sleepwalking, he couldn't have gotten far, right?"

"you guys didn't notice his jeep is gone, did you?" aiden asked.

"you promised you wouldn't call his dad, i didn't." lydia said, pulling her phone out.

"wait, lydia, hold on. we can get more help. we can call derek, allison -" scott tried.

"everyone except for the cops. great idea."

"you guys remember she only gets these feelings when someone's about to die, right?" aiden questioned.

aurora glared at the omega wolf, not liking the fact that he was here in the first place. she then turned to look at the strawberry blonde beside him. "you don't have to call his dad. it's five minutes to the station."

with that, aurora, scott, and isaac all turned to exit stiles room.

"we'll catch up." lydia told them, making all three of them turn back around.

"what? why?" scott quizzed.

"there is something here." lydia answered.

"yeah. evidence of total insanity." isaac commented.

"isaac." aurora said, her voice stern.

"sorry."

"we can figure out what's wrong with him after we find a way to keep him from freezing to death." scott said.

"go. we'll be right behind you." lydia told the three werewolves.

"punch thing 2 if you need to." aurora told lydia, letting her eyes throw daggers at him before she left with scott and isaac.

โžถ๏ธŽ โ˜ ๏ธŽ ๐“ƒฆ โ˜ ๏ธŽ โžถ๏ธŽ

aurora, scott, and isaac all arrived at the police station, and as soon as they got there, they told noah what was going on. they had interrupted him just as he was talking to one of the deputies, parrish. the three of them watched as noah's demeanor changed, turning around to process the new found information.

"if his jeep is gone, that's where we start." he started, turning back around to face the teenagers. he then turned towards deputy parrish. "parrish, let's get an apb out on a blue 1980 cj-5 jeep." he then turned to look at another deputy. "cordova, i want a list of any kind of industrial basement or sub-level of any building that he could've gotten into while sleepwalking. it's the coldest night of the year so far. so if he's out their barefoot in just a t-shirt, he could already be hypothermic. let's move fast. let's think fast. the three of you, come with me."

with that, the trio entered noah's office, the sheriff himself following behind them before he closed the door.

"okay, is there anything you need to tell me that i can't tell anyone out there?" noah asked.

"lydia knew he was missing." scott answered.

"can she help find him?"

"well, she's working on it." isaac said.

"anything else?"

"we called derek and allison for help." scott informed, gesturing to himself and aurora.

"can you find him by scent?" the sheriff questioned, looking between the three werewolves.

before anyone could answer, there was a knock on the door before it opened, parrish's head poking in. "we got it, sir. we found the jeep."

"where is it?" aurora asked, speaking up for the first time since they told noah what had happened.

"beacon hills memorial hospital."

noah and a few other deputies quickly grabbed their coats and left the station, aurora, scott, and isaac following them. the police climbed into their cars, while the three teen wolves climbed into aurora's. they arrived at the hospital, all of them getting there quickly since it was the middle of the night. noah and the three teens climbed out of their cars and went over to stiles.

"it's dead." noah said, turning to face the trio behind him. "he must have left the lights on."

"why would he come here?" aurora and scott asked in unison.

"let's find out." noah said before he started to walk towards the entrance of the hospital.

when they were inside, melissa and max was already at the door waiting for them. "security's doing sweeps of every floor. nothing yet." melissa informed.

"what about the basement?" noah questioned.

max nodded his head, silently saying follow me. he led everyone down the the basement while scott, aurora, and isaac went to the roof. they ran all the way up the stairs before they burst through the door, seeing derek standing a few feet away.

"he's not here. not anymore." derek told them, his back facing them.

"you mean the whole building?" scott questioned.

"gone." derek confirmed.

"i'll go tell stilinksi." isaac said to scott and aurora, the lahey boy going back into the building.

aurora pulled her phone out to see if she had heard anything back from allison, but there was nothing. she huffed before stuffing her phone back into her pocket.

"did you hear anything from allison?" scott asked, thinking the same thing as the girl beside him.

"nope." aurora mumbled, running her hands through her hair frustratingly.

the two teen wolves then walked over to derek, seeing that he was looking over the city this whole time. the three of them stayed silent for a few seconds, scott and aurora trying to come up with a new plan to find their best friend.

"notice how strong the scent is up here?" derek asked the both of them. "ever hear of chemo signals?"

"chemical signals that communicate emotion." aurora mumbled, making scott look at her with knitted eyebrows and derek nod. she saw the confused look that still sat on scott's face. "just our sweat can give off anger, fear, or disgust."

