A COLD BREEZE BLEW PAST AS SHE MADE HER way down the cold waters of the south. Mountains of icebergs were so tall it felt like they were closing in on her as she continued on. ( Y/N ) couldn't believe she was saying this, but she was missing the Fire Nation β€” it was freezing out here. After traveling ( fleeing from nearly getting caught ) for two years, fleeing home with the help of her uncle Iroh, ( Y/N ) has now ended up from running from the Earth Kingdom to a deserted land of nothing but a cold winters, the sun peaking through the grey clouds with not much of a result. This would be when constantly being surrounded by fire would come in handy, but anything was better than being back there.

Broken pieces of ice floated through the waters as ( Y/N ) paddled through.

Every other day had been like this since leaving the Earth Kingdom: quiet and lonely, but it was either lonely her her father, Firelord Ozai.

And one option seemed better than the other.

Just then, something from the water nudged at her boat. She looked down, squinting her eyes in confusion. "The heck?"

Suddenly, a large wave gathered in the waters, causing her to let out a gasp and pushing her boat out of its original direction. She tried paddling through, turning through the piles of ice that were floating in the ocean, but it was too strong. In the end, she ended up on on a block of ice, where two kids had just been stuck.

Hearing something behind them, the boy turned around. "Oh, great! Not only did you get us stuck here, but you also got this girl stuck here too!"

( Y/N ) stood up with a huff. "Excuse me?"

Sokka threw a glare. "What?"

"This girl," ( Y/N ) crossed her arms. "Has a name."

"That I don't know," Sokka fired back with a scoff. "Leave it to a couple of girls to screw things up."

A huff passed ( Y/N )'s lips as she crossed her arms, looking up. She overheard some of the argument between the two siblings, which ultimately led to Katara breaking a large block of ice with her waterbending. As the argument escalated, Sokka and ( Y/N ) tried gaining the waterbenders attention, but she was too angry to notice.

"... not pleasant!"

"Katara! Settle down!" Sokka exclaimed.

"No! That's it," Katara snapped. "I'm done helping you. From now on, you're on your own!"

( Y/N ) looked up in horror, pointing at the ice, now cracked in half. "Katara..."

The trio turned to find the ice breaking in half. The waves pushed the block of ice they've landed on awau from where they previously were. ( Y/N ) was about to fall of, but Sokka grabbed onto her and pulled her back up.

"Okay, you've gone from weird, to freakish, Katara."

"You mean, I did that?" Katara asked in disbelief.

"Yep. Congratulations," Sokka snapped.

"Never seen waterbending so... up close," ( Y/N ) shuddered.

Just then, a blue, glowing light came from the waters. The trio stood up on the block of as a block of ice spring from the depths of the icy sea. When they looked closer, they spotted someone inside. "He's alive! We have to help."

"Katara! Get back here!"

( Y/N ) followed after her. "We don't even know who he is!"

( Y/N ) and Sokka trialed behind Katara, jumping past the blocks of ice that made a path to the glowing block of ice. Once they got on, Katara continuously hit the ice with Sokka's staff, trying to free the person inside. With one final hit, a large gust for wind, nearly pushed them back.

The block of ice broke in half and a glowing beam of blue light blew up above. Once the wind blew away, the trio looked up to see a figure with glowing symbols all over stand from the ice.

"Stop!" Sokka yelled, pointing the staff upward.

When the light faded, the child fell and Katara gasped, catching him. Sokka poked him with his staff, but Katara stopped him. A few moments later, the boy's eyes opened and he spoke, "I need to... ask you something."

"What?"

"Please, come closer."

Katara smiled. "What is it?"

"Will you go penguin-sledding with me?" The kid asked with a bright smile.

"Uh... sure," Katara shrugged. "I guess."

Just then, he flew up, as if air had pushed him off the ground. Sokka stepped back, putting an arm behind ( Y/N ) and pulling her up. "Take her, she might be annoying, butβ€”"

Before he could finish, ( Y/N ) nudged him in the arm. "Idiot."

"You barely know me!" Sokka exclaimed.

"What's going on here?" The kid asked.

Sokka pointed his staff at the child. "You tell us! How did you get in the ice? And why aren't you frozen?"

The kid moved Sokka's staff away. "I'm not sure."

