121. ice nation king

The cool metal of the Rover pressed against my back as I leaned up against it, watching as Clarke paced back and forth across the snow covered ground.

After leaving the beach, we had returned to the Rover, driving it into an open field to allow for it to charge up. Our next task at hand was deciding where we went next.

"Rover's almost charged." Bellamy announced jumping down from where he had been standing on the vehicle. "We need to pack up, we'll be home soon."

"Then what?" Clarke asked, finally ceasing her pacing. "Run away?"

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "We have no other options, Clarke." I argued, shifting in my position atop the hood of the vehicle.

Bellamy shot me a warning look before addressing Clarke. "We're not running away." he countered, "We need to regroup with the others, find another way to defeat her-"

"--There is no other way!" Clarke exclaimed. "We need to find another Nightblood. We need to unlock the Flame. It's the only way to stop ALIE."

"What do you expect us to do, Clarke?" Jasper questioned from where he sat beside me. "Walk into random villages asking for their Nightbloods?"

Clarke nodded, "If that's what it takes."

"We're not doing that." I announced, sliding off of the hood. "That's a disaster waiting to happen."

"Avery's right." Octavia agreed, "If ALIE can find us on Luna's rig, then she can find us anywhere. I won't help you destroy another  innocent Grounder village."

Clarke looked between Octavia and I, her face covered in a pleading look. "If we don't find another Nightblood, there won't be any Grounder villages. Or a home for us to go back to."

"That's all the more reason we go there and make sure our friends are okay." Bellamy argued, his tone strict.

Clarke bit down on her lip, looking to the remaining three of us, clearly hoping one of us was going to take her side.

When he eyes landed on me, I gave her a small shake of my head.

Clarke was usually right, but in this case I really could not get on board with her plan. There was no way I was just going to leave the rest of our friends in Arkadia.

When she finally realized no one was going to agree with her, Clarke stalked off toward the forest without so much as another word to the rest of us.

Bellamy let out an angry sigh as he watched her go. Meanwhile Octavia and I shared defeated looks.

"She'll be fine." Jasper promised, "Just let her cool off."

And so that's exactly what we did.

Octavia and I grabbed the remaining bags, loading them into the back of the Rover.

And then we waited, and waited and waited.

And after close to fifteen minutes with no sign of Clarke, Bellamy threw open the door of the Rover.

"Where are you going?" I questioned, sitting up in the passenger seat.

Bellamy checked the clip in his gun before addressing me. "To look for her. This is ridiculous."

"Well then I'm coming with you." I announced, already beginning to follow him out of the Rover.

Bellamy let out a sigh as he shook his head. "Avery, no." he argued, turning to face me as I rounded his side of the Rover. "Just stay here, please."

I furrowed my brows. "Why?" I questioned, "You want some alone time with Clarke?"

Bellamy scoffed, "What are you talking about?"

I bit down on the inside of my cheek, willing myself to stop talking before I embarrassed myself any further with my jealously. "Nothing." I muttered, turning before he could say anything else.

I pulled myself into the back of the Rover, no longer wanting to occupy the seat next to the one in which Bellamy would take when he got back.

"You know you don't have to listen to him anymore." Jasper pointed out as I flopped down in the seat across from him.

"What?" I questioned more harshly than I had intended as I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Bellamy. You two broke up didn't you?" he confirmed, still watching me with raised brows.

I shrugged, stealing a glance at Octavia who was watching me intently. "I guess."

"Then you don't have to listen to everything he tells you to do. Do whatever the hell you want."

"It's not that simple." I muttered, not really wanting to dive into this discussion at the moment.

"What? Cause you still love him, right?"

"You know what, Jasper? I really don't want to-"

My sentence cut off as a gunshot rang off somewhere in the forest where both Clarke and Bellamy had disappeared to.

I shot up, my eyes wide with worry as I scrambled to the front of the Rover, trying to see if I could see anything.

Octavia followed me, her slipping into the passenger seat and me into the driver's seat. "That can't be good." I breathed, my heart pounding in my chest.

"Just give them a second." Octavia advised, her own eyes prowling the tree line. "I'm sure it was just a false alarm."

"If I don't have eyes on them in two minutes, I'm going out there, Tavia." I announced, not taking my eyes off of the forest.

Luckily, for everyone involved, barely two minutes later, Clarke and Bellamy emerged from the tree line. However, much to everyone's shock, they were not alone.

"What the hell?"

---

My eyes continuously shifted between my task at hand and the person in which I was currently carrying out this task on.

"I'm not going to bite."

His voice was rough as he spoke, and a small grin came to cover his face.

I straightened up, finally finished with bandaging the bullet wound on his arm-courtesy of Bellamy. "I'm actually more concerned about you murdering me."

As it turned out, the person that Bellamy had dragged out of the woods with them was none other than the Ice Nation King- Roan. According to Clarke, he was our best bet at getting to Ontari, the self proclaimed Commander. Ontari also happened to be a Nightblood, and was our only hope at the moment.

Roan let out a bark of laughter, "Well considering you guys have already shot me once, I think I'm the one who needs to be concerned."

I fought back a smile as Bellamy turned his head ever so slightly. "Is everything okay back there?" he demanded, trying to look between us and the road.

"Fine." I answered, moving away from Roan and back to my seat.

"You really that afraid of me?" Roan asked, noting my urgency in moving away from him.

Bellamy, who had now taken his eyes fully off the road, looked back at us. "Someone gag him." he ordered, his angry eyes landing on me.

Jasper let out a small laugh as he leaned forward, tying a cloth around Roan's face. "Yes, sir."

The rest of the ride was rather silent and most consisted of the group of us stealing nervous glances at Roan, afraid he was somehow going to break free of his restraints.

I couldn't help but let out a sigh when the gates of Arkadia came into view. Everyone else, save for Roan, seemed to mirror my emotions.

The doors to the hangar were already open for us as we pulled up. Miller, Harper and Bryan were standing outside waiting for us.

The second the Rover was inside, Bellamy shifted it into park before jumping out and rushing to the back.

"Lock it up!" he instructed, pulling open the doors to the back of the vehicle.

I watched as he reached for Roan, pulling him out of the vehicle without so much as a word. I let out a small sigh, following after them.

"We were staring to get worried." Raven announced, making her way toward us with a smile. As she scanned our faces, he smile faded. "Where's Luna."

I gave her a defeated look. "Luna said no." I explained, watching as everyone else's faces fell slightly.

"Who the hell is this?" Harper questioned, her eyes locked on Roan.

Bryan clenched his jaw, anger written on his face. "He's Ice Nation."

"King of the Ice Nation, actually." Clarke corrected before looking to the rest of the group. "And he's our way into Polis."

Everyone seemed stunned into silence, so Bellamy took this as his chance to speak. "This way, Your Highness." he muttered, beginning to push Roan forward. "You two," he beckoned to Miller and Bryan, "With me. Take him to lock up."

As the four boys made their leave, Raven looked back to Clarke. "You want to us him to get to Ontari." she assumed.

Clarke nodded, a small smile coming to her face. "Yes."

"What happened to his arm?" Harper asked, her eyes following the boys out of the room.

I followed her line of sight. "Bellamy shot him." I explained before turning my head to look at her with raised brows.

Monty let out a small laugh. "Good luck getting him to talk now."
