clementine
Clementine had stayed up all night and she was exhausted. She'd done her routine and went on a quick run.
She had just showered and was getting ready to go meet Kit when Louis called her.
"Hello?"
"Good morning to you too, Cece!"
"Oh, morning Lou."
"Are you alright?"
"No, I'm all left."
"..."
"I'm so sorry, I didn't get any sleep last night and I feel like a zombie. Is there a reason you called?"
"What, I can't just call my lovely but exhausted girlfriend?"
"Louis..."
"Yes, okay I got it, straight to the point today. No flirting. Anyways, are you doing anything today?"
"Well I was planning on going to get some much needed coffee and then I have a dinner with my agent."
"Oh perfect! I'll join you for coffee then!"
"Oh umm... I don't know Louis, I'm kind of not feeling it. Is it okay if I go by myself?"
"Oh. Okay. Is something going on? Did I do something?"
"No, no! I was just going to pop in for a quick bite and a drink, I'm too tired for much else honestly."
"Oh alright. I'm sorry for overreacting. Yesterday kind of put me off."
"What do you mean? Meeting Sebastian? We're just friends. No need to worry!"
"No! He was great, there was just that Kit guy who seemed to know you and I just...
I don't know, I just wanted to spend time with you today."
"Kit is just an old acquaintance, nothing else."
"I know you're lying Clementine. I've asked around."
"What?"
"I wanted to talk to you in person about this, but why would you lie to me? You guys have a history and I can tell. Why the fuck are you lying to me? I care about us Clementine. Do you?"
"I can't excuse me lying, but I just didn't want to revisit everything about him with you. I care about you too. And I really like you, this is all just so much, all at once and I just didn't know what to do!"
"...."
"Are we alright? Because I was planning on leaving soon..."
"Fine. Go get coffee or whatever, just be honest with me. Do you still love him?"
"I've got to go Louis, we'll talk later, okay?"
"Clementine? JUST ANSWER ME GOD DAMN-"
Clementine had disconnected the call.
Oh my god, she disconnected the call.
Why had she done that?
This pattern of running away from things because she was scared was getting out of hand. She was ruining everything.
And she was almost late to meet Kit.
She'd hurriedly gotten ready, spending too much time on what to wear with her overalls and then walked to the cafe, but Sunshine Cafe and Bakery was almost unrecognizable.
It used to be her favorite little hole in the wall coffee shop, but when she got there it was swamped.
She missed the bright orange walls and quiet atmosphere, but now it was filled with people with laptops and there was a long line at the register, where an employee and a businessman were arguing about his drink.
She'd taken off her headphones, but she wished she'd kept them on.
It was overwhelmingly different and she hated it.
But in the middle of it all, like a beacon, sat Kit. He was on his phone, in the spot they used to sit.