"take deep breath and tell me what you feel." derek instructed.

the two werewolves did as told, scott closing his eyes as aurora just took a deep breath. she could basically feel the emotion that was radiating stiles from the moment she stepped onto the roof.

"stress." scott mumbled.

"and anxiety." aurora added.

"what was he doing up here?" scott asked derek.

"i don't know. but there was definitely some kind of struggle." the hale man answered.

this made aurora and scott look at him with furrowed eyebrows. "with who?"

"himself."

โžถ๏ธŽ โ˜ ๏ธŽ ๐“ƒฆ โ˜ ๏ธŽ โžถ๏ธŽ

it's been a few hours since aurora had heard anything from allison. and she really hated to leave the search for her best friend, but what if her nightmare about allison was gonna come tru tonight as well? the shadowy figure wouldn't tell her how close or far in the future it was gonna happen, so it could happen at any point. so here she was, pulling up in front of the apartment building that her girlfriend lived in.

as she climbed out of her car, she noticed that chris' truck was no where to be seen, which meant he wasn't there. aurora entered the apartment building and went up to the floor the argents lived on. once she was at the door, she started banging on it, hard. the door swung opened, revealing a tired allison.

"why haven't you been answering your phone? what have you been doing?" aurora quizzed as she checked allison for any wounds or bruising.

"i was sleeping, rora." allison answered, rubbing her tired eyes as she felt aurora turn her around. "what's going on?"

aurora stopped from checking if her girlfriend was hurt, entering the apartment before she closed the door. "you didn't get any calls or texts?"

allison looked at aurora with furrowed eyebrows before she went towards her room. the taller girl followed her, entering the room to see allison looking at her phone.

"my phone's off." the argent girl informed as she powered her phone back on. "you know i never turn my off."

once the cellular device came back on, a bunch of notifications appeared on the screen. she read through the texts that was mostly from aurora, but a few were from scott as well. she turned towards her girlfriend with a worried look.

"sleepwalking? is he okay?"

"i - i don't know." aurora stuttered, trying her best not to breakdown. "we can't. . . we tried following his scent and it's just all over the fucking place. and i'm freaking out ally. i - i can't lose him. i love scott, but stiles was there when my mom died. he - he knew what if felt like. i can't. . . i can't lose him." she rambled, hot tears streaming down her cheeks as she started to hyperventilate.

allison pulled her into a hug, letting the girl cry into her shoulder. she felt her heart break with every sob that shook aurora's body, trying to calm her down by whispering soft nothings into her ear. they pulled away when aurora's phone started ringing, the hastings girl pulling it out to see that it was scott.

"hey, did you guys find him?" she sniffled, wiping her bloodshot eyes.

"were you crying, rori?" scott questioned, hearing how broken she sounded.

"uh, yeah. it's nothing." aurora answered. "did you find him?"

"yeah, my parents and your dad found him in the den that malia was in. they're taking him to the hospital." scott answered.

"okay, good." aurora said before she hung up. "they found him. they're taking him to the hospital." she informed allison.

"okay, that's great." allison whispered, looking back down at her phone. "i really don't know what happened. i never turn my phone off."

"i know." aurora nodded, wiping her face.

she went to her voicemail, seeing that it was completely full of voicemails from an unknown number. she clicked on one of them, the sound of a man speaking japanese filled the room. the two girls stared down at the phone with furrowed eyebrows.

"who's that?" aurora questioned.

"it's an unknown number." allison mumbled, continuing to listen to the voicemail.

"what the hell?"

โžถ๏ธŽ โ˜ ๏ธŽ ๐“ƒฆ โ˜ ๏ธŽ โžถ๏ธŽ

aurora was pulled out of the land of sleep by the sound of her phone ringing. she rolled over on allison's bed and grabbed it, seein g that it was her uncle calling. she looked over to allison to see that she had began to stir in her sleep, so she got up from the bed and left the room.

"hey, max. how's stiles?" she whispered into the phone, leaning on the wall outside of allison's room.

"that's actually what i wanted to talk to you about." max said, aurora noticing how his voice wasn't upbeat like usual. "you remember when you were younger, and his mom got sick?"

"yeah." aurora mumbled, feeling her heart tug at the mention of claudia.

"he's showing the exact same symptoms for frontotemporal dementia." max informed, making his niece's heart drop. "they're gonna run some tests on him this afternoon. you can come by whenever you want, okay?"

"yeah, okay." the hybrid said.

"love you, kiddo."

