'As pretty as a twilight,
As brave as a knight,
As pure as a dew drop,
which entered an oyster to form a pearl.
Blessed are we to be your oyster,
and you our pearl'
A contented smile spread on Naina's face as she penned down a quote in her dairy. Seated in her office cabin, she was busy winding up her work for the next two days, as they were going to head to Ahmedabad their hometown. Years of living in Mumbai had fullfilled all their dreams one by one, making them stable in their career front, establishing a successful production house, living a lifestyle they always dreamt of. Still, when it came to celebrations, they always preferred their first home, Krishna Kaustubhi in Ahmedabad, and tomorrow is the most percious occasion of their life, the birthday of their little angel Suman.
Sameer had already headed back home to decorate their flat. For him, everything else took a back seat when it came to Suman. She chuckled recalling his exuberance. He is always the most excited person on their angel's birthday. Though he wanted to set up an elaborate arrangement in a resort for the celebration similar to the one they had done on her first birthday, Naina had strictly refused to make any large scale arrangement. She wanted to arrange a merry event including only family and friends. Where they can spend most of the time with their daughter and not get busy in attending the guests. They had planned a mini celebration at night with their society members who are more than just neighbours and then take a morning flight to Ahmedabad to celebrate with their family.
Naina went to pick some gifts on her way back home. The moment she twisted the nobe, Sameer screamed from inside, which stopped her from pushing the door open. She waited, knocking the door curiously "Kya kar rahe ho Sameer, kholo na, kabse bahar khadi hu."
"Bas do minute aur..." this was his reply from the last fifteen minutes.
She rolled her eyes "Dekho abhi tumne darwaza nahi khola na, toh..."
Sameer quickly jumped down from the stool dragging it away from the door. Naina gasped as the door flung open revealing her dear husband in his weirdest state. A couple of boas and several creepers around his neck, arms had cellotape cut outs, one hand had a box gods knows containing what, and other one holding a bunch of balloons.
"Khade khade so gayi kya, gharpe itna kaam pada hai, aur tum aaramse office mai baiti thi." Irritatedly, he dragged her in and shut the door. Aditya called out diverting her attention from Sameer. "Sameer double tape le aana... aur yaha pe konse rang ke balloons lagane hai?"
He looked up and said "Blue... border pe light blue aur white lagana hai aur center mai baby pink."
"Ye sab kya hai sameer maine kaha tha na ham simple celebration karenge tumne tho pura hall ka huliya hi badal diya." She sneered, glaring at him.
"Arre meri beti ka birthday hai aur mai thoda sa decoration bhi na karu." He retorted back.
"Ye sab thoda sa hai?" She placed her hands on her waist looking around, all furnitures had been removed except the show case, dinning chairs was placed linear to the walls, the center of the room had a pink coloured canopy tent based with small mattress, star lights hanging from the roof making the structure glow. It had a short glass table covered with satin cloth, surrounded by gift boxes. The normal lighting had been changed to dim lights filling the room with a soft glow and the fairy lights hanging on the windows added twinkling effect. The walls were lined with feather boas, and the main wall had a big happy birthday banner, the ceiling was covered with balloons with creeper strings attached to them and lastly a man sized blown out structure of Tom and Jerry was starting at her placed against the wall. The room looked like a lush party hall and sameer called this 'thoda sa'.
"Sirf ek raat liye itna sajavat kon karta hai sameer" she gave him a weary look.
"Itna bhi kuch nahi hai Naina, Papaji toh ek hafte se Ahmedabad jake baite hai, pata nahi kya kya kiya hoga, uske hisaab se yaha kuch toh hona chaiye na, warna Suman ko lagega uske Nanu uske Papa se zyada aache hain."
And there it comes the sasur damaad banter, right from the day Suman had entered their lives, the duo seemed to be competing to win Suman's favourite title. Though suman loved both of them equally but the elders of this house are turning out to become kids day by day.
"Aap dono pagal bana doge kisi din mujhe, bacho ke bhi itne nakhre nahi hain jitna tum karte ho, bichari suman meri tarah wo bhi phas gayi aap dono ke bich mein."
"Oh hello, phas gayi ka kya matlab, Suman sabse zyada pyaar karti hai apne Papa se."
"Kya matlab hai tumhara, sirf tumse pyaar karti hai? Mujhse nahi?" Naina glared at him, making him gulp.
"Arre tum dono firse shuru mat hojao... apun ki bhatiji ka birthday hai, dekhna kaise dhamaal karenge party mein." Aditya diverted the topic.
She sighed, there was no point in arguing with him, that's when she realised the main person of the day was missing in the scene. The house was filled goodies and Suman not jumping around her dad was not expected, "Suman Preeti ke ghar gayi hai kya?"
"Nahi, maine jaldi sula diya usse, warna party mai nind ayegi na."
"Acha hai, kuch to dhang ka kaam kiya kud kud Kumar ne." She murmured.
"Kuch kaha tumne?" Sameer narrowed his eyes.
