They pulled into the dirt lot of a food truck that was near the beach. Zenna pulled her helmet off and set it on the bike, enjoying the sounds of the crashing waves in the ocean. "You just randomly know where food trucks are located?" Han asks, setting down his helmet as he follows her to the truck. Zenna chuckles, taking his hand in her own. "No, but this was one of my mom's favorite places to eat. She loved it because it was right next to the ocean. We used to go down there and just talk, enjoying the peace that came with the waves."
Zenna pulled him over to the truck and tapped on the window. "Just a second!" The woman spoke in Portuguese. She walked over to the window and let out a gasp, covering her hands over her mouth. "Zenna? Oh my gosh, you're so grown up!" Zenna grinned, the woman moving to grab Zenna's free hand. "Hi, Ana. It's been a long time," Zenna spoke in Portuguese, smiling softly at the woman. Han furrowed his brows for a slight second, having no clue that Zenna spoke Portuguese. But, it made sense considering the time she spent in Brazil with her mother.
"It has, indeed. How is your mother?" Ana asked with a small smile. Zenna took an uncomfortable breath, subconsciously gripping Han's hand a bit tighter. "She, uh she passed a few years back. I'm here for a job." She explains. Ana frowned, giving Zenna's hand a comforting squeeze. "I'm so sorry. That must've been so hard. I'm glad you're okay. You look good. Nice and healthy."
Zenna chuckles, Ana always could cheer her up somehow. "Thank you, Ana. You look amazing too. I'm glad the truck is still up and running." Ana took a breath, the smile not leaving her face despite her current situation. "I'm not so sure about that anymore. I might have to close down soon. We're not making enough money to pay off our debt, and the kids want to go to these fancy schools to play football, so we're gonna have to close down and I'll have to start working in the office again."
Zenna frowned, "but what about your restaurant?"
"We had to sell it to pay off the kids tuitions." Ana shrugs. Zenna gave her hand a squeeze, "I'm sorry, that sucks. I know it was your dream." Ana nods, taking a breath, her eyes flicker over to Han. "Well, who is this? He's cute. Is he yours? He looks really...experienced." She smirks, giving Zenna a pointed look. Han chuckles, looking over to Zenna with raised brows.
"Ana!" Zenna groaned but held a smile anyways. "Okay, Ana, this is Han. He's working with me on a job. Han, this is Ana. She was a really good friend of my mom's." She introduces. Ana grinned, moving to shake his hand. "It's so nice to meet you. You treat her good. She always so uptight." Zenna's eyes widened as Han laughs lightly. "I will. It's nice to meet you, too."
Zenna sighed, shaking her head with a smile. "Get us the usual, Ana. And two beers." She placed a hundred in the woman's hand, causing Ana to try and hand it back. "No, I'm not taking your money." Zenna took her hand and pushed it back, "yes, you are. Take it. You deserve it." Ana sighs, taking the money from her. "You are a gift, you remember that." Zenna smiled, remembering that's what her mom always used to say to her. "I will."
Ana quickly got their food and handed it to them. "You two be safe."
Zenna gestured for Han to follow her, in which he obliged, following her down the steps that would lead them towards the quiet beach. They sat down, enjoying the peace that comes with the waves, until Zenna decided to break the silence. "So..you asked what was going on between me and Hobbs. And fair warning, whatever I'm about to say, I'll completely understand if you want to leave. Hell, I will give you my keys and let you run."
Han turns to her, giving her a pointed look. "I don't care what the story is, Z. There's nothing you could say that would make me wanna leave. Unless, you're like an axe murderer or something." Zenna laughs lightly, shaking her head. "No, I'm not an axe murderer. I don't even think I'm capable of killing someone." She denies, getting a relieved exhale from Han. "Good, cause I think I would still stick around even if you were."
"All right, well here goes. I few years back, I was in a really bad place in my life. I was racing every night, and one night, cops showed up looking for one of my racers, so I helped him get away and ended up getting arrested. Hobbs was the one on the case, so he came in for interrogation. We...talked. I mean, he really got to me, cause I gave up the guy. But, we stayed in touch after that. And he was...gosh he was amazing. He understood me, and helped me get back to where I was before my mom died. So naturally, I fell for him. It wasn't love, but it was something."
