18. Truth? and a Broken Heart

After the kiss, Hanzo pretended like it never happened. Not even mentioning anything about it. The moment Niran was going to ask about it, Hanzo would quickly change the subject or avoid talking to him all together. The whole situation felt weird and Niran wanted answers, did Hanzo like him or not?

A day after the whole fiasco, Morrison had a stake out mission for Genji, Cassidy, and Hanzo. Other than the pre-planning of the mission, Hanzo had to tell Niran that he'll be gone for a while. Niran understood at first but later changed his mind, asking Hanzo if he could tag along. But Hanzo denied each time.

So how would Niran combat this? Just ask Jack Morrison himself if he could come along. He gave good reasons such as his healing with his biolight, and other things that may or may not have been useful. Though most of it wasn't necessary, Morrison agree regardless to him joining the stake out.

Once Hanzo found out about it, he wasn't entirely please but knew he had no say on the matter. He saw how excited Niran was going on his first Overwatch mission, he didn't want to take that excitement away from him. He felt a sense of joy seeing Niran. No matter how much he tried to avoid it, he liked Niran.

After 2 days, it was finally the day of the mission. The four men got together to head out to the location of the stake out. Hanzo declared himself as the leader of the mission due to the fact that he was the oldest of the group. The other three allowed him to be, not wanting to argue with him.

"Alright, I don't want any of you to mess this up." Hanzo spoke, looking at the younger three. "I'm sure you'll follow my orders and not disobey."

"Yes sir!" Niran smiled

Cassidy sighed. "Yes Hanzo..."

"Is it too late to change the leader?" Genji asked. "I nominate myself to be the new one." Once Genji suggested for a new leader, it caused a glare from his older brother.

"I think it's best not to, but maybe you can be second in command." Cassidy said, trying to avoid a brotherly quarrel.

"How about we just start the mission?" Niran added, the others nodding in agreement.

"It's best we split up. Niran will come with me, Cole and Genji you both go together. We'll take the left and you'll take the right. Understood?"

"You only wanna be paired with Niran cuz ya like him." Cole said to tease Hanzo

"I- I do not." He denied, "Focus on the mission, not personal issues. Niran let's go." Hanzo began heading left, Niran followed.

The other two watched them leave until they disappeared. "He likes him, right?" Cole turned to look at Genji.

"Probably,"

They both began heading east to stake out the right side.

During the stake out, Niran mostly followed Hanzo and did as told. It was his first mission and he didn't want to mess up, it was best to follow the man who'd been on numerous missions before.

He was pretty quiet for the most part, only speaking when Hanzo said something. It felt like a whole new Niran.

"Is something wrong?" Hanzo asked, glancing at Niran.

"What do you mean?"

"You've been quiet. That's not like you."

"Oh," Niran looked forward before looking back at Hanzo. "I'm just worried that I might mess up, that's all."

Hanzo understood but didn't reply. He too hated to mess up, it was understandable why Niran would feel that way. "Just do what you're doing right now, quiet and following me."

Niran nodded, "Will do."

Suddenly, the ear pieces turned on as a voice spoke;

"We haven't seen anythin' yet, have  you? Or were you both too busy makin' out to notice." Cole said, a small laugh from Genji could be heard.

Hanzo sighed, "We haven't seen anything either. I suggest you quit making jokes before you miss something."

"Yes, let's not get distracted." Niran said through the earpiece.

"Should we keep moving in?" Genji asked.

"As long as you both stay on the west side, do as you please. Just don't get caught." Hanzo told them before it went silent.

Niran waited a few seconds before speaking to Hanzo, "You seem annoyed by their jokes."

"They're both childish despite you being younger than them. I understand Genji acting like this towards me, not Cole." Hanzo remained his composure as he stayed focus on the task at hand.

"Okay, ignoring his comment. I do need to ask you something" Niran looked at Hanzo, this was finally a time where Hanzo couldn't ignore it. "Why did you kiss me that day?"

Hanzo hoped that wouldn't be the question he asked, he wasn't one to speak on his feelings. He did regret kissing Niran and leaving without saying another word, but he also didn't want to admit his feelings yet.

"Well, I-.." Hanzo was interrupted by the voices from the earpiece.

"Wait, you both actually kissed? I was only joking about that!" Cole chuckled from the other side.

"Wait, how did you both find out?" Niran asked.

