it had been a little over a week since her single had come out and iris had underestimated how much people would like it. with how her previous stuff had done, she expected it to do fairly well, generate a little bit of hype, but nothing groundbreaking. definitely not for it to go number 1 on the uk charts, to generate over 1 million streams in its first 24 hours, to get her verified.

she was genuinely so happy that people liked it. that was all she really wanted, for people to connect with the song. she couldn't believe that something she had done had any sort of impact on anyone. so, when she got the news that she had entered the top 10 on the billboard charts, she'd done something a little bit stupid.

she'd been sitting at her desk, checking her email when she'd seen it. ranboo had been sitting on her bed, on his laptop also working. iris had let out a noise so loud that it had caused ranboo to almost fall of her bed. "are you okay?"

she hadn't answered, instead jumping out of her chair. iris wasn't particularly fast, she got winded easily, it had been something she'd needed to start working on with her management calling for her to start holding concerts. this time, though, she didn't care.

she was down the stairs, across the street, and knocking on tommy's front door. his dad opened it and, after offering him as polite of a greeting as she could with how excited she was, made her way up the stairs of the simons household. ranboo had just reached her front door.

tommy pulled out one of his headphones, hearing the frantic knocking. he wasn't streaming, but he was due to start in a couple of minutes. "yeah?"

iris flung open the door, smile on her face. "i'm charting!"

tommy was out of his chair before she could even finish the words. "you're serious? oh my god, holy shit! i'm so proud of you!"

"can i kiss you?"

"uh..." tommy thought he would've said something slightly more intelligent than that if iris ever asked to kiss him, but no. "sure."

she took it in stride, though. her hands delving straight into his hair as she pulled him closer to herself. tommy's hand came to grip her wrist as she pressed her lips to his. he could feel the curve of her smile as she kissed him, and suddenly things like oxygen and the fact that someone was knocking at the door became irrelevant. iris pulled away, suddenly aware of her own burst of confidence.

"i'm sorry, i shou-"

"do it again."

when he asked like that, she couldn't bear to say no.

iriside i got my license!! that day turned out to be pretty shit in general lmao for a variety of reasons but i passed my test AND that day was the first time i was ever trending on twitter (which has happened THREE TIMES NOW???? you're all nuts). also after i took my test i got this absolutely incredible donut. it's important to me that you all know that.

iriside this was the day that i met 2 of the people who would go on to become some of my best friends in the entire world. @tubbolive has a very comfy bed. that is all i will say on the matter.

iriside i started taking poetry classes!! a big part of my songwriting has always been lyricism, i think it's so important to making a song that can connect with people and i wanted to learn how to do that more effectively!! i've met some of my closest friends in this class and even though it's over now, i still have regular writing sessions with them!

iriside   i took this photo after i wrote my first song of this year. i hadn't written in a couple of months, there was a huge mental block around writing. i went out of my house for the first couple of months after a period of lockdown, i went to the beach and sat there for a few hours. by the time i was done i had my first song in ages, it was called 'more' have some bonus lyrics <3

iriside this was taken the day i met my producer and good friend james!! we met through a mutual friend and hit it off immediately through our shared love of music. james helped me experiment with my sound, up until that point i had mostly written sad ballads on my piano but @jamesmarriottyt has become one of my greatest musical influences, and i'm so excited for you to hear that in my future tracks!!

iriside and this photo was from today!! i am sitting in this position, in this outfit. today i submitted my album to umg. me and james have worked SO hard on this record and i haven't even shared it with my closest friends, because i am so excited for you guys to hear the full thing. it's a lot different from my usual stuff, but james has assured me that it is 'astronomically iris' so do with that what you will. thank you guys for everything, i appreciate it more than i can ever put into words.