Zenna took a swing of her beer before going to continue, Han still listening and holding onto her words, not interrupting with judgment. "The next few months went by like a blur, I was still mourning my mom, but he was patient with me. He wasn't bad to me, he was so, so good. Then I thought, it's really good, we're going to be great. We got comfortable with each other. Maybe too comfortable, because he wanted me to meet his daughter. That's when I started to panic." She took another drink and breath, trying to find her words.
"The day came to meet his daughter. We agreed to meet at this pretty cafรฉ. I uh...I never showed up. I got cold feet. I ran. Because that's what I do in relationships. When things get too hard, I bail. I run. I ran from Jessie. I ran from Suki. I ran from Luke. I'm a runner, Han." Zenna forced a smile, taking a drink again before she realized she had emptied it. She pursed her lips, finally meeting his sympathetic eyes. "Nobody sane wants to be with someone who runs when things get hard, Han."
He didn't hesitate with his response. "Then I guess I'm not sane, am I?"
Zenna raised a brow, fighting the smile that tried to form. "You don't want to be with me." Han scoffs under his breath, raising his brows with an "are you kidding me" kind of look. She squint her eyes, "Fine. Name three things you know about me that I haven't told you." Han chuckles, taking a drink from his beer. "If I get all these right, you have to teach me how to do that drift you did to avoid the cameras."
Zenna hums, pretending to think it over. "Okay, deal."
Han smirks, he knew he totally had this in the bag. "Alright. When you're stressed, panicking, or just plain uncomfortable, you grab onto your mom's dog tags. Your favorite color is purple. You like to have a pistol on hand at all times." Zenna goes to talk but he continues, not giving her a chance. "Your favorite hairstyle is that high bun you do because it keeps your hair out of your face. You prefer drift races over regular ones. You love a good pair of heels. And your favorite drink is grape soda. Want me to keep going?"
Zenna let's out a chuckle, shaking her head. He took another sip, holding a cocky smirk on his face. "You learned all of that in the span of three weeks?" She deadpanned.
"No, I learned all of that in two days." He shrugs, the smirk not leaving his lips. She breaks out into a laugh, causing him to laugh along with her. He could not put it onto words about how much he loved her smile. A happy sigh escaped her lips softly, she made the small effort to scoot closer to him. They just gaze into each other's eyes, the tension becoming heavier with each breath. She wanted so bad to kiss him. But she also didn't want to seem like she was rushing into it. The last thing she needed was to scare him off.
"What else do you know about me?" She asks slowly.
A smirk tugged into the corner of his lips as he leaned closer to her face. "For starters, I know that you really wanna kiss me, but you're over-thinking it because you feel like it's gonna scare me off." She just stared, not responding because he was right, and the look in her eyes answered him. "For the record, it's not." Han leaned in, pressing his lips softly against hers. She returned the kiss, reaching her hands to wrap around his neck as he held her jaw gently with his hand.
He was soft and gentle with her, which she absolutely loved. They pulled away for air after a few seconds, she was very much starting to internally freak out. Was this too soon? Too fast? But then she realized, it couldn't have been. Han kissed her, and he understood her. He put in the effort to know her. Not many people would do that unless they cared. So, was it too fast? Hell no. Nothing was ever too fast for a street racer.
Han gently brushed her braids from her face, making her smile. "I want you, Z. I want everything that comes with you. I don't care how you were in the past. I don't care if you're a runner. Nothing is gonna change how much I want you." That was everything she needed to hear to calm her running thoughts. He really knew exactly what to say to her. "I want you too." Zenna chuckles, leaning forward to connect their lips again.
A small gasp escapes her mouth when he effortlessly pulls her into his lap. "She was right, you really are a gift."

