After Rio's little monologue, Miles climbed down the latter form the building and nearly got caught by a man walking his dog, but was safe for the most part. Bright lights illuminate through the dark blue sky as Miles swung around, finding ( Y/N ).
She made a stop at the cemetery and slowly opened the large gate her and Miles entered last time. But before she could even get in, Gwen stopped by in her spider-suit. Gwen must've told her about the spider-socket too since he heard the name Miguel O'Hara pop up again.
Once Gwen tricked the police so she could get by, her and ( Y/N ) swung into an abandoned building that was covered in spots. Miles turned invisible so the girls wouldn't see him.
( Y/N ) frowned in confusion. "So... why am I here and not Miles?"
"Um — field trip," Gwen shrugged. "Plus... Miguel wants to see you?"
Miles tilted his head from above the ceiling. He wondered why Miguel wanted to ( Y/N ) and not him, considering she wasn't a spider-person like him and Gwen were.
"But I'm not a spider-person!" ( Y/N ) exclaimed.
That's what I said ! Miles thought to himself.
Around the abandoned building were all sorts of Alchemax Easter eggs. Like a photo of Doc Ock in her normal form with another scientists, a framed Alchemax diploma and a bunch of vials and a spider in a case, the same one that bit Miles. There was also another spider besides it.
"Well, he just wants to see you. So let's leave it at that," Gwen snapped.
"Jeez, alright. Shouldn't Miles be the one he wants to see?" ( Y/N ) questioned.
Gwen sighed. "Look, I wanted to swing by for a catch up too — but this is important."
"Fine," ( Y/N ) pouted.
Gwen pressed on her wrist band as four orange circles of light appeared around them. They surged the room and a hologram of the Spot appeared, showing what he was doing. He was carrying loads of wires, stumbling as he walked to the table besides them.
"I need more spots!" The hologram exclaimed. "It was right under where... my nose would've been."
The Spot hologram began to glitch a little as the replay went on. "But I just need a little bit more dimension juice."
"Shoot!" Gwen exclaimed as ( Y/N ) copied her words, trying to act like she understood.
( Y/N ) snapped her head in Gwen's direction. "What's... happening?"
"Branding was never my strong suit," the hologram continued. "Could generate a little more concentrated dark energy."
The spot hologram plugged to wires together and went to the other side of the room. He placed a tiny object onto a platform and the wheels of it started turning, it almost looked like... a mini collider. A blast of light burst through.
Shoot.
The Spot put his whole body through the dark hole an vanished. A burst of light blasted from the hologram, ending the replay of the events.
"No! Why! Why! Why! Why!" Gwen exclaimed.
"Why? What's why? Gwen—"
"Gwen," a feminine voice appeared behind them, cutting ( Y/N ) off.
When they turned around, a girl with dark curly and glasses was standing behind them with her arms crossed against her chest. "What you doing?"
"Hi — uh, nothing. Uh... everything's good," Gwen stuttered. "Bye."
Before Gwen walked away, the woman appeared again. "Where's the bad guy you were supposed to monitor?"
"He just slipped out... for a moment."
"Dude!"
"Look, he's just some villain of the week," Gwen shrugged it off before signaling to ( Y/N ). "And I was getting our little... visitor, like you said."
"Lyla,"
"Who's Lyla?" ( Y/N ) asked.
Gwen motioned her hands. "No, we don't need—"
"Tracking," Lyla announced as she moved across the screen the the dots and lines. "Hey, look! I got him. Oh, never mind. Hold on— oh, slippery guy."
"Did you go visit your little friend?" Jess asked.
"What— Miles? No,"
"Oh! You helped him with the thing," ( Y/N ) said in realization.
Gwen shrugged. "He did most of it. And I only saw him briefly, alright?"
"Are you kidding me, right now?"
"From afar."
"How far?"
"Like... this far," Gwen winced as she moved her arms closer to each other to demonstrate.
"Girl!"
"Is it so wrong to check on a friend?"
Jess scoffed. "I— I honestly can't with you. He can't be part of this, and you know what that means."
"What does that mean?" Gwen frowned in confusion.
"That means once your little Chase friend over here tags along with you, bye bye, miles."
"What?!" ( Y/N ) exclaimed.
What?!
At those words, a number feeling rushed through Miles's body, washing over him and nearly drowned him down. He never thought he'd here the words where one day he'd have to leave his best friend; not like this, at least.
"I can't stay there forever. What— what about my mom too?!"
"You bigger things to worry about," Jess spoke directly at her, which shocked her a little since ( Y/N ) thought she wasn't able to see her this whole time.
( Y/N ) let out a long heavy sigh before finally saying, "I'll go."
No...
From behind her mask, Gwen gave her a look of sympathy. Before they could continue the conversation, Lyla showed another hologram of the Spot moving around more, making his own portals into other dimensions before eventually ended up in one, probably with a collider.
Miles examines the hologram, coming with his own theory for the Spot's plan. Once Lyla was finished with her explanation, Jess turned back to Gwen.
"Amazing! My star pupil everyone,"
"I'll get him, okay? I can get backup!"
Jess sighed. "If Miguel finds out I let you—"
"Don't tell Miguel," Gwen pleaded in a nervous tone. "He'll kick me out and... what if he sends me home?"
"I got him!" Lyla announced. "Earth-50101. What do you wanna do?"
Jess's eyes drifted over to Gwen. "You never made a mistake? Never got too close to someone?"
"I did. But I got over it," Jess replied. "Alert the local spider and tell him Gwen... and ( Y/N ) will meet him."
"Thank you, thank you."
"You got an hour."
Once Jess left, Gwen let out a long heavy sigh as she took off her mask. Gwen patted ( Y/N )'s shoulder, informing her she'll meet her there. As Gwen left through the hex, ( Y/N ) took a step near it before turning back to the view of the city in front of her, not knowing this might be the last time she'd see it.
"Goodbye, Miles," ( Y/N ) muttered, feet still stuck on her spot.
Miles, still invisible, hovered upside down, right in front of her. If this was the last time he'd see her, he had to reveal himself. Just before she turned around, Miles's invisibility faded away, causing ( Y/N ) to jump back with a gasp.
"Whoa!"
"Oh, I'm sorry!"
( Y/N ) started panicking. "Miles! What — were you here for the whole—"
"Uh... yeah. Sorry."
"Come on."
"Look, I know you're gonna say no," Miles plopped down right side up in front of her. "And I'm cool with that. But maybe if you let and Gwen let them see what I can do, they'll let me in!"
"To be fair— I don't even know why the.. arachnid association.." ( Y/N ) shrugged, forgetting the name. "Wants me, anyway. So... I guess it couldn't hurt."
A bright smile formed on Miles's features. "Yes!"
