Caroline had been Hazel's saving grace these last few days. Hazel is still keeping her distance from Elena for now; she can see that her sister is trying and has indeed apologised for what happened, but she's still really hurt about the whole thing and how Stefan was acting; and Caroline was all the more eager to spend some more time with her best friend. Hazel knows there's something going on between her and Bonnie since Caroline has been alluding to it all week, but refused to give any details which was strange for her; since Caroline usually loves to share any information always. The only thing Caroline has given her was insulting jabs.
"Have you talked to Bonnie yet?" Hazel asks her best friend as they walked towards the school. She knows they aren't speaking, and she wants to know if that has changed.
"No, I'm mad at her. She needs to make the first move." Caroline scowls.
Hazel only raises an eyebrow, "Why can't you be the bigger person?"
Caroline scoffs, "Because it's impossible in her presence."
"Why are you so pissed at her anyway?" Hazel asks, "You've been crabby about it all week. What's going on?"
"She's a thief, that's why." Caroline finally tells her and she gives her a deadpanned look, "I gave her my necklace, and she refuses to give it back. It's a matter of principle."
Hazel let out a sigh when she realised she wasn't getting anywhere with it for now, "Alright. Well, I tried. I'm officially out of it."
"Good. Your turn." Caroline decides, "Where's Stefan? And have you talked to him or Elena?"
"He's avoiding me, and I'm avoiding her." Hazel answers vaguely. She hasn't spoken to Stefan since their fight at the Grill, and she's been keeping her distance from Elena after she gave her apology. She's working on forgiving her, but, she just needs time to process.
"Why?" Caroline asks.
Hazel hesitates as she tries to think of what she can say, and she really does wish she could tell her right then and there, because she knows Caroline wouldn't judge her for it; and would actually give her really sound advice, "It's complicated." Was all she could come up with, thanking the lord that the bells rings, giving Hazel an excuse to leave, "I'll see you later."
"Bye." Caroline looks at her strangely as Hazel scurries off to class.
Hazel practically ran away from Caroline at that point and heads to her history class, where she sees that there's a spot available next to Elena or there was another spot next to Bonnie on the other side of her where Stefan would normally sit; but was vacant instead, and sits down on the other side of Bonnie, so she would be in between the twins. She notices Elena's disappointment instantly, but she's more focused on Bonnie's frazzled look.
The new teacher then walks into the classroom, "Good morning, everyone. Alrighty." He greets them as he writes his name on the chalkboard.
Hazel catches Bonnie's eyes and mouths, "Are you okay?" to Bonnie. Bonnie only shrugs in return.
The teacher then turns around to face the class, "Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue." He says with a smile, "Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now, the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather that I will never be able to thank enough." He jokes sarcastically, "You'll probably want to pronounce 'Alric' but, it's 'Alaric', okay? So, you can call me Ric. I'm your new history teacher."
After class, Bonnie pulled the twins aside to explain what has been going on with her, and why she's been so frazzled as of lately, and it all had to do with her dreams. They walked to the furthest wooden picnic table that was away from everyone else so they could talk during lunch, "And then, I ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods."
Elena looks intrigued as she asks, "And you always see your ancestor, Emily?"
Bonnie nods, "Do you believe in ghosts?" She asks them.
Hazel licks her lips, "I mean, two weeks ago I'd say no, but, now..."
"I think I'm being haunted." Bonnie admits, her shoulders slumping and they can see her fear in her eyes clear as day.
"I don't get it. Why Emily?" Elena asks.
"Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and that this medallion was hers." Bonnie explains as she gestures to the necklace that was draped across her neck, "It's a witch's talisman."
Hazel raises an eyebrow and points at the necklace, "And it all started when you got the necklace?"
Bonnie nods, "I think she's using it to communicate with me."
"Okay, what does Grams say about it?" Hazel asks. If anyone would know what was going on with the necklace and about Emily, it would be Grams.
