It's after a game... I was SLEEPING.

ANASTASIA SIGHED OUT a breath of release. The puff of air seeming to have been one that she held in unintentionally. She hadn't known that Ethan was going to post her, or that they were going to go public that night, but she wasn't complaining. In fact, that was the last thing she found herself doing as she set down her phone on the ground next to her, the small smile permanent on her lips as she couldn't seem to shake the giddiness she was feeling. A sense of tranquility was the only word that felt appropriate enough to describe everything she was experiencing.

It was the night after the last game of the semester. The boys were undoubtedly all sprawled out around the living room, showered and exhausted from the game that they had won 5-2, with a movie playing in the television that was mounted above the fireplace that they probably weren't even paying attention to. Dylan and Luca were probably rambling on about something that none of the other guys cared about, and beer bottles could probably be found in the trash can of the kitchen. Meanwhile the girls, for once, weren't joining the boys for one of their lazy movie nights. Instead, they found themselves at Sofia's apartment, which was just under a mile from campus.

She sat with her back against the couch, her legs stretched out in front of her, the plush carpet Sofia had placed in the living room soft against her bare legs. Because, no matter the temperature outside, Anastasia will always sleep in shorts. She quietly laughed to herself, both at the way Rutger, Luca, Dylan, and Luke were freaking out over her relationship status, and the bantering that was happening between Sofia and Lola in the bathroom as they washed their faces free from the makeup of the day they just had.

The apartment wasn't the biggest, but Sofia shockingly made herself some decent money, enough to buy a one bedroom one bathroom apartment all to herself. Plants decorated a few corners of the open floor plan, with framed photos of her friends and family plastered all over the walls in a tasteful way. Along with a couple of posters of inspirational quotes, and her favorite music artists. The color pallet fit Sofia perfectly, the hues of greens and blues made Anastasia feel instantly comfortable, with lilac scents floating in the air due to the candle Sofia lit when they walked in.

She was the first to wash her face and change into her sleep clothes, one of Ethan's sweatshirts and a pair of men's boxers that she bought herself. She found herself getting up from her comfortable position on the floor, and walking towards the bathroom where her friends just seemed to keep poking each other in the ribs with their elbows. She suppressed a giggle, as she leaned against the doorframe, seeing her reflection in the mirror behind the two girls. "Hey Sof you got anything to drink that's possibly alcoholic?" She scrunched her nose up playfully, as the eldest of the girls turned around, suds of her face wash covering her tanned skin. "Yeah there's some in the fridge, help yourself," "Will you get me a Mike's?" Lola added, as she started walking away from the duo, to which Stassie nodded in response.

The hardwood floors were cold against her bare feet as she padded her way from the bathroom to the kitchen, the pale white granite countertops glowing in the warm light that was provided by the lit candle, and the corner lamp in the living room. Before she could open the fridge to get their spiked lemonade, she took note of the pictures that were magnetized to the fridge. Some of her family and friends back home, but most were of her and Luke. The first time they took a drunken selfie their freshman year last year, him surprising her with flowers, and a few too many of him just sleeping on her chest, her fingers laced in his curls while she smiled in the corner of the photograph. The two of them were private about their relationship, which Anastasia completely understood, but she couldn't help but wonder the full story behind them. To her, they were probably the most mature couple she had ever seen; besides her parents, of course.

She knew the story of how her and Luke met, but Sofia was never one to talk about her relationship with the youngest Hughes, not even when it was just the girls; but neither her or Lola pushed, knowing just how important privacy was for their own relationships. A shuffle of slippers against the floor caught her attention, "Aren't we the cutest?" Sofia giggled, her fingers grabbing the matching heart pendant that laid between her collar bones, as she stared at the pictures along with Anastasia.

After Mark had gifted her the golden necklace at her birthday party, she never parted with it, the jewelry becoming a piece of her. Luke noticed how his girl gushed over the necklace, and how she didn't seem to stop talking about it when they went home from the club, Sofia's tipsy state only making her necklace-related rambled more jumbled and adorable. At least, to him he found it adorable. And so, he asked Mark where exactly he got it from, and gifted his girlfriend the same exact pendant, except pictures of them two together laid inside the locket. Now, all three girls had a matching one, with Mark already gifting one to Lola during her birthday in August. All three girls had matching necklaces and tattoos at this point, which made them feel more connected than ever.