She shook her head and walked to their room where Suman was sleeping peacefully. She caressed her hair, imagining her reaction when she'll wake up. She looked at the clock, there was still much more time to 12. She got up and pulled out a suitcase to pack for the next day.
Sameer was done with all the decoration, Aditya had gone home to take some rest. He gave a satisfied smile looking around and picked the cordless to call Munna to ask about the arrangements there, but Munna had no clue about it, "Bhai tere sasurji ghar mein jane hi nahi de rahe, keh rahe the sari taiyari wo khud kar lenge. Hume seedha party wale din dekhne ko milega." He complained.
"Kya Munna, ek kaam to diya tha tujhe, wo bhi nahi hua, pata nahi Papaji ne kya kiya hoga, unhe na Ahmedabad bhejna hi nahi chahiye tha." He frowned, wondering what his father in law is upto.
"Yaar Rakesh Sir birthday party mein jagraate wali sajawat na kardein." Munna voiced worriedly.
"Nahi yaar, Papaji ko Suman ko samne hero banne ka bohot shounk hai, kuch acha hi kiya hoga. Suman ko yaha wali party achi to lagegi na?"
"Arre bohot aacha lagega Suman ko. Use pata hai uske Papa sabse best hai. Tu chinta mat kar, main aur Pandit kuch jugad karte hain. Aaj raat ko divaar koodke ya taala todke, kaise bhi karke andar jayenge, hum bhi to dekhein aisa kya kiya hai Safari Suit ne."
"Thik hai, lekin sambhal ke, pakde gaye to pitai ho jayegi"
"Kiski pitai ho rahi hai?" Naina voiced from behind, made him jump. He quickly cut the call, giving her a sheepish smile "Main bas Munna se... kuch nahi hum aise hi baat kar rahe the."
She didn't probe further and moved to the kitchen and called out in a tensed tone. He rushed in "Chilla kyu rahi ho, Suman uth jayegi."
"Cake kahan hai?" She asked him impatiently.
"Konsa cake..." He cluelessly asked.
"Suman ka birthday cake Sameer? Tum lane wale the na..."
He gasped in shocked. Admist all the excitement of decoration, it had totally slipped his mind to bring the cake.
Naina gave him an exasperated look "Itna sab kar liya lekin jo sabse important chiz hai, jo main hai, wo bhul gaye. Mujhe pata hota to main le aati aate waqt. Abhi kya karenge... humari bachi badi ho rahi hai lekin tumhara bachpana kabhi nahi jayega, buddhu hi rahoge hamesha." She ran in to take her purse and rushed outside.
"Naina tum ruko, main le aata hu, tum Suman ko ready kar do, sab aate hi honge. Main barah baje se pehle aa jaunga." He immediately changed his shirt and sprinted out to get the cake.
Naina dressed up her sleeping kid, she didn't want her to wake up before Sameer's arrival.
Their freinds had started arriving and sameer had still not returned. She could hear Preeti's excited voice, Naina quickly clasped her mouth indicating sleeping Suman. Preeti removed her hand "Yaar utha dena. Barah bajne wale hai, aur Jiju kahan hain?"
Naina exhaled, "Wo cake lene gaya hai... aur mai nahi chahti ye Sameer ke aane se pehle uthe, hum saath mein wish karenge."
Preeti gave her a shocked look, "Itni raat ko kahan milega cake, shaam ko hi le aate na..."
"Sameer bhul gaya tha, agar main fridge nahi dekhti to shayad cake ke bina hi party karte."
"Kamaal hai, itna sab kuch kiya aur cake bhul gaye, kal ki taiyari hogayi na? Warna last moment pe sab bhaag daud kar karna padega."
"Haan sab hogayi... meri bhi galti hai yaar, subah se sab kaam akele kar raha hai, mujhe bhi aaj leave lena chahiye tha office se."
"Koi nahi, aa jayenge Jiju, tu chinta mat kar." Preeti patted her arm and moved out, to inform everyone to stay quiet at the strike of twelve. Naina restlessly paced near the door, there were just 5 minutes left, "Kahan reh gaye Sameer jaldi aajao..."
The clock let out a sound at the strike of 12 and everyone was eagerly waiting for Sameer. She was about to go out and check but he reached, almost banging into her with the cake box. Both let out a relieved breath looking at each other.
Subham took the cake box and urged them to wake the birthday girl up. Sameer carefully picked her up and gave a little shake disturbing her sleep. Suman stirred shrinking her eyes, then she heard loud voices of her parents jolting her out of sleep. "Happy birthday Angel" They wished together, squeezing her in a tight hug.
She squealed, the much awaited special day had arrived. Naina picked her up kissing her cheeks. Sameer looped his arms around them. Suman looked around, she was still in their room, she cranked her neck to look at sameer "Papa, Nanu ke pass kab jayenge?"
Naina controlled her laughter looking at sameer's forlorn face and cupped her cheek "Nanu ke pass subah jana hai, abhi to yahan wale freinds ke saath party karenge na."