"I can't call her. She's gonna tell me to embrace it." Bonnie says, "I don't want to embrace it, I want it to stop." Bonnie then sighs and shakes her head, gathering her things to leave, "I gotta get to class. I'll see you guys later."
Elena nods and gets her things also as they share the next class and as Hazel was getting up, she saw Stefan not too far away, sitting at another picnic table and walks over to join him.
"Hi." He says to her as she gets close to him.
"You weren't in class." She observes stiffly. She was worried because she feared the worst—that he had actually killed Damon in her absence. She wanted to call and text him, but after he had told her that she should leave him alone, she respected his wishes.
"Yeah, I should've called." He understands, placing his hands into his jacket pockets, "But, what I wanna say shouldn't be said over the phone."
"I mean, a simple 'I didn't kill my brother' text would have sufficed." Hazel retorts, "I've been worried about you."
"I didn't kill my brother, as much as he deserved it. He has you to thank you for that." Stefan tells her and she wants to let out a sigh of relief but she knows that isn't what he came to tell her.
Hazel rocks on her feet, "So, what did you wanna tell me?"
"I won't be coming to school anymore." He confessed and Hazel feels her chest tighten, "I'm gonna back off and keep my distance. It's the right thing to do."
There's an underlying message in what he just said, "Back off from school? Or from me?" She asks and there's an awkward silence that blankets them, giving her the answer she asked for. He's backing off from her. She wants to cry as she replies, "Thank you for telling me."
"It's better this way." Stefan insists.
It doesn't feel better, however, "Yep. I got it." She snips.
"You're angry. That's good." Stefan observes, "It'll be easier if you hate me." He says before walking away, leaving Hazel standing there with tears brimming in her eyes, yet again.
After school, Bonnie was taking Hazel and Elena home since Caroline had some study she wanted to get done, and couldn't. She's still shaken up after her run in with Damon, who was continuing to demand back the necklace from her ancestor, what she was warned not to do.
"He's bad news. He really scared me." Bonnie says.
"You need to stay as far away from Damon as possible." Elena warns her best friend sternly from the passenger seat.
"I'm trying!" Bonnie explains, "He just keeps... showing up." She says with a scoff.
"I don't want you to be alone. You're sleeping at our place tonight, we can make a whole night out of it." Elena suggested, looking up in the rearview mirror for Hazel's approval, to which she nods because she agrees with Elena's idea. Bonnie shouldn't be alone. Bonnie looked down at her necklace and touched it before her eyes narrowed and she pulls over to the side of the road and gets out of the car, "Whoa! Where are you going?"
Bonnie rips off the necklace and throws it into a field before returning to the car. Hazel sends her a strange look, "Are you okay?"
Bonnie lets out an exhale, "Now I am." She answers, turning to look at the twins, "All my problems were because of that thing. I can't believe I didn't do that sooner."
"What's your Grams gonna say?" Elena asks.
"Grams isn't the one being haunted by a hundred and fifty-year-old ghost, is she?" Bonnie retorts.
Hazel purses her lips and sighs. She can't argue with that, "Okay, then."
Later that night, Elena answers the door to find Stefan on her porch, "Hey. Thanks for coming. I wouldn't have called if it wasn't important." She tells him, looking back to see Bonnie and Hazel sending him an unhappy glance before walking away.
"I know that." Stefan replies awkwardly, especially since he practically broke up with her sister a few hours ago. Stefan didn't expect to hear from them again.
Elena steps onto the porch and pulls the door closed behind her to tell him about what happened, "Damon threatened Bonnie, Stefan." She says while pacing around.
"What would Damon want with Bonnie?" Stefan asks.
"She has this necklace—Caroline got it from Damon, and she gave it to Bonnie, and now Damon wants it back." Elena explains, "He's tormenting her."
"Over a necklace?" Stefan can't believe what he's hearing, but, he knows his brother is unhinged enough to know that it could be a possibility that this all could be over just a necklace.