Both Han and Zenna exit the car. She had been trying to teach him how to avoid the cameras but so far, it hadn't been working. The only ones who could succeed were herself, Dom, and Brian. "Close, but not enough," Giselle informs. "Dom, the window is too small, man. Only way we're going to beat the cameras is with invisible cars." Han says as Zenna had moved to stand next to Giselle.
"And I know just where to get them." Dom shuts the hood of the car and looks at Brian expectantly. Zenna raised a brow, seeing where he was getting with this. "Let's take a ride, boys."
Zenna walked towards the van, raising her arm, "and women." She adds. Giselle chuckles and follows her, deciding to drive. The boys get in the back, Zenna and Han both up in the front with Giselle who drove them to the back of the police station. She drove them slowly, the guys climbing on the top to hop over the fence. "Don't hurt yourself," Giselle says as Zenna climbs out after Han. "Wouldn't dream of it," she replies.
Zenna climbed down the fence and ran over to the key box, the boys following her. She picked the lock and each handed them a pair of keys. "Hurry up, let's go." She rushed. Zenna ran over to Han's car and climbed into the passenger seat. "This plan has got to be either the stupidest or the smartest," she mutters. Han chuckles, setting a hand on her thigh as he drives out of the lot to meet up with the rest of the guys. "Gotta stop second guessing yourself, Z."
"Have you met me? That's impossible." She retorts.
"It's been a while since I've been behind the wheel of one of these." Brian says, looking down at the equipment in the police car. "First time I've ever been in the front seat," Dom replied as Han and Roman pull up beside him. "Hey, Rome, what took you so long? I thought for sure you'd be showing up with some chrome spinners or something!" Brian jokes with a wide grin.
Roman laughs sarcastically, "real funny."
Zenna chuckles, leaning back in her seat as Roman picks up the loud speaker. "I got a $100,000 that says I can take you all in the next quarter-mile." He proposed. "Yeah, your broke ass has got a hundred grand," Brian retorts. "If we pull off this job, I will. The next two lights. Hundred thousand." Zenna shares a look with Han, it wasn't exactly a bad bet. But Dom would probably win anyways.
"We don't pull this job off, we're probably dead anyway. Let's make it a million." Han says, upping the stakes. Zenna grinned, so glad she wasn't in on this bet. She did not wanna lose a million dollars to one of these guys. "I like that. All right, a million-dollar quarter-mile." Brian agrees. "All right, then." Han adjusts in his seat, tightening the grip on the wheel and her thigh as she smirked.
"You only live once. Let's do it." Roman scoffs, looking at Zenna sitting in Han's car. "Aye, Z. Why you ain't ride with me?" He questioned. Zenna turns her head to look at him, she arched a brow, "and suffer a concussion when you rear end somebody? No thanks." She shrugs off and they all laugh as Roman rolls his eyes from being rejected again.
Brian looks over at Dom. "What do you say, Dom?"
"We talkin' or we racing?" He questioned. "Just don't cheat this time," Brian shoots back. Dom chuckles lightly, "gotta let that go."
They all revved their engines, waiting for the red light to turn green. Typical Roman decides to hit his sirens and step on the gas before it even hits green. They all step on it, Roman getting ahead courtesy of cheating. Han got ahead of Roman, leaving Dom first, Brian a close second and Han third. "Watch this. He's gonna let off the throttle at the line." Zenna comments, referring to Dom. Brian wins the race courtesy of Dom letting him.
They four men plus Zenna, pull back into the base, Brian stepping out of the car with a cheesy grin on his face. "Good race, O'Connor." Dom says. "Thanks, Dom." Brian turns to Roman and Han with a grin. "Do you know how long I have been waiting for that shit?" Brian and Roman shake hands and hug as Zenna has to hold back her laugh. "I told you he didn't see it," Han said, sliding his hand around Zenna's waist.
"Your man right there? He let off the throttle at the line. You didn't do nothin'. He let you win." Roman informs before walking off. Brian scoffs, "bullshit." Zenna pursed her lips and pat his shoulder sympathetically before following Han.
Brian's grin fell realizing they were right.