"love you, too."

with that, the both of them hung up. aurora was still in her clothes from being out all night, so she just slipped her phone into her sweats pocket. she slid down the wall as max's words began to sink in. she couldn't even imagine what noah was feeling right now. stiles was the only person he had left. and aurora couldn't lose someone else, not after erica and boyd. she just couldn't.

and then something came to her mind.

"the bite." she whispered.

โžถ๏ธŽ โ˜ ๏ธŽ ๐“ƒฆ โ˜ ๏ธŽ โžถ๏ธŽ

aurora and scott were standing next to stiles, who was sitting on the mri table. aurora had been at the hospital all day, not giving two shits about school or if she was missing work. her friend was more important. she had been inside the room that they had gave stiles, sleeping on one of the chairs as she waited for him to wake up. noah was there as well, but he had to go sign papers and stuff for the test. melissa and max would come in and check up on the stilinski boy, the both of them not having to work.

aurora had been there for every test they ran, and she could see the large amount of trauma on stiles face. she knew he was having flashbacks to when his mom was in this situation. and she wished she could help.

and now, the three teens and three adults were standing in the mri room, anxiously waiting for the testing to begin.

"i'm not sure i know how to pronounce this." the doctor said, looking down at stiles' file. "or if it's not actually a misspelling."

"just call him stiles." noah told him.

"okay." the doctor mumbled, closing the file as he turned towards the stilinski boy on the table. "stiles, just to warn you, you're going to hear a lot of noise during the mri. it's due to pulses of electricity going through the metal coils inside the machine. uh, if you want we can get some earplugs or headphones."

"oh, no, no. i don't need anything." stiles said.

"hey," noah said, making his son look at him. "we're just on the other side of the window. okay?"

"okay." stiles nodded.

with that, the three guardians and the doctor walked out of the room and into the one that would monitor everything going on with the mri, the other side of the window.

"you know what they're looking for, right?" stiles asked his best friends.

the both of them nodded, melissa telling scott, and max telling aurora.

"it's called frontotemporal dementia." stiles continued. "areas of your brain start to shrink. it's what my mother had. it's the only form of dementia that can hit teenagers. and there's no cure."

aurora and scott looked at one another, tears running from their cheeks. they had been thinking the same thing already.

scott wiped the tear that had slipped from his eye. "stiles if you have it, we'll do something."

stiles looked up at them his eyes flickering between them as he started to understand what scott was saying. both werewolves was able to give the bite now because they were both alphas. and aurora, her healing abilities was so advanced that she would try anything if it meant stiles would still be standing in the end. even if it meant she was the one dying on the floor.

the freckled boy nodded his head, pulling his best friends into a group hug. they stood just like that for a few minutes, all wrapped up in each other's arms as they tried not to cry. from the other side of the window, max, noah, and melissa were watching their kids, seeing how badly this was affecting the three of them.

after awhile, scott and aurora pulled away. they gave stiles a reassuring nod before they walked into the room that everyone else was in. the stilinksi boy laid back on the table just as the lights in the room dimmed down. the doctor pushed a button that made the bed enter the actual mri machine.

"okay, stiles. this will take about 45 minutes to an hour." the doctor spoke through the pa system. "now remember, try not to move. even just a little bit."

aurora knew how hard that was gonna be for him, since the boy had adhd. she felt scott wrap his arm around her, hearing how fast her heart was beating. she looked up at him, the mccall boy giving her a small nod before he turned back to look through the window.

"stiles, you're going to hear that noise now. it's gonna be aloud clanging. kind of like a hammer hitting an anvil." the doctor informed.

just like he had just said, the clanging noise appeared. aurora wondered how stiles would be able to do this with no music playing, hearing how loud the noise was from her spot in the other room.

at some point during the 45 minutes, derek at appeared. aurora stayed in the room, too scared that if she took her eyes off of stiles, something bad would happen. and because she stayed in the room, she had missed out on the fact that scott had figured out that stiles was protecting them from himself. the hastings girl then felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up, goosebumps prickling her skin.

she felt her heart drop just as the lights began to flicker. they flickered for a few more seconds before it went dark completely. then the lights turned back on, everyone looking around in confusion.

"what was that?" melissa asked.

"it sounded like a peer surge." the doctor answered.

aurora turned back towards the window, seeing that stiles were no longer on the table. or in the room, for that matter. "where's stiles?"

this made max, noah, melissa, and the doctor turn to the window. aurora quickly grabbed her jacket and left the room, trying her hardest to find stiles or scott.

if only she had known that stiles was being possessed by the nogistune.