"It's not just any necklace. It has to do with Bonnie's heritage. It belonged to one of her ancestors who lived here during the Civil War..." Elena then realises we're alive during that time and she looks at him, "When you and Damon lived here."
Stefan shifts uncomfortably as he realises who she's talking about, "Her name was Emily." He says, crossing his arms, "She was Katherine's handmaiden, and a witch."
Elena's eyes widen in surprise, "You know? About Bonnie?"
Stefan nodded, "The first night that you invited me over for dinner, I made the connection."
Elena then sighs, "And now Damon knows, and for some reason, he wants that necklace."
"What does it look like?"
"It's, um, an antique iron setting with a—"
"—With an amber crystal. I know it." Stefan interrupts, "It belonged to Katherine. Emily gave it to her, which means that..."
Elena takes a step forward towards him when he trails off, "What?"
Stefan looked confused because he isn't sure where he's going with it, "I don't know, but, I'm gonna find it out. Let me talk to Damon." He says, turning to walk away.
"Will he tell you?" She asks.
"I'll get it out of him." Stefan simply says before disappearing, just in time to see Caroline's car pulling up in the driveway.
Tension was thick in the Gilbert home as Bonnie, Caroline, Hazel and Elena were preparing dinner. Caroline was still refusing to speak to Bonnie over the whole necklace situation, and Hazel was barely saying a few words to Elena as it is. As Caroline was taking the takeout containers out of the brown paper bag so they could eat, she spots Hazel's eyes that were giving her a look.
Caroline turns to Bonnie, who was lingering around the kitchen island, not saying anything and sighs, "I'm sorry." Caroline suddenly says, "There. I said it. If you want the ugly-ass necklace, keep it. It's yours."
Bonnie bites her lip and a guilty look covers her features, "Will you hate me if I tell you I threw it away?"
Hazel and Elena wince knowing that was the worst possible thing that Bonnie could've said, and they were right because annoyance fills Caroline immediately as she spits out, "You threw it away?"
"I know it sounds crazy, but the necklace was giving me nightmares." Bonnie explains, "I had to get rid of it."
"You could have just given it back to me." Caroline pointed out.
"Why? So you could give it back to Damon?" Elena scoffs.
Hazel groans at how messy this went so quickly, "Screw Damon. Are we doing manicures or what?" She asks. This was the whole point about the sleepover; it was to hang out with friends, be normal teenagers without the whole vampire and witch crap, and so Hazel can get over her kind-of-breakup with Stefan with manicures and takeout.
"Who has their kit?" Caroline asks, nodding in agreement.
"Mine's in my bag." Bonnie tells the blonde, who goes to her bad instantly to grab the kit.
As Caroline rifles through Bonnie's purse that was on the dining table for the manicure kit, she asks, "So, Haze... how long do you think this fight with Stefan's gonna last? Is it... like a permanent thing?"
Hazel deflates slightly when she sees the pitied looks from her sister and friends, "I don't know, Care. He says it is, but, he keeps showing up everywhere. He can't make his mind up." She complains frustratedly. She shouldn't be surprised since Stefan has been hot and cold with her since day one.
Caroline then lets out an angry scoff, "Why are you such a little liar, Bonnie?" She snaps.
"What?" Bonnie asks.
"Caroline!" Elena gasps in astonishment.
"What's going on?" Hazel asks and turns to see Caroline holding up the crystal necklace, and they all gape at Caroline in shock.
Bonnie pales as Caroline slams it down on the kitchen bench, "I'm not lying to you, Caroline. I swear."
"It's true. We watched her throw it into a field!" Hazel says.
"Then explain it." Caroline says in frustration.
Bonnie looks at the twins, "Emily?" She suggests.
"Who's Emily?" Caroline asks in confusion.
"The ghost." Bonnie answers.
"Oh, the ghost has a name now?" Caroline asks in a mocking tone.
Elena holds up a hand to stop her, "Caroline, please."