"Ya left your earpiece on, rookie mistake." Cole clarified, so Niran had turned off his earpiece so it wouldn't pick up his voice.

"Hanzo, I didn't know you liked Niran." Genji said.

Hanzo hated the fact that it felt like he was being mocked, "Silence, both of you. I don't like him in that way, get that out of your heads."

Though no words were spoken, Niran did feel his heartbreaking. He thought Hanzo kissing him was a sign that he did have a chance, but if Hanzo was telling the truth. What did the kiss even mean to him?

Genji, who already knew of Niran's crush on Hanzo knew that his brother had messed up in the moment. But he wasn't going to rat him out for it, he looked at Cassidy to let him handle the situation.

"Hanzo, I don't think you should say things like that."

"Are you saying I shouldn't say the truth?"

Niran hesitantly turned his earpiece on to speak, "How about we just end this now? We should focus on the stake out instead of worrying about personal matters."

"Are you sure?" Genji asked with a hint of worry.

"I'm sure." Niran made sure to turn it off to avoid something like that to happen again.

As the stake out went on, both duos had managed to find some information that was needed. The four of them headed back to the Overwatch base, Hanzo went to take the information they had to Morrison while Cassidy went on his way to rest up. Genji went up to Niran to see how he was feeling after hearing Hanzo's words, but they both agreed on not talking about it to Hanzo.

They both went to find Angela, the only person Niran wanted to talk to at the moment. He was fine with Genji tagging along since he was aware of how he felt about Hanzo.

They found Angela as she just walked out of the medbay, she noticed the two boys and spoke noticing Niran's upset face.

"Niran, is something wrong?" She asked worriedly.

"Remember when I told you about Hanzo kissing me? He just said that he has no feelings for me whatsoever.." Niran frowned, the whole situation was affecting his optimism.

Angela looked at him surprised. "What? How could he say that?"

"He said it when Cole and I found out about it." Genji said.

"That still doesn't excuse it."

"You're right, it's not like Hanzo... although I do know he had kissed other women in the past despite having no feelings towards themm."

"You're not helping the situation, Genji." Angela turned to Niran, "Maybe it's best to forget about Hanzo for a moment, even if he is your bodyguard."

"I just.. don't know what to do, Angela. My happiness has gone all the way down to zero, it's probably in the ground now growing a sad tree."

Angela went closer to give him a hug, "How about we have the sad tree die and grow a happy tree?"

"How wouldn't that even work?" Niran hugged her back, he really needed the hug.

"We just have to think about it, but I'm sure you'll come up with something."

Niran let go of the hug, "I'll confess to him tomorrow." he declared.

Both Angela and Genji were surprised by it, "Why would you do that?" Genji asked him.

"It's stupid, but I'd rather just tell him my feelings and get rejected instead of just keeping it to myself. I want to hear from Hanzo himself that he has no feelings for me, not just a defensive claim." Niran smiled slightly as he explained.

"Well, whatever you do, just know that I'm here for you." Angela smiles, putting her hand on Niran's arm.

"Thank you, Angela. Oh, by the way. Are you two dating?" he glanced back and forth at Angela and Genji.

Both were taken off guard by his question, neither of them had confessed their feelings to each other. Only liked the other in secrecy, despite it being quite obvious.

"N-no, we aren't. At least, I don't think we are." Genji looked at Angela who was currently blushing, this was the moment he was glad to be a cyborg as his face was covered by his mask.

"We aren't. What brought you to that conclusion?" she asked Niran.

"Well, you both seem pretty close and I notice that you both have a bit of awkward moments where you don't know what to say to each other. Your body language also calls out that, you both like each other."

Both Angela and Genji had gotten redder, but Genji's wasn't noticeable due to his mask, how lucky.

"I've said my piece, have a good night." Niran left, leaving the two together.

Genji and Angela looked at each other, Angela wished she could see Genji's face to understand what his current expression was.

"Genji... do you like me?" Angela looked up at him as she asked.

Genji opened his mask to reveal his eyes, "I do, this wasn't how I wanted to tell you but Niran did rat us out." he smiles.

Angela returned the smile, "It's nice to know you feel the same way."

He walked closer to Angela as he removed his mask fully, "Will you let me?" Angela nodded as Genji cupped her face with his hands, leaning in to place his lips onto hers.
