3. A Week's Progress

Since Niran's arrivial, Hanzo had been his bodyguard for a week now. The job appeared easier than he thought. Neither of them had left base so he spent most of his time being by Niran's side---or Niran was by his side. Hanzo took his job seriously and only let him out of his sight for certain things but he wasn't going to fail. His fear of failure kept creeping in ever since he almost pierced an arrow into Niran.

Hanzo tried getting rid of any thoughts as he was currently on his way to Morrison's office. He left Niran to Angela's care while he was with Morrison. He did trust Angela but hoped nothing would happen to Niran. His body guard isn't there and he needs to be able to be there at all times in case something happens.

He brushed off the thoughts and took a deep breath before knocking on the door of Morrison's office. He waited for Morrison to give the say he could come in and once he heard it, he walked in. "You asked for me?"

"I did, yes." Morrison looked up from his desk to look at Hanzo. "I just need a progress report, that's all. How has guarding Niran been?" He asked.

"He hasn't been troublesome... annoying at times, yes. But I can excuse that trait." He started, "He's been fine so far and no trouble has appeared."

"That's good, you already know how important this is. His biolight technology can be useful for us, and it's something we can't let Vishkar have." Morrison explained.

"I can't let my duty fail. You have given me this task and I must fulfill it up to explanations."

"That's the good part about you, Hanzo. Despite all that had happened, you're still up to be your very best."

"I'm assuming Genji must've told you what happened."

"He did."

"I assumed so... I'm not one to talk about my past." Hanzo's eyes trailed away from Morrison.

"We all struggle with redemption, mistakes in the past do ruin us. Sometimes they even influence how our lives are right now, the things we do and the decisions we make. I understand your struggles, Hanzo. So don't feel like you're alone on this." Morrison assured.

Hanzo stayed silent for a moment as he took in what he had said, attempting to come up with a response to it. But all he could do was disclose it, "I appreciate your words, Morrison. But the difference between us is that you try to be a better version of your past self. I try to be a better version in others eyes. I'm still the same man as I once was regardless of what I do."

"Hanzo, that's not what I-"

"Enough. I already gave you my progress report, I am no longer needed here." Hanzo bowed and walked out of his office. He let out a deep sigh once out.

Hanzo wasn't one to talk deeply into his past, just gave subtle hints it was something he wasn't proud of. Something that broke him to the core, yet he still manages to continue on forward. Searching for redemption that seems to only matter in the eyes of others, not his own.

Knowing this is the only task he has right now, he went to find Angela and Niran.

when Hanzo left Niran to Angela's care...

While Niran was with Angela, he kept asking questions about Overwatch and what she specifically does for them. His curiosity was like a child learning something for the first time. Angela didn't mind answering his questions, she was more than happy to help a new member.

"You know, we could both work together to help the injured." Niran suggested.

"That sounds great, myself and others could use the help." Angela smiles at him, "By the way, how has Hanzo been towards you?"

"Hanzo... he does seem to be annoyed by me at times, but I can't help my curiosity." He did a slight laugh.

"Hanzo hasn't complained about you thus far, I think you're doing alright."

"I hope so, I'd hate to have an attractive man dislike me." Niran said, unnoticing that he let his attraction towards Hanzo slip out.

Angela looked at him surprised, "You find Hanzo attractive?"

"O-oh, I didn't really mean it like that.. more of an, admiration for him. He seems honorable" He said.

"Niran, I won't judge your sexuality. We all find different people attractive." Angela explained.

"Are you attracted to anyone, Angela?" Niran asked.

"Well..." she blushed slightly, "Just one person, but I mustn't say. It'd be unprofessional."

"I won't pressure you into telling me, by the way, What's Hanzo like? There has to be a reason he was chosen to guard me."

"He was part of a clan of assassins, someone trained like him was a factor in Jack's decision." Angela said, "But if you want to know about Hanzo, it's best to ask him himself."

"I will once I have the chance."

Both heard footsteps and looked at the direction it was coming from, seeing Hanzo walk though the door towards them.

"You're both safe, that's good." He said as he approached them.

"Of course we are, you worry too much. I told you he'd be safe with me, Hanzo." Angela said

"I can't fail my duty as his guard. Even a moment could lead to failure."

"You really worry about me a lot, do you?" Niran asked, facing Hanzo.

"Why wouldn't I? It's my sole duty to guard and protect you."

"Nothing more?"

"... is there suppose to be more?" Hanzo's confusion expressed on his face.

"N-nevermind." Niran excused the question. "Will you now escort me to wherever you'd like?"

"I suppose.. let's go."

Hanzo began to walk out of the medical ward as Niran followed after. Angela now thinking about what will soon emerge between the two (if Niran could even get his feelings sorted out correctly).

"So, Hanzo. I heard you're a trained assassin, must be why you were chosen to guard me." Niran tried to spark up a conversation.

Hanzo stopped in his tracks and turned to look at him, "If it weren't me then it would've probably been Genji. I doubt it was the only reason I was chosen."

"You seem to want to know the full reason yourself, no?"

"Perhaps... but this gives me a reason to keep going."

"Maybe you could show me what you're made of? I also heard you have skills with the traditional bow."

Hanzo thought about it for a moment, "I suppose I could. It could also keep you at bay instead of attempting to run off by yourself."

"Someone always stops me from doing so, so technically I don't" He playfully smiles as Hanzo sighs, "Why don't you show me now if you can."

"I will, we'll go to the shooting range. Come." Hanzo commanded and began to head there, Niran following close behind.