Hazel turns to her sister, "She doesn't know what's going on, you can't blame her for not believing that there's a ghost all of a sudden."
"I wonder why she won't leave me alone." Bonnie says.
"What is going on? Why am I not a part of this conversation?" Caroline asks snappily, "You guys do this to me all the time."
"That's not true." Elena says.
"Yes, it is." Hazel disputes.
"Yeah, it is." Bonnie agrees with Hazel, but, not in the way they would think as she turns to Caroline to argue, "I can't talk to you. You don't listen."
"That's not true!"
"I'm a witch." Bonnie then confesses.
"And don't we all know it?" Caroline retorts.
"See? That's what I'm talking about!" Bonnie exclaims, "I'm trying to tell you something. You don't even hear it."
Bonnie then walks off and Caroline turns to the twins in disbelief, "I listen. When do I not listen?"
Elena turns to Hazel, who sighs, "I got this." She says and turns to Caroline, "Care... Bonnie is being serious with what she's saying and she needs you to be there for her. She needs the kind heart we all know you have, and I need you to go make up with her." The older Gilbert says.
The two stare each other down before Caroline sighs and relents, "Fine. But, you're making up with Elena, too." She says, pointing to Elena whose eyebrows raise at the fact that Caroline suggested that.
Hazel looks at her twin, and she thinks about the pros and cons of Caroline's request, and she realises if she wants peace and happiness to surround her, she has to also be the bigger person. It's hypocritical of her to ask that of Caroline when she can't even do the same to her twin sister, "Okay." She agrees and Caroline smiles triumphantly and walks into the other room where Bonnie was, leaving the Gilbert twins by themselves in the kitchen.
"I thought we were okay..." Elena whispers sadly.
"We weren't." Hazel shakes her head as she sits down at one of the seats, "It's partially my fault because I was placing the blame on you for the way Stefan has been treating me and that's not fair to you because it's got nothing to do with you." She admits. Elena only called her to help Stefan, but Hazel was so hurt by what Stefan did and said, she blamed Elena because she basically dragged her to getting dumped. It's not Elena's fault she got dumped, it's Stefan's, "I was still really upset about the whole Jeremy thing, and I guess after what happened with Stefan and Lexi, I put that onto you and I'm sorry about that."
"No, you don't need to apologise." Elena shakes her head in disagreement because Hazel doesn't need to apologise when it's Elena that did the damage, "I shouldn't have made a decision about Jeremy without talking to you about it first. I just wanted him to be okay again." She says and Hazel nods in understanding. They were arguing the same point, but their ideas were just different on how they would reach the same outcome, "And Stefan... he's stupid if he doesn't want to be with you." She says and Hazel sends her an appreciative smile, "You are the best girl and he should be kicking himself for letting someone like you go."
Elena realises that she was being malicious to her sister. It wasn't intentional. She really does love her sister and wants to see her happy; it's all just gotten so complicated with this whole vampire thing that she didn't see that her actions were hurting her. She was truly just trying to protect Jeremy's already fragile state when she asked to make him forget about Vicki—she knows it's wrong to take away someone's choices, but she did it out of love. And calling Hazel to try and talk some sense into Stefan was the worst idea she could've ever had because their relationship was already on the rocks, and now it was completely broken.
Elena should've tried to handle it herself, but she doesn't think she has enough of a relationship with Stefan to tell him not to try and kill his brother for killing his best friend. Elena is just glad that for now, they're at least talking.
"Thanks, Elena." Hazel whispers sadly.
"I love you, bunny." Elena says as she walks over to her sister and pulls her into a hug, "And I'm sorry again about all of this."
"I love you, too." Hazel smiles as she welcomes the hug. She hates fighting with Elena and it was taking a toll on her that she didn't even realise was there, "And I'm sorry as well."
