"Sarbans Dani", a popular name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, literally means "the one who has sacrificed everything", and that is what the tenth guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh Ji did.
Starting from sacrificing his father's life, to his home, his hometown, his people, his sons, his mother, his wives, and then ultimately himself; since childhood he had been sacrificing all the important parts of his life, solely to protect and promote humanity and righteousness. And hence named, Sarbans Dani.
Apart from this, he is also called as Dasam Pita (the tenth father or the tenth Guru of Sikhs), Kalgidhar/Kalgian Wale (because he used to wear a kalgi on his turban), Baaja Wale (because he used to have a hawk as his pet which always stayed with him), and numerous more names because that's how his personality was. Infinite praises would also be less to appreciate each and every trait of his, be it his looks, or his heart.
"Chirian te main baaz tudaun,
Gidran to main sher banau,
Sawa lakh se ek ladau,
Tabhe Gobind Singh naam kahau."
This very famous quote by Guru Gobind Singh Ji literally means-
"I make hawks out of birds,
I make lions out of wolves,
I make one fight with a hundred lakhs,
And it is then, that I am called Gobind Singh."
Well, that's truly what Guru Gobind Singh Ji had done. He believed in inner strength and not what one appears to look from outside. He believed, that no matter how weak one looks from outside, it is only the self belief and self esteem that makes one stronger than the opposite side. He always made his disciples, his Singhs, capable enough, that even one Singh was capable of fighting a thousand, which was even proved, when his own elder sons killed hundreds of Mughal soldiers even in a brutally wounded state. He had made his Sikhs capable of winning a war, even if they had to fight with armies almost double their number.
Every year his birth anniversary is celebrated with full zeal and zest, and it is all worldwide. Nagar Kirtan (religious procession), Langar, Shabads, Gatka (martial art), all of these are a part of the celebrations of Gurpurab.
With this come the Gurpurab wishes from both the admins RRao_13 & Psr1403
Wishing the whole family of Yeh Un Dino Ki Baat Hai, a very Happy Gurpurab.
May the light of the sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, instill in us, the value of righteousness, positivity, humanity and morals.
On the 13th of April, with the onset of Baisakhi, Guru Gobind Singh Ji had founded the Sikhism, the Khalsa Panth, which is now the fifth largest religion in the world. He did so, by baptizing 5 Sikhs (who are known as Panj Pyare), who were the most fearless and the most trustworthy. With that, he established the 5 kakaars of a Gursikh which include:
โ Kes (full hair, i.e. a Sikh would never cut his/her hair from any part of the body)
โ Kanga (a small comb, which a baptized Sikh is required to carry with him/her, which signifies that just like a comb is helpful in sorting out tangled hair, similarly this comb would signify that Sikhs have to sort out all the problems of any person who comes to them, irrespective of age, sex, colour, religion.
โ Kada (a permanant bangle in the hand, this would always keep you in control and when you are wearing this bangle, you know that you don't have to perform any ill practice, i.e. this bangle would act as a fetter which would prohibit you from doing any ill work.)
โ Kirpan (a small sword, for the protection of oneself as well as of the weak)
โ Kachhera (an undergarment, symbolises the chastity of a sikh, it reminds the sikh of being faithful, it signifies a unity with God and loyalty towards married life and faithfulness to the person you accept as your partner)
He was the one, who made sure that a wounded soldier, no matter even if he belongs to the enemy force, recieves medical treatment. He believed, that while fighting in a war, every person from the enemy clan is our enemy, but when that enemy is lying wounded in the battlefield, he is just another human being who requires help, and that it was the responsibility of all other humans to help that person, even if the wounded one was to be fatal for us. Such was his approach towards humanity.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji, known as the founder of Sikhism, gave all the Sikhs a permanent second name- "Singh" for males and "Kaur" for females. "Singh" literally means "lion", and Guru Gobind Singh Ji believed that within each and every Sikh, resides a lion, which would not just symbolise strength, but also give all the Sikhs a common identity, that they belong to one group, which is made to serve the humanity. But, if we talk about "Kaur", it is precisely not just the second but even the last name of a Sikh female. Since ages, we have seen this one culture being passed on that a woman has to change her surname after marriage. This clearly means that a woman's identity would depend either on her father or on her husband, whereas for males, the surname never changes. And this unjust culture was not acceptable to Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Hence, he gave the female Sikhs their own specific identity, Kaur, and in lieu to this, Sikh females neither put their father's surname after their name, nor they use their husband's surname. According to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, females don't need someone else's surname for their identification. They have their own identity and their own name which doesn't need to be changed in any case. "Kaur" literally means a "warrior princess" and that's what Guruji made the Sikh females. In the Sikh armies of earlier times, women have played a very prominent role as they were always kept at par with the men. All the activities and jobs and wars which the Sikh males fought, equally involved women, and women were equally taught the art of gatka, i.e. martial arts.
Here comes a wish from the only Sikh member, the only Kaur of this community pahul_gpk.
Courageous he was, that he saw his elder sons sacrificing their lives in the battlefield for humanity, just infront of his eyes. People crave to have sons that they even create sons out of stones, and then there was he, whose younger sons got themselves buried alive in the brick walls, just to fight against injustice.
Such was he, and such were his sons.
Happiest Gurpurab to each one out here, and I am sure most of you would be reading about all of this for the first time. So, Guru Gobind Singh Ji de janam dihaade di aap sabku lakh lakh vadhai howe.
Well, this translates to "Many many congratulations on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's birthday."
Maybe, this is for the first time that I am writing such a big wish, and that's probably because I am just so proud of myself being a Sikh, that I couldn't resist myself to write it all here. Since the times I have got the ability to under things, I have heard and read the kind of sacrifices we Sikhs have always made for the protection of humanity, of other religions and against injustice. Now that whenever I open some or the other shabad video on YouTube and read the comments from Hindus that they are very obliged that the Sikh Gurus went forward to protect Hinduism, or that they cannot repay what all our Sikh Gurus have sacrificed for their protection; I feel so so blessed and proud that at last, those sacrifices by our Gurus didn't go waste at all. There are people who acknowledge them, and that's what is needed.
I can go on and on because my religion is something I am so proud of. So, I'll wind it up here. But before that, I would like to say one thing. Without proper knowledge of what the true story is, many of you very easily make fun of Sikhs by the sentence "Inke 12 baj gaye". Do you guys even have the slightest of idea that why is this 12.00 so prominent in identifying Sikhs?
Years ago during the Mughal rule, people used to abduct Hindu girls and women to do all inappropriate things with them. It was then, that Sikhs had decided to rescue them all. At sharp 12.00 am, Sikh soldiers, both male and female, used to attack those cruel people and bring all the girls and ladies safe and sound out of the holds of the heartless beasts. So next time you use this sentence to joke around, just remember one thing that had the clocks of Sikhs not struck 12, hundreds of Hindu women would have lost their bodies and themselves to the hands of so many abducters.
Happy Gurpurab everyone.
