Emmanuella POV

It was finally weekend and after sooo much stalling,  I finally  built up the courage to go and see Kelvin and Zoey agreed to drive me. Ever  since my mom had enough proof again my dad,  they have both not been on talking  terms. Yes they share the same bed,  same walk in closet,  same bathroom and all  but still no talking.  that had made it extra difficult to ask them for anything especially Favours. 

I had done my Saturday routine of tidying up the whole house and making  breakfast which was pancake and waffles. I was hoping to bring some love back to this family at least  to my parents  life but i was disappointed to  hear that dad never came home last night. Heck he's been gone for two nights now and mom,  mom's been sleeping on the living room carpet  feeling like she pushed him too hard. She just  wanted him back home, even if she wasn't going to talking to him, at least for our Sake.

I sighed I just  finished  making breakfast and I went up to my room to have a bath. Once i was done i got  changed into something more appropriate for the day since I would be visiting Kelvin  later today. looking in the mirror, I was satisfied with my look before I went downstairs to gather  the family together for our breakfast, I was hopeful my dad  would be back by now.  I got down stairs only to meet Zoey already serving her self breakfast in the kitchen so I ask

"Hey Zoey, morning,  where  is mom and dad? "

"Oh ummm they... They  are...  around somewhere in the house...  Yes that's right "

"Zoeyyyy.  you are not telling me something "

"Oh alright,   alright,   dad isn't back yet,  called this morning  promising  he'd be back tonight...  I hope.  Said he slept over at a friends places and went to work from there. "

"Oooh well, what about mom? "

"Ooh moms around she's up in her room.  She has refused  to come  down  or let any one in either. She's  been in there for over 24 hours now. "

" oh.  my.  god!!! then what are we doing here, we should  go check up on her. C'mon eating can wait. "

With that I dragged  Zoey away from her food and she whined in protest saying she and Addie already checked up on  her but she refused to let them in yelling at  them to go away.  i frowned at that  as I dragged her by the hand and  pulled her up the stairs making  her Hasten her steps. Once we both  got to her door step I drew in a shaky breath before letting it out and so did Zoey.  She looked warily at me before she took the step to knock on the  door.   

After  few seconds  she knocked again and this time we heard shuffling of feet's.  We both heaved a sigh relieved that  she was alive and she didn't die out of hunger.  Few seconds later we heard her voice  as she said  in English for the first time in a while

"Who is it? "

" Morning Mom its us,  your daughters, Zoey  and Emmanuella "

"What do you want? "

"We just  want to  check up on you.  Are you okay? "

"I'm fine girls,  now go do you Saturday routine and  prepare breakfast  "

"We've  already  done that,  and we were hoping  you can join us for breakfast. "

I said hopefully and I was glad she  didn't  decline  the offer, she responded saying she  would  join us shortly.  Relieved  Zoey and  I  went downstairs  to set  the table waiting for her to come join us.  Few minutes later Addie  came to join us for breakfast but no sign of mom either.  Feeling Quizzy  and uncomfortable  that mom hasn't come down yet I decide  to ask Addie

"Hey morning  sis,  umm did you by any chance  see mom come out of her room "

"Umm No,  but she's been in there over 24hours.  Zoey and I tried to talk to her yesterday but nothing. "

"Oh umm well she must have been  in a really good mood this morning. she answered us when we went to Greet her,  saying we should come sit with us for breakfast . "

"Whew that a good sign then.  Not too worry I'll go check  up on her then "

Immediately Addie said that we saw mom descending the stairs in her usual caramel kaftan and she  looked like she just  stepped out of the bathroom.  we all heaved a sign of relief at the sight of our Mom  knowing she was alright.

We smiled cheerfully at her to encourage her that she was not alone in this even though  it really  seemed like she was.  The news of our dad cheating on her really took a toll on her and she hadn't really been herself  lately.  But as her children we have a right to stand by her no matter what. 

We sat at the dinning  table with  Mom  leading  the prayer before we ate breakfast in a comfortable silent.  Immediately we finished that  I got a call from the doctor of the hospital that was hospitalizing Kelvin. How they even got my number I don't know but I didn't  have time to ask as they gave  me information  about Kelvin.

"Hello good day,  am i speaking to Miss Emmanuella?  "

"Yes, yes,  is there a problem Doctor?
is Kelvin alright?  Is he awake?  "

I asked all once and the doctor asked me to stay  calm,  that everything  was fine and there was nothing to worry about.

" deep breath Miss, deep breath. The patience is  alright and he is resting but...  He's being mentioning the name  Ella ever since he regained consciousness do you know a lady with that name"

"Urrrr"

"Miss are you alright? "

"Urrrrrrr yea... yea...  I'm fine "

I said stuttering,  I felt my heart race within my chest and i couldn't believe it

... Ella...

he still remembered the  nick name he used to  call me 4 years ago...  Does it mean he remembers  everything I thought. Well there is only one way to find out as I tried to focus on what the doctor was saying.

"Miss Miss can you hear me?  Are you still there? "

"Yes, yes,  Please I'm still here. "

"Alright I'm hoping you know this Ella of whom he speaks off  because  he has refused to see anyone else. "

He said and with  that  the line went dead before I could think of a response.  I looked up from my phone only to see my mom and sisters looking at me expectantly,  I released the breath  i didn't know I was  holding.  I decide to break the awkward silence that was already ensuring withing us,  it was slowly chocking me

"Its Kelvin... He is asking for Ella... "

"Is that what the doctor said? is he okay? "

"Yea he's...  fine he just won't let any one else see him...  Except Ella... Except me"

" well what  are you waiting for go see him"

My elder sister Addie said.  Zoey and I got up to drive down to the hospital to see Kelvin, while Addie and mom went ahead to take care of the dishes.

1:30pm

We got to the hospital and few minutes later the doctor arrived and we stood up to meet him.  We had alittle chat before letting us into Kelvin's  ward.  On getting  there the sight of Kelvin lying motionless on the hospital bed made me speechless. I couldn't  believe it,  he looked soo pale,  void of any Colour and I felt the guilt wash over me all over again. Flashback of what  happened that day came flooding my thoughts and i still couldn't believe it  was my fault that Kelvin was  put into the hospital bed.

I didn't know i was crying  Until i  felt beads of water dropping from my eyes. Before I knew it i collapsed on the hospital bed  beside him as I sobbed on his shoulder violently soaking the blue hospital clothes he was wearing.

" I'm sorry Kelvin,  I am so sorry,  I didn't mean for it to happen.  I was just Soo desperate to be better at basketball. I didn't mean for it to end like this.  This  was all my fault if only I could turn the hands of time, if only i could change the past so i could save the future ...  This is all my fault I am soo sorry Kelvin  "

I kept on apologizing and wallowing in self pity unable to stop rambling.  I felt him stir a bit underneath me and I stood up to sit in a chair beside his hospital bed  his eyes were still  closed but I could feel his consciousness and i heard his voice as it came out as short gasp calling me in that name again

So Kelvin's  memory has been restore due to the head injury 🤕 🤕 he sustained at the basketball courts. I'm sure you all are wondering why he Lost his memory In the first place or rather how he lost it?