Meanwhile, Caroline and Bonnie were talking in a room by themselves. Bonnie was sitting on the couch starting into space sadly when Caroline approaches her cautiously. She knows she screwed up by being harsh, and she hurt her best friend's feelings as a result of it, "Bonnie." She says, getting her attention and sighing as she continues, "Look, it's just not me. I don't believe in the... woo woo." She says, making a mystical sound and waving her hands around.
Bonnie only looks away and Caroline sighs again, "But, if you do, then... okay. I'm in. That's all it takes for me to jump on board, because I consider you to be my best friend. And I'm saying this, knowing that Elena and Hazel are in the kitchen listening to my every word." She says and Bonnie smiles. Caroline takes the opportunity to sit down beside her, "Look, I didn't know how real this was for you, but, I'm listening now. Okay?" She says, offering her the crystal as a sign of a peace offering, to which Bonnie takes it back.
"Okay." Bonnie says back with a smile.
"You can come in now. We're done." Caroline calls out into the other room and the twins enter shyly, smiling themselves as everyone has made up. The twins sit down with them and Caroline exhales as she looks at everyone, "There is just way too much drama in this room. So, what do you guys wanna do?" She asks and they all shrug. Caroline then gasps and sits up, "I have an idea. Why don't we have a séance?"
"A séance?" Hazel laughs, "Really?"
Caroline nods eagerly as Bonnie nervously said, "I don't think that's a good idea."
"Come on." Caroline whines as she gets up from the couch, "Let's summon some spirits. This Emily chick has some serious explaining to do." She says, putting her hands on her hips and the girls all look at each other, wondering if they should do it.
Hazel couldn't believe they were doing this. The girls all sat in a circle in Elena's bedroom to do the séance, surrounding a few lit candles the girls had to make it legit while they held hands to create the circle.
"Are we really doing this?" Hazel asks.
"What are we doing?" Bonnie asks.
"I don't know." Elena answers.
Caroline shushes them, "Be quiet and concentrate. Okay, close your eyes." She says and they all follow her orders, "Now, take a deep breath. Bonnie, call to her."
"Emily." Bonnie starts, "You there?"
All of them open their eyes to send Bonnie a look while Hazel stifles a giggle at how ridiculous that was, "Really?" Caroline deadpanned, "'Emily, you there?'" She mocks, "That's all you got? Come on."
"Fine, jeez." Bonnie groans and they all close their eyes again as Bonnie does it more seriously, "Emily. I call on you. I know you have a message. I'm here to listen."
The four of them had their eyes closed before they felt the heat from the candles grow hotter and they jumped when the candles immediately flare stronger, "Did that just—" Elena can't wrap her head around it.
"Yeah, that just happened." Caroline confirmed quickly, not taking her eyes off of the candles when she suddenly got a chill and she crossed her arms to warm herself up.
"It's just the air conditioning." Bonnie disputes.
"That was way too coincidental for it to just be the air conditioning." Hazel disagrees when the flames burn brighter again and they jump, "Ask her to show you a sign."
Bonnie shakes her head. She doesn't want to do it, "Ask her." Caroline insists, and Bonnie shakes her head again. Caroline then looks at the candles, "Emily, if you're among us, show us another sign."
They wait a moment, but nothing happens, "See? It's not working." She says and the girls deflate as they come to realise that she must be right. Suddenly, the windows burst open, scaring all of them, "I can't. I'm done." Bonnie says as she rips the necklace off and throws it on the ground next to the candles, which blow out, scaring her more, "Get the light! Please, get the light!"
Hazel scrambles for the light, "Hold on. I got it!" She says and turns on the light.
The girls sigh in relief that it was no longer dark and the seance was over before Bonnie looks down and gasps, "You guys, the necklace. It's gone."
The girls gasp as they realise it is too and quickly all look around the room to find it in case it got kicked away during the commotion. Elena turns to Caroline with a sigh, "Okay, fun's over, Caroline. You made a point, and I get it. Now, give it back."
"What? Well, I didn't take it." Caroline says.
