Kanha's demand

-

The delicious and mouth watering aroma of 56 bhog and the delicious sweets made from pure ghee fill the palace of Dwarka. The open kitchen doors guided the sweet aroma throughout the palace, into each room.

Mata Devaki and Mata Rohini both have a smile on their faces as they work their way through the kitchen, sometimes instructing the dasis, sometimes adding ingredients in the food themselves.

There was nothing special for them to make so many sweets and 56 bhog. They were doing this to see the beautiful smiles on their children's faces, especially Kanha.

"Jiji, aapne makhan chupa diya hai na?" [Sister, you've hidden the makhan, right?]

Rohini smiles at Devaki's questions, and turns to face her. "Yes, Devaki. I have hidden it well, don't worry, Kanha won't be able to get it."

Devaki breathes out in relief at her sister's words. She knows that once Kanha finds makhan, no one else will be able to enjoy it with lunch today.

Kanha and his love for makhan are a love story of their own. Place Makhan and 56 bhog on opposite sides and Kanha will makhan instead of the bhog.

Part of Devaki wants to blame her sakhi Yashoda, but even she knows that even Yashoda was tired of Kanha's love for makhan. No one can separate Kanha and makhan. They are inseparable.

The sound of laughter breaks Devaki and Rohini's attention from their respective tasks. Glancing up, they notice their beloved Kanha walk into the room with sulken look on his face.

Following behind Kanha, are Subhadra and Balram, who seem just as confused as Rohini ans Devaki as to why their always smiling Kanha has a frown on his face.

Something in Kanha's hands catches Rohini's eyes and she gasps, "Kanha, where did you find that makhan?"

That is when Devaki, Subhadra, and Balram notice the matki of makhan, resting in Kanha's arm, as he strides further into room, licking his hand to eat the makhan.

Taking a moment to examine Kanha, Rohini's and Devaki notice how his mouth is smeared with makhan. His hands are covered in makhan, as they reach into the matki to get more makhan.

"What makhan?" Kanha questions innocently, his head tilting to the side in a way to portray innocence.

Kanha makes no effort to hide the matki in his hands, as he continues to eat and observe the shocked expressions on the faces of Mata Rohini and Mata Devaki.

Devaki narrows her eyes at her son, crossing her arms over her chest. "The makhan in your hands, Kanha. Where did you get it from?"

Kanha looks at his mata, then at the matki in his hands. "Oh, this? Dau gave it to me."

Balram Dau, who was just casually chatting with Subhadra, turns towards Kanha with a bewildered look on his face as his name is mentioned.

"Kya?! Kanha humne kab tumhe makhan diya?" Balram tries to prove his innocence as soon as he notices the glares that Mata Rohini and Mata Devaki are giving him. [What?! Kanha, when did I give you the makhan?]

When Mata Devaki and Mata Rohini turn to Kanha for an explanation, their anger instantly melts at the charming smile playing on their Kanha's lips.

Kanha looks so cute with his smile, makhan in his hands and his mouth smeared with makhan, that both the Mata cannot bring themselves to reprimand him.

"Do not do that the next time." Rohini sighs, knowing her words will have no affect upon him.

Kanha nods absentmindedly, his attention fully on the makhan in his hands. Devaki and Rohini just give up, going back to their respective tasks.

What the two don't know is that Kanha heard what they had said but he was distracted by the makhan that tastes so good that he couldn't help himself.

Walking over to Balram Dau and Subhadra, Kanha has to slap their hands away from his makhan.

Balram Dau frowns at Kanha, trying to get makhan again, only to be struck again. "Kanha, mujhe bhi lene do makhan." [Kanha, let me get some makhan.]

"Bilkul nahi, Dau. Yeh makhan humara hai. Hum nahi denge." Kanha refuses, shaking his head at his Dau. [Absolutely not, Dau. This is my makhan. I won't give it to you.]

"Bhrata, won't you give it to your anuja?" Subhadra whines with a pout, and that is enough to make Kanha give in.

Kanha smiles at his anuja, before feeding her a morsel of makhan, much to Balram Dau's shock. He just watches as Krishna and Subhadra eat the makhan together, without even sharing with him.

What Dau doesn't understand is that there are two people who Krishna cannot say no to. One is Subhadra, his anuja and the other one is his priye, his Lakshmi. It is impossible to say no to the two of them.

Krishna and Subhadra, who are busy eating, notice the forlorn look on Dau's face and then share a smile with each other. The two walks towards their Dau, who is clearly upset with the two of them.

"Dau?" Subhadra calls out softly, trying her best to keep the smile from breaking out on her lips.

When they receive a huff in answer, Madhav takes a seat beside his upset brother. "Dau, makhan nahi khaoge?" [Dau, won't you eat makhan?]

"Tum toh rahene hi do, Kanha. Abhi tumne kahi na ki tumhara makhan hai, ab kyu mujhe de rahe ho?" Balram Dau taunts the makhan chor. [You just let it be, Kanha. You just said na that this is your makhan, why are giving it to me now?]

