10. Distance
Angela had noticed Niran's strange behavior, mostly him being more down than usual. She tried to just wait it out and see if he'd vent to her or something. But seeing his upset face made her worry abit. Niran was always a ray of sunshine, he was always positive, always. It felt different not seeing him like that.
"Niran, is everything alright?" Angela asked him, her face showing concern.
"Everything's fine," Niran forced a smile.
"Clearly not, you seem down. Is something wrong?"
Niran sighed, "Hanzo.. has been a little distant towards me. I know that's obviously not a good thing since he's by bodyguard, but it might just be my fault he's like this." he explained.
"Oh dear, was there something you did?"
"Well... I got Genji to find me some Sake so I could bond with Hanzo. I guess we got drunk and shared a bed together, nothing happened. But Hanzo doesn't believe that."
Angela listened to what had happened, "Have you tried talking to him yet?"
"I did, but he just ignores me. He never does that." Niran frowned.
"Maybe I could try talking to him for you? He might listen to me." Angela suggested.
"That'd be great, oh, and tell me what he says. I don't want to be left in the dust."
"Of course, I'll report back to you."
"Thanks Angela." Niran smiled.
"No problem."

Later, Angela went to find Hanzo after hearing Niran's side of the case. With the current relation between the two of them, something like this could ruin the safety of a falsely wanted man. Morrison strictly chose Hanzo for this job, and Angela agreed with the decision. Hanzo also agreed to take in the job. Worst case scenario, Hanzo now regrets his decision.
She searched in the few places Hanzo frequents in the base, before finding him at the shooting range, of course he was here. She watched him shoot the targets before walking towards him. Hanzo heard her footsteps and stopped, turning his head to look over his shoulder before turning his body fully to face her.
"Angela, is there something you need?" He spoke first.
"Yes, actually. I need to speak with you about Niran." She told him.
Hanzo raised his eyebrows slightly yet still had that blank stare, "Did something happen to him?"
"Don't worry, he's safe. But he is worried that you might hate him now."
"I don't hate him, nor do I resent him in any way. Why does he think this?" Hanzo asked.
"He told me about the night you both spent together," She started. "He's worried you hate him now, and that you don't want to be his bodyguard anymore. You may not see it but Niran really respects you, Hanzo. If you act like this towards him, he might start to think differently about you."
Hanzo listened to what Angela had said, his hard-to-read face was what Angela tried to study. Figuring out what his response to what she said might be. And finally, Hanzo spoke;
"I already said what I said, I was only uncomfortable and expressed my frustrations. He shouldn't be upset by something he caused."
Angela frowned slightly, she already knew why Niran felt so down. But she also promised to not publicly state his crush on Hanzo. "I understand, Hanzo, but you mustn't forget your duty. You are Niran's bodyguard after all."
"Couldn't someone else take the job?" He said abruptly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Maybe I'm not meant to guard him."
"You know why you were chosen to guard him, Hanzo."
"Then maybe something should change," He walked past her towards the open door.
"Hanzo, don't act so recklessly. You can't just change your mind." She watched as Hanzo stopped, turning his head to look at her.
"You'll know my decision once I speak with Morrison." He turned his head forward and left the shooting range.
Angela stood there defeated, knowing she'd have to report this back to Niran. Genji shortly walked into the shooting range after, noticing Angela as he walked in.
"I saw Hanzo walk by, did something happen? He was making that one face he does when he's upset about something." Genji said.
Angela frowned, "He doesn't want to guard Niran anymore. I tried to get him to change his mind but... it didn't work out." She sighed.
"It's Hanzo, he'll probably think reasonably soon. What happened between the two anyways?"
"You are the cause of it Genji, you gave Niran Sake to give Hanzo. It's what happened that day that made Hanzo this way."
"Oh, well... Niran was begging me for it and I gave in." It was difficult to tell what Genji's face read due to his cyborg mask. Angela tried focusing in his voice on how he felt. "Are you guessing how my face looks right now?"
"Huh? How'd you know?" Angela asked.
"You made the face you make, you furrow your eyebrows and focus your eyes on me."
Angela got slightly embarrassed, "I do that? You're pretty observant Genji." She smiles
"If I'm going to be a cyborg ninja, I have to be." He smiled under his mask.
Oh, the beautiful tension between the two. Not in a negative way, but love was definitely in the air. Two people who were obviously in love with each other but too shy to tell the other their true feelings.
Just like another two we know. Things are just different between them than these other two.
