real life
Kit Connor, the guy she dumped and offered no explanation to about it. The guy, who probably hates her guts for breaking his heart. He actually had the audacity to giggle. What the actual fuck was happening right now? Clementine was sitting on the ground while her ex laughed in front of her. He eventually stopped, while she remained flabbergasted on the floor. He cleared his throat, and offered her a hand. She took it, hesitantly and stood up, taking her time to brush off her dress and avoid eye contact.
"Well, I would say you literally fell for me but I don't think that's very appropriate." Kit flashed her a rueful smile and then strode passed her into the bathroom.
Clementine was about to cry. It was all too weird and too much at the same time. She sped walked back to the table and sat down, a little out of breath and her cheeks flushed red.
Louis wouldn't stop giving her this questioning look, she didn't want him to know how she was on the verge of a literal panic attack, but she wanted comfort at the same time. She really hated the consequences of her own actions and she just wanted to go home. Louis was clearly picking up on her agitation and tried to get her to look at him. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it. Clementine knew he was just trying to be a good boyfriend but right then, she didn't want to bother him. She wouldn't meet his eyes and just tried following the conversation.
At this point she had become more than acquaintances with the people at the table. Sebastian's friends were all from his new show and Clementine could not believe how nice they all were. She really wanted to watch their show now, despite Kit being in it.
After the bill was paid, they all collectively agreed to go get ice cream. As Clementine followed a bit behind everyone, Louis was talking to Will and Sebastian with everyone else. She just kind of listened in on the conversations, she didn't mind being left out.
Then Kit slowed down to match his pace with hers so that they were walking side by side.
"You've changed."
Clementine slowed down to a stop.
"What do you mean?"
Kit's smile dropped and the street lamp cast a shadow over his face like some sort of weird dramatic lighting.
"You weren't like this before, I don't remember you ever being so quiet. It's not like you."
Clementine sighed and started walking again, not waiting for him to catch up. It's not like Kit was being mean or rude towards her like she expected, but he was being kind and exactly the way she remembered him. And it was infuriating. It would be so much easier if he hated her, but apparently she was the only one who had changed.
"Maybe the person you remember isn't who I am anymore. Besides, it's been a long day. I'm still plenty talkative."
She sped up, not wanting to be left completely behind by the rest of the group.
"Look, I don't hate you, okay? And you don't have to tell me why you left, but I'll always be here. You can still talk to me you know? That hasn't changed."
That was the last straw for Clementine and she nearly broke down right then and there. She simply nodded curtly and practically ran to catch up with Louis and the rest.
She avoided him the rest of night, instead befriending rhea and kizzy. The three became fast friends and Clementine adored them. Honestly, she thought all of them in the group were so amazing. She did feel a bit like her and Louis were somehow intruding upon all their inside jokes. They really were flies on the wall witnessing an amazing cast and friendship.
When her and Louis were in line to order ice cream, she just could not choose between cotton candy or chocolate.
"Do you just want to share my mint chocolate chip with me? It is the superior flavor after all."
She smiled and shook her head, still looking between the flavors in front of her. She hadn't realized who was behind them in line until she heard his voice again.
"She doesn't like mint chocolate chip actually. It gives her heart burn."
Louis was a bit startled as Kit hadn't said a word to him that night.
"Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks mate... I guess."
He then gave her a questioning stare but she just looked back at the ice cream. Clementine decided she wanted cotton candy and told the woman behind the counter and then ordered for Louis as well as he fumbled for his wallet.
Once he paid and got their ice cream, she started walking to the table where the rest were at but she realized she forgot napkins. She turned around, but Kit was already standing there holding some out for her.
"I saw you forgot and remembered you always make a mess with ice cream so... yeah, here you go."
He smiled shyly and rubbed the back of his neck as she took them from him.
"Thanks Kit, I do always forget them!"
They walked over to the table where Louis and a few others were staring at the two's interaction oddly. She sat next to Louis and he put his arm around her and pulled her close, almost possessively.
She knew she was being weird and awkward because of Kit, but it wasn't her fault he still remembered all that stuff and was being so sweet and kind and familiar. And it was all just so frustrating.
Once the night ended and everyone had exchanged socials said their goodbyes, Louis and Clementine got an Uber to take them home.
"What was that all about at the ice cream shop with Kit?"
She wanted to pull away from her snuggling against his side at the question, but instead burrowed further into his side.
"It was nothing, Lou, really."
He hummed in a noncommittal way that told her he wouldn't press more if she didn't want him too and he just ruffled her hair.
She didn't like hiding it from him, but she didn't want to talk about Kit with him. She was selfish that way.
In fact, she wanted to keep her and Kit all to herself.