Subhadra has to bite her lips from breaking into laughter at the way her Dau is upset like a little kid. However, she fails to hold her laughter, making Dau glare at her.

"Only Mata loves me. Just wait until she remembers everything, then I'll tell her all about how you two teamed up on me." Balram Dau says, a smirk etching on his face.

Subhadra raises a brow at her Dau, "Who says that she will take your side, Dau. She will obviously be on my side."

"Please. My Mata loves me more." Just as Balram Dau says that, the two errupt into an argument on which side Mata Lakshmi would be on.

Kanha watches the amused, while enjoying his makhan. It is so fun to watch the two argue over something Narayan knows the answer to. Something he can say with confidence and zero hesitation.

His Lakshmi loves him the most and he loves his Lakshmi more than anything. The two are eternal spouses and lovers. It is their divine destiny to be together.

Without Narayan, Lakshmi is incomplete and without Lakshmi, Narayan is incomplete. Their love has transcended many obstacles, and they have always found a way to be together.

So to watch Subhadra and his Dau fight over who his priye loves the most is quite entertaining to say the least.

Noticing that the two are getting railed up, Krishna decides to step in. "Both of you. Priye loves both of you equally. Her love isn't partial towards anyone. She loves everyone equally."

The words seem to calm both Dau and Subhadra down. The two know that Krishna is saying the truth. Their Mata has never been partial towards anyone.

Just as a blanket of peace falls over Subhadra and Dau's argument, the door to the kitchen opens, and Vasudev walk into the room, gaining everyone's attention.

Vasudev smiles as he takes note of his family all gathered in the kitchen. His eyes lovingly trace his children and then his wives, making him feel elated.

"Arya, aap yahan?" Rohini heeds her husband in the kitchen. [Arya, what are you doing here?]

Vasudev nods his head, acknowledging his older wife, "Yes, Rohini. A dasi informed me that Kanha wanted to have a word with me, so I decided to talk to him."

Turning to Krishna, Mata Devaki and Mata Rohini raise their brows as a way of expressing their confusion. By the looks on Subhadra and Dau's face, it is clear that even they don't know of Kanha's plan.

Narayan knows it is time. Time for him to take a step towards finally reuniting with his Lakshmi. It is time for him to prove his devotion to her. It is time for her to embark on the journey of remembering her true self.

Krishna faces his Pitashree, a soft smile on his face. "Pitashree, I want to visit Adiyogi ji's ashram."

Krishna's words take everyone in the room by surprise except for Subhadra and Balram Dau, who easily catch on to what their Kanha is trying to do.

"It's finally time." Balram Dau whispers to Subhadra, who is currently on cloud nine from hearing him.

Excited, she turns to Balram Dau, gripping his arm tightly, "Even I want to meet her." She tries to whine again, only for Dau to hush her.

Subhadra pouts and the brother-sister duo turn their attention back to Krishna, who is grinning ear to ear. In front of him their parents are still in a shock.

"But, Putra, why do you want to go there suddenly?" Rohini finally breaks free from her shock to question.

Krishna's face morphs into a dreamy look, making everyone curious about his answer, "I want to go to the ashram to meet my Priye."

There it is. Again. For years, everyone in Dwarka has been trying to find out who Kanha's Priye is, but no luck. The only ones that know are Subhadra and Balram, but even they won't talk.

It has heightened everyone's curiosity about who is Kanha's Priye and why he keeps talking about her all the time.

You catch Kanha making makhan, he says it's for his Priye. You catch Kanha smiling to himself, he says it's because of his Priye. You catch Kanha staring at the stars, he says it's because he is missing his Priye.

You catch Kanha playing his bansuri at night, he says it helps his Priye sleep. You catch Kanha collecting all the lotuses from the ponds, he says it's because they are his Priye's favourite.

The answers are endless and all circle around his Priye which doesn't help because they don't know who she is. They can try and guess but Krishna debunks them all the time.

"Kanha. Will I ever get to meet your Priye?" Devaki finally questions, exasperated from trying to get him to tell her who Priye is.

All she gets is a nod from Krishna, "Of course you will, Mata. Everyone in Dwarka will soon meet my Priye. And when you do, you will understand why she is my Priye."

"So you want to go to Adiyogi ji's ashram to meet your Priye?" Vasudev sums up all of his son's demand in a sentence, making it easier to understand.

Krishna nods enthusiastically and his eyes begin to shine brightly, his face switches to a similar one that Subhadra uses to get what she wants from Kanha.

"Pitashree, please let me go. I want to meet my Priye. It's been so long. I promise I won't steal anymore makhan from this kitchen if you let me go." Krishna cunningly uses a loophole to convince his father.

Vasudev glances at his son for a few minutes, and then towards Devaki and Rohini. His eyes ask for their permission to let Kanha go and when they finally accept, he turns to his son.

"Okay, you can go. Now stop with that face, and take Balram with you."

Without wasting a second, Krishna hugs his father, before bolting out of the kitchen. Balram Dau and Subhadra waste no time in following their brother, leaving a set of confused parents.

"I am coming, Priye."
