6. Perfect-Failed
A day had past and Niran started to feel a bit bad for making Hanzo worry. He also didn't enjoy the silent treatment Hanzo was currently giving him. While in his room during the night, he was thinking of ways to make it up to Hanzo. He decided to come up with an idea to do so. By getting to know him more.
Despite him and Hanzo knowing each other for almost two weeks now, as well as being near each other for long periods of the day. He still didn't know much about him, neither did Hanzo about Niran. He was going to take this chance for both of them to talk about their lives and things the other should know. Niran came up with the conclusion that if Hanzo and himself talked things about and knew more about each other. Then they'd be more at ease with each other as guard and guarded.
It was around 11pm at night, Niran's curfew (set by Hanzo) was at 10pm. He knew he wasn't suppose to be awake but he wanted to make things right. He left his room and walked towards Hanzo's right next door. Niran knocked on the door and waited, hoping Hanzo wasn't asleep yet.
Fortunately, Hanzo wasn't asleep. He opened the door right as Niran was about to know again. It was clear that Hanzo was about to, or was trying to sleep. But was interrupted by Niran's knocking.
"Tell me, why are you awake?" Hanzo tiredly asked.
"Well.. I wanted to talk to you. Will you let me in?" Niran asked.
"If I let you talk with me will you go back to your room and sleep?" Hanzo asked and Niran nodded, he sighed and let him in the room. "What exactly did you want to talk to me about?"
Niran walked into Hanzo's bedroom and turned towards him once he heard the door close. "I thought maybe if we learned more about each other, we could understand each others perspectives." Niran explained.
"What exactly do you want to know?" Hanzo raised a brow.
"Maybe your past." Niran suggested, "You've briefly mentioned it before with hints, but I want to know more."
"I refuse."
"What?"
"I refuse to tell you of my past." Hanzo repeated himself, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm not going to tell you my past, that's final."
Niran felt like his plan had failed, but he wasn't going to give up. "Why don't I tell you about my past? You might not care but it's something."
Hanzo thought for a moment, "Go ahead, tell me of your upbringings."
"Right then," Niran sat on Hanzo's bed and signaled for him to sit beside him. Hanzo went along and sat beside Niran with some space between them.
"I guess I should start with my family. I have an older sister, and a younger brother. So yes I know what it's like having a younger brother, I found out recently Genji's your brother." Niran mentioned.
"Yes he is," Hanzo sighed. "Just continue on with your story."
"Yes, alright. My family is pretty wealthy, they were the kind of family who wanted their children to do what they wanted. I sort of rebelled not wanting to follow the path they made for me." Niran went on, "I spent a lot of my time in the garden when I could, I was interested in all the different types of plants. Now I'm sure you're wondering where Vishkar comes in."
Hanzo by this point was trying his best to stay awake, "I very much am, get on with it."
"My parents sent me to Vishkar due to my intelligence. It's also where I met a friend of mine, we were close but I feel like we might be falling apart now that I've left." Niran's face had express a hint of sadness but he quickly brushed it off. "During my breaks, I'd travel to different places. I started seeing a different side of the world. Away from the perfection my life was set to be. It's what motivated me to create my biolight, the very thing Vishkar wants to take from me."
"Is there a reason why they want to?" Hanzo asked.
"Hard light is restricted for Vishkar only, I wanted to give my light to the world to help the people. Vishkar didn't want that to happen, they wanted my biolight for themselves. That's when I decided to flee." Niran looked down, "I'm still trying to perfect my biolight, just enough to give life to the world and rid the negatives that exist."
"You do realize that's a very optimistic view, right?"
Niran smiled slightly and looked at Hanzo, "I know, but I still try."
"I find it odd you threw away a perfect life for a world view you can't confirm." Hanzo said.
"What?" Niran said with confusion.
"You had the perfect life. Despite myself also coming from a family of wealth, I threw it away. I had no choice to. But you had the choice to keep it all."
"A choice I'm proud of making. I'd rather not be stuck with an organization that'll use my biolight for profit." Niran frowned slightly.
"I disagree with your decision, you're too good at heart." Hanzo started, "You had it all yet you sacrificed it. That I admit to envy,"
Niran got up from the bed, standing up straight as he looked down at Hanzo. "I don't want you to envy my life. I don't know why you feel that way, Hanzo. And I don't know why, it may be because of your past. But please do not envy my seemingly "perfect" life."
Hanzo deeply exhaled, he hated the life he had. He resented his clan as the heir, but he didn't want to tell Niran that. Not yet, at least.
"Why don't you go back to your room, Niran." Hanzo said.
"Fine, I tried to get us closer but if your envy causes this. I don't know what to do then." Niran firmly said and left Hanzo's room. But he left worse that his plan had failed, he still wanted to get closer to Hanzo but wasn't sure how.
Niran went back to his room and went straight to his bed. Distancing from Hanzo was the last thing he wanted to do, although he felt like it was his "admiration" for him affecting his judgement.
Hanzo on the other hand, amongst his currently grogginess. Felt more envy for Niran despite his wishes. How can two people who both come from wealthy background have completely different lives? That's what Hanzo wanted to know.
