110. EMP

Silence enveloped the three of us as we made our way back to the group.

Octavia, who had thankfully decided to stay with us, sat up front, driving the Rover.

I sat in the back with Monty, carefully watching him as he stared down at the floor. He looked broken.

"I'm so sorry, Monty." I whispered, reaching out to place my hand over his own.

He looked up at me, his eyes teary. "I'm sorry that she hurt you." he whispered, his eyes focusing on my swollen eye and bruised face.

I felt my heartbreak...he just had to kill his own mother, yet he was apologizing to me?

"You have nothing to be sorry for." I promised, my voice firm, "Nothing at all."

Monty let out a small sniffled as he leaned into the side of me. "That wasn't really her." he whispered, it sounded like a mixture of a question and a statement. "It was ALIE." He cleared his throat. "My mom was already gone." he announced, and it now became clear he was trying to convince himself. "She was already gone."

---

When we returned to where the rest of our friends were, we were met with the sight of Bellamy and the Grounder woman -Niylah-standing outside, seemingly in some sort of discussion.

Upon our arrival, Niylah turned, swiftly making her way inside just as Jasper was making his way outside.

I pulled my attention away from them for a moment, instead focusing on grabbing the pack and handing it to Monty who was waiting outside of the Rover. He took the bag, wordlessly beginning to make his way toward the hut.

Octavia and I followed, all of our faces somber and bruised as we approached our Bellamy and Jasper.

Monty moved past them, barely giving them a second look as he disappeared inside. It didn't take a mind reader to figure out that something had gone wrong on our trip to the Dropship.

Bellamy beat Jasper to the punch in inquiring about our journey. "What happened?" he demanded, his eyes flickering between Octavia and I.

My best friend shifted slightly, glancing at her brother before looking to Jasper. She didn't say anything, but the look on her face gave away enough for Jasper to know his best friend needed him.

His shoulders fell ever so slightly as he nodded at Octavia, the two of them then beginning to make their way inside.

I went to follow, my head down as I tried to pass Bellamy. He didn't let me get very far.

His hand shot out to lightly grab a hold of my arm, effectively holding me in place. "Are you okay?" he whispered, his voice soft and full of worry.

I cleared my throat, working up the nerve to look up at him. When I did, I felt my heart soften ever so slightly. The look he was giving me made it really hard to be mad at him. But as hard as it was, there was no denying my anger. "I'm fine." I muttered, moving to free myself from his grasp. "We should get inside."

Surprisingly, Bellamy didn't put up a fight, but instead gave a small nod before following me toward the entrance. I was conscious of how close he was standing to me as we made our way to the back, his presence causing my body to buzz.

I was shaken from my thoughts as a yell from Sinclair carried throughout the room. "Hold her arms down!" he ordered to Monty who was struggling against a resisting Raven.

She thrashed around, similar to how she had when we first tried to restrain her. It seemed that ALIE was nervous about us actually succeeding in getting this thing out of Raven's head.

I jumped into action, moving to the other side of Raven where Octavia stood just as Raven struck Monty, sending him to the floor.

"Raven!" I yelled, trying to hold her down the best I could in order to allow Sinclair to hook up the device. She continued resisting, letting out angry grunts as she tried to push us off of her.

However, suddenly her motives changed from trying to push us off, to instead her ramming her head into the hard metal of the headboard on the bed.

My eyes grew wide as she continued to smack her head off the hard frame, angry grunts still coming from her lips.

"She's trying to kill herself!" Bellamy exclaimed, rushing to the side that had been left vacant by an injured Monty.

He grabbed a hold of her arm as I took a hold of Raven's head, trying to prevent her from hurting herself any further. "Raven, please!" I begged, becoming increasingly concerned that we were going to lose her as she continued to fight against my restraint.

"Stop," Clarke begged, "And I'll give you this."

We all froze, including Raven who had her eyes set on the small item in Clarke's hand. It looked similar to the chip that Raven and the others had taken to get into the 'City of Light'. However, I knew it wasn't. What Clarke was holding was the Flame...exactly what ALIE was after.

With Raven momentarily distracted, Bellamy took that as an opportunity to snap the wristband around her arm. Raven's eyes shot over to him as Sinclair finish hooking up the EMP. "No!" she begged, "Please don't do this! The EMP will give me brain damage! You know that, please!"

"Don't listen to her." Octavia ordered, as she continued to hold Raven down.

"Sinclair, please!" Raven cried, "Please don't."

"We only have one shot at this." Sinclair announced. Although he was ignoring Raven's pleas, I could tell he was distressed. "The EMP will fry the wristband too."

"Okay, do it." Bellamy ordered.

So Sinclair listened. He flipped the switch, and I felt myself take in a sharp breath as I awaited the results.

However, nothing seemed to happen, which caused all of us to look to Sinclair with wide eyes. "What happened?" I questioned, my voice full of duress.

"Nothing." Sinclair breathed, looking down at the device. "The battery must not be strong enough." His eyes were just as wide and worried as everyone else's.

"Well then get one that is!" Clarke demanded.

"The Rover." Monty announced, already making his way toward the door. Bellamy followed after him, the two of them rushing outside while the rest of us did our best to keep Raven at bay.

Each second they were gone felt like an eternity. Raven continued to fight against us, and it seemed she was getting closer and closer to breaking free from our hold.

A minute or two had passed since they had rushed outside when a gunshot rang off somewhere beyond the walls. I felt my heart lurch at the prospect that Bellamy and Monty were in danger. Time seemed to move even slower now as I awaited their return.

To my immense relief, the were inside within a matter of moments, both of them unscathed.

"Guys, we have to move!" Bellamy announced, hovering by the door with his gun clutched tightly in his hands.

Sinclair's hands were shaking as he and Monty rushed to hook up the new battery. "Got it!" he yelled, wasting no time in pulling the switch.

Unlike the last time, it clearly worked this time as the sound of electricity buzzing through the device met my ears.

Raven let out a heart shattering scream as the currents flooded into her. In a split second, she was silent as her body slumped in defeat, her eyes closed.

I felt myself pale as I took a small step back, my breathing rigid as I stared down at Raven, instantly fearing the worse.

Clarke quickly moved to her bedside, placing two fingers on Raven's neck. "She's breathing." she confirmed, somewhat easing my fear.

But when Raven still didn't open her eyes, I felt my heart beginning to hammer against my chest.

"Come on, Raven." I begged, crouching down so I was at eye level with her. "Please, Rave. Open your eyes."

Clarke lightly shook her, worry in her voice as she spoke. "Raven." she pleaded. "Come on."

Octavia stood beside me, her actions mirroring mine and Clarke's. I felt worried tears threatening to spill from my eyes as I stared at Raven's unconscious body.

I was terrified that we might have just killed the Raven we once knew.