Just then, the sound of growling emerged from the block of ice. The kid climbed over, leaving them behind. Katara, Asoka and ( Y/N ) followed him over and Sokka's mouth fell open in horror at the sight of the giant creature.

"Ha! You're okay!"

"What is that thing?" Sokka questioned.

"This is Appa," he explained. "My flying bison."

"And this is Katara," Sokka replied, pointing to Katara. "My flying sister."

"Look out!"

A few moments later, Appa sneezed all over Sokka, thankfully missing Katara and ( Y/N ). Sokka tried getting some of it, while behind him, Katara and ( Y/N ) squirmed in disgust.

"Don't worry," he reassured. "It'll wash out. So do you guys live around here?"

Sokka pointed his staff at him. "Don't answer that. Did you see that crazy bolt of light? He was probably trying to signal the fire Navy."

( Y/N ) looked down, hoping no one noticed. Anytime she hears someone talk about the Fire Nation it's a stinging reminder of all the harm her family's done in the nations. Her brother Zuko being sent to find the Avatar, the Air Nomads... the water tribe. She quickly looked up, crossing her arms against her chest. "If I die from getting exploded by the Fire Nation I'm coming back to haunt this kid!"

Katara rolled her eyes. "Ugh! You two are perfect for each other," as she pushed Sokka aside, she could hear an eww from the both of them. "Oh, yeah. I'm sure he's a spy for the Fire Navy. You can tell by the evil look in his eye."

The kid made a cute look and then Katara went to introduce the two. "The paranoid one is my brother Sokka," she then turned to ( Y/N ) and raided an eyebrow. "And this is..."

"( Y/N )," ( Y/N ) coughed with an awkward stance. "Um... I'm a nomad, I got lost here!"

"Yeah, the nomad over there is ( Y/N )," Katara nodded before turning back. "You never told us your name."

"I'm β€” Ah! Ah!" The kid let out a big sneeze, being flown up into the air and eventually coming back down, wiping his nose.

The kids looked at him in shock as he said, "I'm Aang."

"You just sneezed and flew ten feet into the air," Sokka pointed upward.

"Really? It felt higher than that,"

Katara gasped. "Oh! You're an Airbender?"

"Sure am."

"Giant light beams, flying bison, weird girls who crash into us, Airbenders," Sokka listed off. "I think I got midnight sun madness. I'm going home to where stuff makes sense."

As Sokka got to the edge of the block of ice, he found that their boat was gone and they've been stranded. ( Y/N ) sighed, lowering her head, remembering her boat had been lost too.

"Well, if you guys are stuck Appa and I can give you a lift," Aang insisted.

Aang flew up onto Appa, holding onto the rope. Katara looked up, smiling brightly, immediately running up onto the flying bison. "We'd love a ride! Thanks!"

"Oh no! I am not getting on that fluffy snot monster," Sokka stated.

"Are you hoping some other kind of monster will come along and give you a ride home? You know, before you freeze to death," Katara said.

"Uhβ€”"

Eventually, Sokka gave in and the trio had gotten onto the flying bison. Once Aang said yip-yip, Appa flew up and then flopped down into the icy waters.

"Wow, that was truly amazing," Sokka said in a sarcastic tone.

( Y/N ) nudged him in the arm. "Just give it time."

"Alright, nomad-girl," Sokka crossed his arms. "Whatever you say."

Sokka found himself staring at her, he couldn't figure out why, though. And it didn't take too long for ( Y/N ) to notice. "What?"

"Huh?" Sokka quickly turned away. "I don't know what you're talking about."

NIGHT HAD FALLEN AND THE FLYING BISON WAS still floating through the icy waters of the southern water tribe. It was nice not floating alone in the ocean anymore, but every time she closed her eyes, ( Y/N ) had this itching feeling the Fire Nation was behind them, looking for her.

Ever since she's left, Admiral Zhao and ever her brother had been looking for her ( alongside the Avatar ) to bring her back to the Fire Nation for her betrayal.

Sokka stretched his arms, yawning. He turned, noticing ( Y/N ) was still awake. "Can't sleep either?"

( Y/N ) turned around with a shrug. "It's a flying bison," she crossed her arms against her chest. "We're squished together on a saddle, what do you think?"

"Jeez."