"She was squeezing my hand the whole time, it couldn't have been her." Hazel says and she pales when she sees something move behind Caroline in the bathroom.
"What? What happened?" Elena asks, seeing her fear and looking towards the bathroom.
"I don't know. Probably nothing." Hazel tries to not freak herself out because it was probably Jeremy, "Jeremy, are you home?" She asks as she walks into the hall to check for her brother but doesn't get a reply.
Bonnie sees the crystal on the floor in the bathroom. She goes in to get it, "Guys..." She says as she approaches it, not knowing how it got into the bathroom when suddenly the door slams shut as soon as she's inside the room. The girls instantly run to the door as Bonnie screams, "Oh, my God! You guys open the door! Help me!"
Caroline, Hazel and Elena pound on the door as Bonnie screams for help, "Bonnie! Bonnie, what's going on? Bonnie!" Elena yells.
"What's going on?" Caroline yells.
"Try the other door!" Hazel yells to Bonnie, "I'll check the hallway." She tells the girls while she runs into the hallway, leaving the other two to continue trying to get the original door open in the meantime.
Hazel runs to the other hallway and the lights begin to flicker as Hazel pounds on door while Bonnie keeps screaming, "Bonnie! Open the door!"
The door doesn't open and Hazel can only hear screaming so she runs back to her room to try there again. Suddenly, the screaming stops and the door opens, the lights retuning back to normal to reveal Bonnie standing in the bathroom with her head in her hands, breathing heavily.
The girls enter the room to check if someone was there, but don't see anyone, "What happened? Are you okay?" Elena asks.
Bonnie then removes her hands after a few moments, "I'm fine."
Confusion spreads across the twins' faces because her screams sounded like true terror whereas Caroline scoffs and shakes her head, "Unbelievable. You were totally faking it."
"Caroline, come on." Elena starts.
Caroline narrows her eyes on Bonnie, "No! You scared the hell out of me." She says, storming off.
Elena looks at Bonnie, "Bonnie?"
"I'm fine." Bonnie insists and begins to walk out of the bathroom, "Everything's fine."
The girls run after Bonnie, who was rushing through the hallway, "I can't believe I fell for it." Caroline scoffs at herself.
Hazel looks at Bonnie with concern and confusion because she can't understand how she could scream like that and then be totally fine the next second, "Are you okay?"
"I must go." Bonnie says and Hazel makes a face at the language. Since when did Bonnie get so proper?
"She's leaving. I'm leaving." Caroline says as she gets her things.
"You guys can't leave." Elena shakes her head. She doesn't want to be alone after everything that just happened.
"Oh, I can." Caroline argues, "I've had enough freaky fake witch stuff for one night."
"Thank you for having me. I'll take it from here." Bonnie says and heads towards the staircase.
Hazel follows after her, "Where are you going?" She asks.
"Back to where it all began." Bonnie answers as she then rushes down the staircase.
"Bonnie?" Elena calls out to her, hoping that she'll stop but doesn't, "Bonnie!"
Hazel then realises and her eyes widen, "Oh, my God." She gasps, "Emily!"
Emily stops as she reaches the front door and looks at the girls, "I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed." Emily leaves and the girls chase her down the stairs.
She tries to open the door, but Emily has spelled it shut, "What's happening?" Caroline asks as she sees them struggle to open the door.
"I don't know. The door, it's not—" The door finally opens, and Jeremy walks in.
The girls scream, and Jeremy is really confused as to why they're screaming, "What the hell?"
Caroline was panting as she says, "I'm outta here." She says and leaves the house.
Elena runs her hand through her hair before she grabs the phone and frantically calls Stefan, "What's wrong?" He asks, because again, she'd only call if it was important.
"It's Bonnie." She tells him, "Emily is possessing her. She said something."
"What did she say?"
"She said 'I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed'. And then she just left." Elena explained.
"Where do you think she went?"
"I don't know." Elena answers with a sigh as she looked at Hazel, who was thinking.
