---.ᴥ︎ᴥ︎ᴥ︎ᴥ︎.---
The panic and fright that laces Taehyung's voice as he shouts for me, sets off the trepidation inside me. Him being nervous is a rare thing to witness, even in the most difficult and hopelessness circumstances.
Jungkook leans back only a bit, glancing at upstairs for a moment, then looking back at me. His eyes harden.
"Go."
"J-Jungkook, but-"
"Now."
His voice is commanding, dominant, clear and sharp as a crystal. It has never been like that with me, not even during the period of his trustlessness.
I scramble to get on my feet, nearly tripping over my own dress cloth, to dash upstairs. My heart pounds, as I look back at him from up the stairs gathering medicals and some other items in a makeshift cloth sack in a questionable hurry.
Upon meeting my eyes, he directs to me a quick nod before I take my exit.
Throwing the large, dilapidated wooden doors open, I am met with a sight that sets my lungs on fire, and a sole sob breaks through my throat choked with tears.
No.
A painful distance separates me and my family as they stand there at the skirting of the woods, all primed up, guilty tears running down their faces, yet prepared to leave here for the sake of life.
It is time.
Somewhere in my heart, I had hoped, that this news of the dreaded shelling would be a mere rumour, or a misinterpretation of the enemies' plan; that we wouldn't have to leave the only place, the only memory of our parents and the lives we had before this war, behind. Or at least, we had a little while to depart with it, with a proper farewell.
But, everything does not go as wished for in life.
Taehyung shouts furiously for me to join them, being held back by another man, probably one of the three informers, from running back to get me myself. His eyes are wide and bloodshot, visible even from this distance, and they beg mine to hurry.
Rae is mounted on a horse with Jun crying into her chest, quivering with hiccups.
This stupor of mine quickly releases me from its clasp, and I run forward with all that I have, wanting nothing more than to be surrounded by my brother's embrace.
It isn't hard to realise that the attack is scheduled to be carried out in any minute, given the expressions the informers wear without veiling it.
I dash with all my might, but then the images of what all I'd be leaving behind cross my mind simultaneously.
Grey.
Halting on my way, I scan the surroundings. There is no sight of my beloved friend, near or far from where my dear people stand, which means that he's still stuck in the cottage.
Changing my course of direction, I run towards the ruins of the cottage, where my darling horse stands, waiting for me.
I can hear the frustrated, puzzled cries and calls from behind me, but I pay little attention to them.
Unlatching the door, I burst inside the little frail building, I scamper towards Grey, who thrashes around the place, having sensed the anxiety in the air, and wanting to be free and away from it.
I pull out the tent peg which holds his rope from the ground, setting him free. He quickly escapes the hut, with me following suit.
At the sight of me and Grey, Taehyung heaves a sigh of relief, but his solace lasts for only a short while, when I turn on my heels around once again, headed resolutely for the Outhouse.
Jungkook is stuck inside there too, weak and recovering. I can never leave without him, knowing he'd die there. He is, at last, my responsibility. It was I, who had brought him here, and therefore he is mine to care for till he is all better.
My morals and heart, both, do not allow me to leave without him.
Hurrying inside and downstairs, I run into him on his way out.
"J-Jungkook! Oh my- thank god," My sight blurs with tears finally surfacing with immeasurable fear and hurt.
He grips my wrist protectively with his hand that isn't balancing the sack on his shoulder, and drags me behind him towards the exit.
A flurry of screams reach our ears, mine distinguishing the voices of Taehyung, Rae, Jun and another man.
In the seconds that follow, a huge noise nearly tears my ears off, following a series of tremors, that has our legs giving up under us. We crash down to the ground, the harsh impact giving me a slight concussion. The aftershock does not take long to meet us, with debris traveling through the winds that hit the walls of the Outhouse, shaking them dangerously.
A few dust particles enter my eyes, and tears escape as a reaction, having dulled my already blurred sight.
A couple of seconds pass, and I realise that the determined running from before had depleted almost all of my energy, and the explosion has only contributed to it.
All my senses are growing numb, and I fight for consciousness. Every movement, big and small, is hazy, and for a moment, I contemplate if I should give up. Giving up wouldn't be so bad if I get to be united with my parents and him again, right?
A small smile forms on lips, as I picturize my father and my mother, and him, waiting for my arrival with their arms open, and my eyes threaten to close for good.
But again, everything does not go as wished for in life.
Two arms collect me in there embrace, shaking me back into consciousness. It takes a few seconds for me to come back to, and horrendous sounds reach my ears again. The temporary haze washes away, and reality starts setting in again.
The screams from outside are more violent, almost sounding crazy, being a mixture of wails, shoutings and calls.
Turning to my captor, I meet Jungkook's eyes, his eyebrows furrowed with heavy concern.
"Let's move."
He helps me back to my feet, just when another explosion takes place, luckily at a good distance from here.
Jungkook curses under his breath, guiding me back.
"There's no time to spare. Come with me."
I follow him to the back of the building with little to no hesitance. He opens up the window there, and helps me out of it, following suit.
As soon as he lands outside, we dash towards the woods, heaving and panting for breath.
A loud echo reaches our ears, from behind us, as if something is heading this direction, cutting through the thick skin of the air.
A loud, violent and sudden explosion resonates from behind us, and the impact pushes us off our feet again. The fall has my knees scraped up nicely and I whimper in pain.
I close my eyes, bracing for the aftershock, when I hear a string of murmurs from beside me. And then a weight covers my coiling form on the ground, just before the shockwave hits us mercilessly.
Everything turns black.
