SOFIA HOLLOWAY looked at her cousin as she tilted her head to give her opinion on the outfit. "That one's great."
Peyton was supposed to meet with Hazel in an hour for their date and she had asked Sofia to come over to advise her because she didn't know how to dress. They had finally opted for a purple dress and white converse. Peyton went to sit in front of her mirror to do her hair while her cousin watched her.
"You look stressed."
Peyton shook her head. "I am not."
"If you say so." Sofia replied.
She knew she was stressed. Sofia was the person who knew Peyton best. Even though they didn't have the same friends or social status at school, they were as close as could be, actually considering each other more like twin sisters than cousins.
"You know, you look happier with Hazel than you looked when you were with Allan." she commented as she sat on Peyton's bed.
"Do I?" the girl replied as her cheeks blushed sightly.
"Yes. You guys look cute together. And Hazel really looks after you. I know, Allan wasn't really the best for that." Sofia approached her cousin and their eyes met through the mirror as she smiled. "I am very happy for you. I really am."
"Thanks, Sof."
"Okay, I'll let you get ready, yeah? Call me later?"
"Obviously." Peyton replied, smiling.
Sofia leaned over to hug her. "Love you."
"Love you too."
Her cousin walked out of the room and Peyton finished brushing her hair. As she finished putting on her makeup, her mother came into the room. The blonde turned to her with a curious gaze and the woman smiled softly.
"I wanted to talk to you about something."
Peyton frowned in worry. That sentence was never good. Her mother sat on the edge of her bed as the teen was looking at her, waiting for her to speak. "Sof told me you had a date."
"Oh." Peyton sighed in relief. She was scared something bad happened. "Yeah."
"With who?"
"Hazel Callahan. I don't think you know her." she replied.
Her mother smiled. "I don't think so. But I'd love too. Tell her she can come over for dinner anytime."
"Oh. I'll tell her, thanks, mom."

Hazel left her house when she received the message from Peyton saying she was out front. The brunette didn't have a car, so it was the Holloway girl who came to pick her up to take them to the drive-in. Hazel got into the car with a big smile. She had a bruise on her cheekbone from training earlier, just like Peyton had a bruise next to her eye. But when they looked at each other none of them seemed to pay attention to it.
"Hi." the blonde girl smiled when Hazel sat next to her.
"Hello!" the Callahan girl exclaimed with a genuine smile before she looked at the driver. "You look pretty."
The compliment warmed Peyton's heart.
"Thank you, so do you." she replied.
Hazel looked absolutely gorgeous. As always.
Peyton started the car and they drove off. "Oh, by the way, my mom kind of wants to meet you and said you should come have dinner sometime." the blonde said when she stopped at a red light. "I'm sorry, you don't need to do it, I can just tell her you're busy or whatever."
"No, I don't mind." Hazel smiled. "I would like to meet your mom."
Peyton turned her head to look at her. "Are you sure? I don't want you to feel like you have to do it or something."
"No, really, I don't mind." Hazel said again.
Peyton smiled. "Okay, then."
The car behind them honked and the Holloway girl realized the light had turned green. "Oh! Sorry!" she exclaimed, raising her hand up in apology, gesturing to the car behind.
Hazel chuckled as Peyton pressed the gas pedal. The blonde parked the car at the drive-in a few minutes later and looked at her watch.
"We have half an hour before the movie starts. Do you want to go grab something to eat?"
Hazel nodded. "Sure."
The two girls got out of the car and walked towards the food stall at the entrance of the drive-in. They bought hot dogs and lemonades before going to sit on the hood of Peyton's car. The blonde took her camera out of her bag.
"Can I take a picture of you?" she asked Hazel.
The Callahan girl's eyes widened in confusion. "Of me? Why would you take a picture of me?"
"I don't know, I like taking pictures of beautiful things." Peyton replied.
"You think I'm beautiful?" Hazel asked.
Peyton looked at her with amusement. "No, I know you are. Like, it's a fact."
The brunette ran an hand through her hair and looked away as she blushed. Peyton gave her an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to embarass you."
"No, it's okay. I'm just not used to people giving me compliments."
"That's a shame. You should hear that everyday." Peyton replied and a genuine smile came on Hazel's lips.
Peyton raised her camera and took the picture. She smirked at the short-haired girl before looking at the picture she just took. She smiled and came closer to show it to Hazel. "Look. You're so pretty."
The blonde didn't notice it but instead of looking at the camera, Hazel was staring at her. She finally turned her eyes to the camera. "It's a really good picture."
"Thank you. You know, a woman called me last week to say she had seen some of my pictures." Peyton said, putting away her camera. "She said she's doing an exhibition in a month and she would like me to participate."
"For real? It's so cool, congrats!" Hazel exclaimed.
"Yes, but she wants me to, like, denounce something in my pictures. I take pictures of everything. I like the fact that people can see through my eyes, and just have lots of memories afterwards. But I've never tried to denounce anything through my art."
"Maybe you could do something with the club? I mean, we started it to fight against some creepy guys, that must be something." Hazel suggested.
Peyton tilted her head. "That is actually not a bad idea."
Hazel smiled and offered to help her with her project, which the blonde happily accepted. The two girls continued talking until the start of the film and even after that, their smiles did not leave them for a single time.