Hazel then grabs the phone as she remembers what Bonnie had told them, "It has to be Fell's church, by the old cemetery—that's where she took Bonnie in her dreams." She tells him, "We have to help her, Stefan."
"Just stay there. I'm gonna go find her." Stefan says and hangs up the phone.
Hazel and Elena arrive at the church ruins to find a pentagram of fire around Bonnie, the flames creating a wall between her and Stefan, Damon, Hazel and Elena, "Bonnie!" Elena yells, getting Stefan's attention to run to them and stop them from getting any closer.
Emily throws the necklace that was in her hand up in the air as Damon yells out, and it explodes above them. Sparks from the magic fall around them as Damon glares angrily at Emily, and once the spell was complete and the crystal was destroyed, Emily departs from Bonnie's body.
The flames die out and Bonnie finally reawakens, and looks around in horror, having no idea what had just occurred, but, doesn't get any time to ask questions as Damon is furious, and since his deal with Emily is off, he bites Bonnie and feeds on her.
Elena and Hazel yell in fear, and Stefan rushes over to pull Damon off of her. Hazel and Elena run to Bonnie side as Stefan kneels next to her and checks her pulse, "She's alive, but barely." He tells them and they sigh in relief that she's alive, wondering how long she'll last before they could take her to the hospital. Stefan then says, "I can save her."
He bites into his wrist and dribbles his blood into Bonnie's mouth while Elena glares at Damon for what he did. Hazel watches in shock as her wound closes up right before her eyes, "Her neck... it's healing."
Damon walks away and Stefan follows after him, while the twins stayed with Bonnie until she was out of shock. Stefan finds Damon sitting in the woods near the church ruins, "Katherine never compelled me." Damon admits to his brother, "I knew everything. Every step of the way. It was real for me." He says before sadly turning away, "I'll leave now."
Meanwhile, Bonnie, Hazel and Elena were standing by the car, "I don't understand, what happened to me?" Bonnie whispers with tears streaming down her face. She's healed, but still in pain and still very scared, "He attacked me, and his face was like..."
Bonnie can't even finish saying it because she doesn't understand how to describe it, "How do you feel? Are you okay?"
Bonnie hand goes instinctively to her neck and Hazel can relate to how she feels after how Vicki attacked her, "I'm fine. It's just this blood. I don't..." Stefan approaches the girls, and Bonnie immediately becomes frightened and weary of him.
"I'm not gonna hurt you." Stefan tells the witch.
Bonnie looks at the twins, "What's going on?"
Elena grabs Bonnie's arms, "We'll explain everything, Bonnie. Okay? Let's just get out of here." She suggests but Bonnie doesn't move, she just continues to stare at Stefan, "Bonnie. Bonnie, look at me. Trust me. He's not going to hurt you. Come on. Come on." She leads Bonnie to her car.
Hazel turns to talk to Stefan privately. She nervously tucks a piece of hair behind her ear, "Is she in danger of becoming...?"
"No, she has to die with my blood in her system." Stefan explains and Hazel nods understandingly, "So, keep an eye on her tonight and make sure that nothing happens, and once it leaves her system, she'll be fine."
Hazel nods again before exhaling, "I'm gonna tell her the truth. About everything."
"You sure?"
"We can trust her." Hazel assures, "But, she needs to know. We can't live in secret."
"I know that. You shouldn't have to." Stefan replies.
"You saved her life... thank you." Hazel then says and Stefan smiles. She then looks at him sadly, "Do you really have to leave?" She asks, "Because if it's because of me that you're leaving, you don't have to push me away. I can do this. I know you think you're protecting me, but..."
"I have to leave, Hazel." Stefan tells her and she looks down at her feet, her hair falling around her face as tears brim her eyes again, "Too many people have died. Too much has happened."
"Please don't go."
"I have to." Stefan holds onto her hand to press a kiss to it while she cries, "Goodbye, Hazel."
