3. one to one
UPDATE IS HERE! ❤️
It's has been a week since the day.
And it was totally upside down for the two.
"Aguaaaya!" Ved greeted his uncle, as soon as the star cricketer was down for breakfast.
"Good morning to you too, Ved." Shub managed a small smile.
Shahneel gave him a look, "You didn't sleep last night, again, did you?"
"Is that even a question? Everything is upside down. Sleep is a fair away topic now. Thought I would have the holidays spent well, but-"
Shub sat down and took a plate without completing the sentence.
"Best things happen unexpectedly." His sister tried to reason, "The final decision rests upon you and her only, Shub."
"You yourself know your last sentence is a lie."
Shub rolled his eyes.
"Have your breakfast first. Rest can wait."
Keart's voice trailed off.
"Where are you lost, you idiot? Why you didn't defend me against Shrey Bhai's allegations of stealing his hoodie then? And it's been exactly a week you're distant and behaving weird!"
Ishan literally blasted Shub's eardrums over the group video call.
"Yes, Shubi. You look lost. What happened?" Abhiskek asked.
"Uhm woh... nothing." Shub replied, hastily, "Nothing happened guys."
"That means something has really happened. What?"
" Am getting married probably."
" Next joke please." Abhay rolled his eyes.
"Shubi, this is August. Not April." Ishan chided.
The two would have said some nonsense further but Shubman's serious face made them pause and have a double take.
"Shaadi aur tu? What why when?"
"What the hell, Shubi? You're telling it just now?"
"Who is that unlucky girl?" Ishan asked.
"Sia."
The bomb was dropped.
"SIA? HUMARI SIA? SIA AHUJA? TERI SO CALLED JAANI DUSHMAN?"
Ishan exclaimed, dramatically, waving his hands in the air.
Exasperated, Shubman narrated the whole thing to his bestfriends.
"My 5000!" Abhiskek groaned, although inside, he was happy. His ship gonna sail!
"What 5000?" Shub raised his brows.
"Uhm nothing, nothing. Tu yeh bata what you gonna say?"
Sia was watching Sita Ramam with her cousin, Anya, when her phone rang, and as the table was near the cousin, Anya picked it up.
"Hi, Jiju!"
"Jiju?" Shubman's eyes were wide.
*What the f-? Jiju?" Sia sprang up.
"What? The Shubman Gill is my Jiju only, right? Marrying my cousin, my Di!" Anya was nonchalant.
"Not yet." Sia glared and snatched the phone, making Anya smirk, "Not interesting being Kabab mein Haddi so bye!"
Shub and Sia rolled their eyes internally.
"Yes, Shubman." Sia pressed the phone against her ear.
"Hi, Sia.Free ho?"
"Uhm yeah. Kyun?"
"Can we have a talk today?"
She exhaled a sigh, "Sure, in the evening. Just text me the details. And, I'll come alone."
"6 pm, then. Zoca Cafe. Take a mask or something, or a stole. I'll text you the exact location."
"Okay."
Shub sat at the extreme corner table and constantly checked the time.
When is she going to arrive?
Is he that early?
In the fading daylight, he sat, looking at the evening sky, in the almost empty cafe.
He purposefully chose the off beat location, ideal for some isolated talk and privacy. He was a regular customer here, and the owners, a middle aged couple, totally knowing who he is, were sweet enough to get the young man enough comfort and alone time.
"Is everything fine, son?" Amar asked their favorite customer, favorite not for his stardom or play, but for his ambient nature and heartwarming smile.
"Uhm yeah Uncle. Just waiting here for someone."
A warm smile spread on the elder man's lips.
He understood.
The bell rang, announcing the arrival of people in the cafe.
Shubman looked up to meet the apologizing face of her.
Sia was late, thanks to the sudden traffic on the streets of Mohali.
"Am sorry...am so sorry for being late!"
"Have your seat, Sia. It's fine."
Amar took the cue and went away, to his wife, who was grinding coffee beans, and had eye talk with her about their favorite guy.
This was one of the most calm, proper sentence of Shub, directed towards her.
Sia nodded and took the seat opposite to his.
It was all silent for a while, something unusual between the two.
Shubman cleared his throat and asked," What would you like to have?"
"Cappuccino?" Sia replied, unsure. She was too jumbled up.
"Wait a second." Shubman said and getting up, went to the counter, to order her favourite coffee.
Wondering how he knows that, we'll, he knows a lot. Even her favorite Chanel perfume.
Such a quite, calm place. How did someone too chaotic and frenzy like him got hold of this place?
Such a confusing man.
Sia thought.
"Did you decide anything, Shubman?"
"You'll have to say the NO from both of us, Sia. I can't. The trump card is against me. I haven't denied anything to Dadaji, heck he never asked anything from me. How can I disregard his wish?" Shub spoke like a robot, making it crystal clear to her that he has literally revised it like another one of his monotonous dialogues in brand endorsements.
"Am in the same situation too, Shubman. Even though there's two weeks more for us to say our decision, but we both know we can't say no."
Shub exhaled a sigh.
"I really don't know what our parents saw in us. Why almost everyone wants us together. You didn't speak to me with softness ever."
"As if you were meek! You're no less! And I always argue back at what you start, Gill."
A chuckle left his lips.
The order has arrived, in the meantime.
"Did you ever think we'll tie the knot someday? That you'll settle down with you enemy?" She asked her, but it sounded as if she's asking her inner self.
He remained silent and spoke up after a long pause, "We have to negotiate."
"Is this going the dramatic way? Tum apne raaste main apne raaste, under the same roof?" She literally choked on the Machiato.
"Socho waisa hi?" Her response left a ghostly smile on his lips.
They were so lost in talking that they were totally oblivious to them being clicked.
