The first day of school. Some people love it, others hate it. I'm one of those people who absolutely hates it. Especially when you're heading into you're senior year of high school, but it isn't that bad.
I knew my best friend, Chris, would be there early like usual. Normally, I'd pick him up from his house and then take us to school, but today he decided to take the bus since its our first day.
School starts around 8 am, so by the time I got to school, it was 7:45 and I knew Chris would already be there.
I walked into school, my bag slung over my shoulder as I held my schedule in my hand, with my locker number written on the side with the combo.
"Hey, hey, hey! Look who it is!" I laughed, as I walked up to my locker, looking next to me. Chris was next to me, but that wasn't new. Our lockers were always next to each other, we always had the same classes, and the same everything.
"What a surprise." Chris laughed, playfully rolling his eyes over at me, and I snorted out a laugh.
"Ugh, look, its Little Miss McPretty." I whispered to him, pointing to Alexis Yeatts, who was a few lockers down from us.
Alexis Yeatts was the most popular girl in school, and the prettiest girl in the school, she's your typical dumb, pretty, blonde who gets all the guys.
"Yeah, just ignore her, C." Chris whispered back as he opened his locker, pushing his books back into his locker.
"Its hard to do when she wears that." I scoffed, a disgusted look on my face as I motioned towards her, rolling my eyes at the short, sparkly black skirt she was wearing with the pink crop top.
Alexis was like the Voldemort to my Harry Potter. We absolutely hated each other, and we have since the second grade when she moved to the small town of Harrison, New Jersey.
It was the first day of second grade, and we all had to introduce ourselves to the new student that year which was Alexis Yeatts. I don't remember exactly what I said, but I most likely said a sarcastic or offensive comment towards her causing her to absolutely hate me, and the feeling was mutual.
I leaned against my locker, waiting for Chris to finish up, my attention down on my shoes as I kicked around a pebble.
"Okay, lets go." Chris said, as he shut his locker, turning to face me and I had an unamused look on my face.
"Finally." I said sarcastically, making him roll his eyes at me as we walked to our first class together, which was Biology.
"Yay, biology." I said sarcastically, rolling in my eyes as I sat down in the back of the class, throwing my bag down, Chris sitting down next to me.
"Okay! Time to pick lab partners!" Mr.Wiseburn, the biology teacher, yelled. Everyone stood up and Chris and i looked at each other.
Chris was tapped on the shoulder by none other than Alexis Yeatts. "Hey Chris, I was wondering if someone like you wanted to partner with someone like me?" She asked, shrugging her shoulders.
Chris looked at me and i sighed and nodded, motioning for him to work with her.
"Okay, yeah, I'll work with you." Chris smiled and nodded, following her over to a lab bench.
I sighed and sat down, looking up when I saw someone in front of me, "Wanna work together?" He asked, shrugging at me.
"Oh, Luke Hemmings, sure, why not?" I laughed slightly, standing up and following him to a lab bench, sitting across from Chris and Alexis.
I rested my chin on the edge of my hand as I traced random shapes on the countertop of the lab table.
"Luke Hemmings." Luke said, sticking his hand over to me and i looked over at him, shaking his hand, "Cosette Campi." I responded, a smile on my face.
"Lab partners for the next 180 days till summer does us part." I jokingly said, making Luke laugh.
By the end of 3rd period, Alexis was clinging to Chris's side. It was already lunch period and I knew deep down I wouldn't be eating with him.
I sighed, seeing Chris sitting with the popular kids, Alexis holding onto his arm.
I sat down near at a table near the door, no one was there so I would be sitting enjoyingly alone.
"Mind if I sit here?" Luke asked as he pulled out a chair across from me and i laughed, shrugging my shoulders.
The whole lunch we talked about everything and anything, but seeing Alexis holding onto Chris made me hurt. I never really was hurt before by Chris, only jokingly.
It was something about seeing Alexis holding onto Chris that made my heart ache, it made me jealous. I tried and tried to push the feelings down all day but every single time I saw them it tore my heart apart slowly and painfully.
"Hey, you good?" Chris asked me as he had finally managed to pull himself off of Alexis, and jogging up to me.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I shrugged, my voice more high pitched than normal, slightly cursing at myself when I noticed the change in tone in my voice.
"Okay?" Chris laughed, shaking his head as he adjusted his backpack, and my clench on my bag tightened, my knuckles turning white.
"I'm hanging out with Alexis after school, for biology." Chris shrugged, and I nodded, jealousy filling my gut.
"Okay, I'm hanging out with Luke Hemmings." I said, knowing that wasn't true but had to make him believe something.
"Luke Hemmings? As in the one who plays on the basketball team?" He asked, a shocked tone in his voice.
I shrugged, "Yeah. So what?" I snorted, rolling my eyes as we walked out of the school.
"Okay, I'm headed home with Alexis, bye Cos." He smiled, punching my shoulder and I nodded, cursing him out in my mind.
"Fuck you and Yeatts." I mumbled, adjusting my bag and walking to my car, getting in and slamming the door shut.
I headed home and darted towards my room, sitting down and opening my laptop.
'Party at my house tonight! party at 8! everyone invited!' I typed out, sending an email to the entire school, a proud smile on my face.
"Okay, time to make Chris jealous." I whispered, opening my closet and looking for something to wear.
I heard my phone ding and saw a text from a classmate, Alexis's sister, 'Chris kissed Alexis!' The text read and my phone slipped from my fingers.
Chris kissed Alexis were the constant words that ran through my mind, pain wrenching my heart.
Is this what jealousy felt like? It gave me an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach, my hands clammy and shaking as I sat down, running a hand through my hair.
I guess he's Heather.
