14. raven

Not long after Bellamy had stormed off, Octavia had left without really saying much. I assumed she was going after her brother, but I wasn't entirely sure. I, on the other hand, was in search of my own brother. I hadn't seen him since the night before after we returned to camp and my worry was rising.

I let out a sigh as I looked around the camp which was buzzing with curiosity and excitement as people prepared for the trek out to the ship that had landed.

"Hey," I said, lighting grabbing a hold of a boys arm, "Have you seen Bellamy or Octavia? Or Finn?"

The boy shook his head, "Last I saw Bellamy was right after the pod came down. Not sure about your brother or Octavia."

I internally groaned, where could they have gone in this short amount of time?

"Avery!" I spun around to see Clarke and Finn marching towards me.

"There you are!" I exclaimed, relieved to see my brother, "You guys saw it right?" I asked as they stopped in front of me.

Both of them nodded, "Yeah" Clarke confirmed before pausing to look around camp, "Why is everyone still here?"

"Bellamy told everyone to wait until sunrise, said it was safer. Stupid idea if you ask me." I explained, rolling my eyes at the mention of Bellamy's plan.

"Where is he anyways?" Clarke asked in curiosity.

I shrugged, "I haven't seen him and Octavia since he told us to wait."

Clarke brushed past me, making her way into Bellamy's tent. Finn and I shared a look before following after her.

As we entered the tent, one of the girls from early—Zoe— scoffed, "Great now it's a free show." she snapped, rushing to cover up her half naked body.

I watched her through a glare as I glanced around, "Where's Bellamy?"

She returned the less than kind look I was giving her. "Wouldn't you like to know."

I scoffed, "What's that supposed to—"

"Where is he?" Clarke interrupted, not in the mood for our bickering. "This is important."

Zoe bristle, sending me a final look of contempt before answering Clarke. "He took off a while ago." She finally answered, "Didn't say where he was going."

"Gears gone too." Finn pointed out, bringing attention to the fact that Bellamy had taken everything with him.

"He told everyone to stay. Whatever's in that thing he wants it. We've got to get there before he does." Clarke announced, causing me to mentally kick myself. How did I not realize that's what he was up to?

"Uh, you're welcome!" Zoe called after us as we exited the tent.

"This isn't your fault Clarke." Finn promised as the three of us made our way through camp.

"It's my fault." I grumbled, causing Finn to look at me in confusion, "I should have known what he was up to when he told us to wait."

"And I should have known he would go for that radio." Clarke added.

"How could either of you know something like that?" Finn questioned.

"Because he has spent every minute since we got down here trying to make sure no one on the Ark finds out we're alive." She explained as we stopped at the table where all of our weapons were spread out.

"That doesn't mean you can predict what people are going to do." Finn argued.

"That's exactly what I have to do. I messed up, let myself get distracted." She said, mumbling the ending of the sentence.

I furrowed my brows at Finn's reaction. I did not need to know what she was talking about, not if it involved her and my brother.

We had been running through the forest for what felt like hours, but was most likely even less than one.

"Should we split up?" Clarke asked, pausing to take a breath.

Finn nodded, glancing around for a moment. "Yeah, you go that way, Avery and I will go this way. Meet at the bottom."

I followed after my brother as we branched off from Clarke, "What do you think it is?" I asked, causing Finn to look over at me.

"What?"

"In the pod, what do you think they sent down?"

Finn shrugged, "Probably just some more supplies, food and stuff."

I nodded slowly, thinking about the fact that we might actual have a decent meal if they truly sent food down to us. And as much as I hated to admit it, I hoped that Bellamy's little friend Zoe was right and there was shampoo in there too.

When we got to the bottom of the ridge Clarke was already down there...and so was somebody else.

A gasp tumbled from my lips as I ran into the back of my brother who had frozen in place. My running into the back of him seemed to jolt Finn back to reality, and in a matter of seconds he was taking off down the ridge. "Raven!"

It was my brother's first love. I was only fifteen when I was locked up, but even at that time, Finn and Raven were inseparable.

We had known her our entire lives and she had always been so good to me. She was the one person, aside from Abby Griffin who knew our secret. I trusted Raven with my life, and despite how happy I was to see her, I couldn't believe she was truly here.

At the calling of her name, Raven spun, her eyes widening at the sight of my brother running toward her. "Finn!" she cried in surprise, not wasting any time in throwing her arms around him in a tight embrace.

I watched as they exchanged a few words and then her lips were on his. My eyes shifted to Clarke who's smile faded at the realization of who this was.

"How did you get here?" Finn asked once the two of them pulled apart. His eyes were scanning her, as if he didn't believe she was real.

"You know that big scrap hold? That one on K Deck?" Raven explained with a proud smile. All of our eyes moved to the pod she had come down in.

"You built that from scrap?" Finn questioned in astonishment.

"I kind of rebuilt it." Raven corrected, "Please, like that's hard? Just need a couple parts and some love."

"You're insane." Finn concluded, a proud smile on his face.

"I'd do more for you, and worse. Just like you would for me." Raven declared, causing Clarke's mood to drop even more.

Raven and Finn stared at each other for another few seconds before Raven started to sway uneasily.

"Here, sit down." Finn said, directing her towards a large rock and setting her down. He looked at her head for a moment, "Let me get something for that." He mumbled before turning around and heading towards Clarke.

With Raven finally separated from my brother, I lowered myself down on the rock next to her. "You're quite the space cadet if I do say so myself."

She looked over to me with wide eyes, as if she just realized I was there, she probably did considering her focus had only been on Finn since we had arrived, "Avery, oh my God, look at you!" she squealed, wrapping her arms around me.

I let out a laugh as she embraced me, "I missed you, Raven."

She nodded, pulling back to examine me once again. "I missed you too...like crazy." She admitted, "You look so grown up."

I jokingly rolled my eyes as she stared at me like I was some sort of alien. "Still the same old Avery." I assured, but I knew that wasn't true.

"Here," Finn said, reproaching us with Clarke by his side, "Put pressure on the wound."

"Thanks." Raven whispered, doing as he instructed.

"This is Clarke." Finn announced, "She was on the drop ship too."

"Clarke?" Raven asked in surprise, standing up so she was face to face with the blonde, "This is all because of your mom."

"My mom?" Clarke asked in shock.

"This was all her plan. We were trying to come down here together, we waited—oh my God." Raven gasped as if something had just dawned on her.  "We couldn't wait because the council was voting whether or not to kill 300 people to save air."

I felt my heart drop into my stomach as I looked around at the other three teenagers. This wasn't good...our wristbands going offline made it seemed like we were all dead, and if they thought the earth was uninhabitable, then they needed to make room up there.

"When?" Clarke demanded.

"Today." Raven answered, "We have to tell them you're alive!" She yelled, already taking off towards the pod.

The other three of us followed after her, all of us stopping as Raven ducked into the ship, coming out seconds later with a worried look on her face, "The radio's gone. It must have come loose during reentry. I should have strapped it to the A-Strut. Stupid!" she cursed, banging on the pod in anger.

"It wasn't you." I announced, causing Raven to look at me in surprise, "Bellamy got here before us."

"Avery's right." Clarke agreed, a look of distress on her face. "We need to find him...now."