Suman beamed, but before she could speak Sameer grumbled, "Aapko Nanu ke pass kyu jana hai? Papa hai na yahan, mere saath acha nahi lagta?"
"No no, aap to mere favourite ho, Nanu mere bore ho jayenge na, isliye pucha."
"Acha, to sirf Papa favourite hain, Nanu nahi?" Naina mischievously probed further, earning a glare from Sameer.
Suman pulled Sameer down kissing his cheek, "Ye mere favourite Papa, Nanu mere favourite Nanu, aur aap meri favourite Mumma." She turned to kiss Naina.
They chuckled at her answer, she very well knows how to please everyone. Sameer kissed her head, "Aur aap hum sabki favourite ho."
Naina tickled her, making her break into laughter, "Kitna makhan lagati ho tum badmash."
Tanvi entered in and smiled, "Aap log aapas mein masti kar rahe ho, hum kab se wait kar rahe hai."
She scooped her up with Aditya, "Happy birthday Suman."
Aditya twirled her around, walking out, followed by Sameer and Naina. Suman hopped around giving an amused look to all the decorations with everyone gushing over the birthday girl. Naina lopped her hands over his arm with a graceful smile, Suman's beaming smile was worth all the effort he had done.
Soon they were ushered to cut the cake and they enjoyed the party, playing games with the little girl.
Next morning, the trio along with Preeti, Shubham and Harsh had to board their flight to Ahmedabad. The Maheshwaris had a rushed morning. Sameer was of no help when he was with Suman and Naina had to run around both her kids making them get ready. Finally, they locked the door, ready to go. Suman excitedly looked at the stairs and said "Papa! Race." And before Naina could say something, both were sprinting down, while Naina groaned, dragging the suitcase into the lift. She was waiting with Preeti for the father-daughter to reach, and the moment she was down, Harsh screamed running to her "Happy birthday chotu."
"Mai chotu nahi hu, mai big girl hu." Suman fretted.
"Nahi, tu chotu hi hai, dekh main zyada tall hu" He touched their arms showing his height.
She whined looking at Sameer "Arre abhi koi ladai nahi, Ahmedabad jane tak dono good boy, good girl banke rehna okay?" He raised his thumbs looking at both of them and they beamed gripped his hands on either side hopping and singing "Nani ke ghar jayenge, dudh malai khayenge."
The journey was filled with fun and frolic with Sameer narrating Naina's first flight journey much to her irritation.
It was mid afternoon by the time they reached Ahmedabad and headed home taking a cab. Sameer was rubbing his hands in excitement, eager to know what Papaji had done, while Suman and Naina were making plans of what all they will do with her Nana- Nani.
Sameer pulled Naina closer, whispering "Jab main aur Suman ghar ke andar jayenge, tab tum suru se sab recording karna uska kya reaction hoga sabko dekh ke, ek ek chiz."
"Mai kyu karu tum karo. Humesha sare videos mein tum dono hi hote ho, aaj main Suman ko leke jaungi aur tum camera sambhalo" she declared firmly.
"Naina ye kya baat huyi, aaj pehli baar hai jab hum Ahmedabad wale ghar mein birthday manayenge, ye sab record kiya to hi to wo dekh payegi jab badi hojayegi"
"Haan aur sabse acha camera tum karte ho to tum sambhalo main nahi."
"Arre lekin Suman mere saath aayegi main kaise karunga."
"Maine kaha na Suman mere saath aayegi aur itna tham jham kiya ek camera man nahi bula sakte the."
"Tum har chiz last moment mein kyu yaad dilati ho."
"Aur tum humesha bhul kyu jate ho"
Immersed in their argument, they failed to notice that they had already reached home and Suman opened the door and hoped in. She ran squealing at her Nanu. Samaina jerked as they heard Papaji's voice "Aa gayi meri gudiya, dekho Nanu ne kya laya hai tumare liye."
They both sat gaping at the scene as the duo disappeared to the garden at the backside. Naina pursed her lips with a knowing smile while sameer hit his forehead.
"Bhai wapas jane ka irada hai kya, kabse gadi mein baithe ho." Pandit peered at both of them. They both got down the car walking to the garden. Naina flinched when suddenly a huge structure appeared in front of her. While Sameer was looking around in awe. The whole garden was set up in Disney theme, with few men dressed up as Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy.
Suman came running to them "Mumma Papa, dekho Nanu Miickey ko le aaye mere liye." Suman and harsh was jumping around playing with their favourite cartoons characters.
Soon all their family members arrived and the cake was placed. The loud party poppers dragged Suman's attention to the center state, where her parents were waiting with open arms. She beamed, running to them and together they blew out the candles and cut the cake with loud cheers wishing 'Happy Birthday Suman'
The competition was long forgotten as the smile on that innocent soul's face was worth a thousand various preparations.
Today, as we at FamiliaDeYUDKBH come forward to celebrate the birthday of the most special member of YUDKBH, Kiara Bhanushali, our lovely Suman, we wish her an eternity of love and blessings from all the fans she got for herself at such a tender age.