Anastasia chuckled at her friend's words, nodding her head as she opened the fridge doors and grabbed each of them a Mike's. They made their way back to the living room, Lola having just been sitting down on the floor as well, her legs crossed underneath the woven throw blanket that was a light green. They each opened their drinks, taking a much deserved drink, feeling the fuzzy bubbles go down their throats and taking the edge off of the game day they had just endured. As well as the finals Anastasia had just taken. She didn't know if she passed her classes of the first semester yet but as of right now, that didn't matter. All that mattered was that she was done.

Lola sighed, as she placed her cannon the glass coffee table, before she clapped her hands together, "Now I know we didn't just come here to drink," she giggled softly, throwing her curly hair over her shoulder, leaning towards the girl whose knees were pushed against her chest. "Tell us everything, because what I do know is that's why you called us here." Anastasia couldn't help the blush that crept up on her cheeks, as she took another swig of her spiked drink. "Everything?" She quirked, biting the inside of her cheek, watching both Sofia and Lola nod eagerly, like they were a bunch of school girls, excited for their friend who got her first kiss.

That's what she loved about Sofia, even though she was just a year older, she was like their mother in a sense. But despite their obvious maturity differences, she liked that she could still act like a giddy teenager with them.

She went on to tell the story of what turned out to be the best gloomy Saturday in her entire life. How she had intended to only study that entire day, how agonizingly long the car ride was up to the church that one looked the city, how nervous both of them were, how he said he loved her, how she said she reciprocated his emotions, how gentle he was with her for her first time, despite it being in a fucking car that was parked in a church parking lot of all places. Sofia and Lola gushed over the story, their own cheeks reddening as Anastasia told them about how he couldn't stop saying 'I love you' while he was inside her. And while that might be too much information for some, for them, it wasn't enough. Over the course of the first semester, the trio of girls had grown disgustingly close to one another; sharing clothes, embarrassing stories, even the things that turned them on and the things that didn't. To each other, they were like the sisters that none of them had.

By the end of the story of remembrance, Anastasia's heart was pounding against her rib cage, just thinking about the moment her first love made her feel like the only girl on Earth. And apparently, so we're Lola and Sofia, considering when she glanced up from the carpet to her friends, tears were brining their eyes. They knew just how much pain she had gone through, how she couldn't even look at herself in the mirror properly without thinking that she had done something wrong to make him not like her anymore. So for them, as much as they wanted to kill Ethan just a week ago, they had to give it to him for how he made her feel, and for somewhat redeeming himself in their minds. Don't get them wrong, it was fun watching them have a battle filled with sexual tension, sadness, and hatred, but finally watching their girl get what she deserved, it was the best ending to their battle.

A couple hours later, Lola had finally pursued Sofia to share the depths of her relationship with the future Devils player. Exactly how they met, and how she always thought he was cute when she first saw him in her college algebra class they had with each other last year. She told them how sweet and loving he was, how she couldn't imagine being with anyone else; and of course, she had to mention how much he loved sleeping on her chest, since they had seen the photos of him doing so plastered on her fridge. Luke and Sofia were bound to find each other one way or another, like the butterflies the flew with the wind up north during the brink of autumn.

"Okay but how big is he?"

"Lola!" Anastasia exclaimed, giggling from bluntness of her friend's words, and because of the 3 Mike's Lemonade she had consumed. Sofia's eyes widened in surprise, joining in on Stassie's laughter. The curly headed girl shrugged, as if she hadn't done anything wrong. "What? Okay you don't have to say anything just tell me when to stop," she placed her hands together, slowly inching them apart from each other as she waited for Sofia to stop her. This only made Anastasia's laughter become more intense, as she saw the Sophomore girl actually going along with her suggestion. Lola's eyes widened when Sofia hummed out a sign for her to stop, "You're fucking joking," She said shocked, her jaw dropping in surprise.

Sofia shrugged, a smug look on her face as she rose the can up to her lips to take a drink. Anastasia snorted, surprised as well, "Who knew little Lukey was packing," "Well obviously he's not little, so you see this?" Lola exclaimed, raising her hands up to emphasize her words. The girls' laughter rang throughout Sofia's apartment, all of them just enjoying each other's company, knowing that they had formed a bond that would last an entire lifetime. Like a child's laughter, constant and strong, even in the worst of moments in life.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

no cliffhanger bc this chapter is happy! right?

a much deserved girls night that was so fucking fun to write, like holy shit i love these girls so much, (especially since they're based on my and my friends. i'm looking at you, solage.)
