15. A Real Scare
Niran wanted to get some things which needed him to leave the base, so he asked Hanzo to come with him. Hanzo agreeing immediately with the excuse that he has to come since he's his bodyguard.
What Niran wanted were some seeds for gardening, since he'd be staying the the Overwatch base for who knows how long. And he needed some sort of hobby on the side as he works on perfecting his biolight.
"Thanks for coming along, Hanzo."
"I have to come along, I am your bodyguard after all."
"It makes sense." They both walked out of the shop after Niran bought what he needed. "Maybe we should stop by somewhere and get something to eat or drink? It's been a while since I've had some freedom, I'd like to keep it that way for a while."
Hanzo thought about it for a moment, "I suppose, but we make it quick and you're paying."
Niran smiled, "Alright, alright. Maybe somewhere small like a cafe? A small chance for me to get spotted."
"Lead the way." Hanzo said.
Niran and Hanzo walked until they found a small cafe, they both went inside. The cafe was pretty empty, just an old lady in the corner and a single employee at the counter. Hanzo felt it was perfect, it isn't full and it's quiet. Just how he liked things to be. Niran also felt this was great since he wouldn't get noticed.
They both walked to the counter and the young women working there looked at them. With how boring the day was, she didn't expect two very attractive men to walk in.
"Excuse me, miss?" Niran said, breaking her out of her trance.
"Oh- I'm sorry. Welcome, what would you like to order?" she said, a slight blush from embarrassment.
"I'd like an iced latte, please." he looked over at Hanzo, "Do you want anything?"
"Just a cup of tea, nothing added." Hanzo said.
The woman put their orders in, "That'll be $10.47." she said. Niran paid for the drinks in cash, since Hanzo said it'd be safer to use. Using a card could be a lead on where to find him.
"By the way, are you two a couple?" The woman asked, catching both men off guard.
They looked at each other, feeling a bit awkward, but Niran spoke up first to clear up the misconception. "No actually, we're just friends."
"Oh okay, and I'll get started on your drinks right away."
"Thank you," Niran and Hanzo sat at a table.
"I'm glad you handled that situation flawlessly. How could she mistaken us as a couple?" Hanzo whispered, not wanting anyone to hear.
"Probably because of how we acted, we're also not really acting like friends." Niran whispered back.
"What do you mean?"
"We only see ourselves as acquaintances, your my bodyguard and you guard me. We don't have much of a friendship relationship going on. Maybe if it were you and Cassidy, it'd be different. Although you sort of treat him like an annoying younger brother, was Genji not enough?" He added a small joke at the end.
Hanzo frowned slightly, "I suppose, and do I? I enjoy his company but he can be annoying sometimes."
"Sort of, it's how I see it." Niran heard the women call their drinks, letting them know it was ready. "I'll get them." he gets up and walks towards the counter getting the drinks, he thanks the woman and brought it back. Setting down Hanzo's tea before sitting back down.
Hanzo picked up the cup and took a sip, "Hm, not bad."
"You say that about most things except sake." Niran took a sip of his latte.
"... Do you think others see us as a couple?" Hanzo asked.
"Maybe. I had Lena ask me the other day, actually. I told her we weren't."
"Good. I don't want anyone getting any wrong ideas." Hanzo took another sip of the tea. "I also want to talk about something with you, but I don't want to say it in English. What other languages do you know?" he asked.
"Thai, obviously. and only a few Hindi words my dearest friend taught me." He smiles.
"I do not know of those languages unfortunately."
"Then let's just start saying words neither of us understand." Niran said in Thai.
Hanzo blinked a few times, "You do know I don't understand, right?"
Niran just nodded. "I'm glad you don't understand so I can just say, I love you and hope we become a couple someday."
Hanzo sighed, "No idea what you've said but two can play that game." Hanzo spoke in Japanese.
"This is fun, really. Just speaking Thai and Japanese when the other has no clue, our conversation is secretive."
"Although it does make me wonder what you said."
"It's best not to know for now, Hanzo. Don't worry, no insults."
The two continued to talk until both have finished their drinks, they then left the small cafe. They walked in the direction they needed in order to head back to base. Hanzo kept his senses high, just in case something were to happen. This was the first time Niran had been out, he didn't want anything to happen. Nor that nightmare to become a reality.
He made sure Niran stayed close, and in case any shot were targeted at him. Hanzo would have enough time to take the hit. And already he sensed something wrong. He stopped in his tracks and made Niran stop too.
This action confused Niran, "Is something wrong, Hanzo?"
"Yes. I sense danger..."
"Shouldn't we start getting back as soon as possible then?"
"And lead them to our location? No." Hanzo got ready with his bow in hand, "We continue, but take a detour. That way it takes us longer." Niran nodded and followed.
"If this is a person sent by Vishkar, then I hope you're prepared for it."
"Why would I not be?" Hanzo asked, but Niran didn't have an answer for it.
They walked in a different direction for the detour led by Hanzo, but he stopped Niran from walking forward as a bullet lodged into the brick wall. Niran was shocked by how Hanzo was able to tell where exactly the bullet would go, and protect him.
Hanzo wasted no time firing an arrow in the direction the bullet came from. "Find somewhere to hide, but stay close.." Niran nodded and went to hide.
The nightmare Hanzo had a few days ago kept appearing in his mind, but this time he wasn't going to let any events of such happen. He was going to kill the person after them and he was going to make sure Niran didn't die. Nothing, from his nightmare will happen.
He quickly made his way to the rooftops to get a better view. It was a quiet area of town, which Hanzo chose to go on purpose. So it'd be a bit easier to find the person after Niran. He scanned the area and found another person on a rooftop, he began to make his way there. He was aware the person noticed they'd been spotted, but did he care? No. Hanzo was going to fulfill his duty, this was just the first battle.
Hanzo watched as the person tried making their way towards Niran's location, Hanzo was right on their tail. Not exactly, but still a wide distance. He'd send a few arrows, some barely missed and others did. Anything to slow them down.
Hanzo stopped in his tracks when the person did. The clear view of the hooded man with a gun in hand, his eyes narrowed as he remained focused. He picked up another arrow and had his arms in position to shoot if he tried anything. Although, Hanzo was suspicious as to why they stopped.
The man turned around to look at Hanzo. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to see their face due to them wearing a mask. That frustrated Hanzo but he just had to deal with it.
"Choose between life or death." Hanzo said. The man in front of him didn't say a word. "I assume those who sent you made sure you stayed silent." Hanzo took a few steps forward as he aimed his arrow towards the man.
They didn't prepare for an attack, but just stood there. It threw Hanzo off guard, the memory of his nightmare came into play. He hated the thought, the rage aroused inside of him. He shot the arrow that went through the mans chest. Hanzo didn't bother with another hit. What he worried about most was Niran at that moment.
He made his way back down and rushed to where Niran could've hid. He was hoping he was safe and that his attempts to help Niran in combat succeeded.
"Niran, the threat is gone." Hanzo called out, worryingly waiting for any response of him.
"Hanzo," a voice called his name, Hanzo turned around and saw him.
Hanzo sighed in relief, "Niran, I'm so glad you're safe. Nothing happened to you, right? There wasn't another person that was sent after you while I was distracted, right?"
He shook his head, "Not at all, in fact. I was watching you rather than hiding."
"What?"
"It's true, I wanted to see you, my bodyguard, in action. You probably have your suspicions as well, they surrendered awfully quick."
"I'm glad you think the same. There's no point in worrying about it, let's head back to base."
Niran smiled and went along with Hanzo back to the Overwatch base. Hoping nothing like this would happened again.
Hopefully...
