Chapter Twenty Two
"WHY can't we tell them again?" Han asked as they opened the car door, allowing them to hop out of the car and take their steps towards the mansion Mal's family owned.
"Because we don't want to ruin the surprise," Felix replied simply.
"And because if we tell them, somehow it will get leaked to the fans and they will go crazy."
They all nodded at the girl's explanation, watching her open the gigantic door and step inside the living room.
"We need to make our presence known by making a photoshoot right after we're done practicing and tell everyone about our concert. But until then, they can't know."
Felix thought for a moment. "But we don't have enough money to hire a photographer?"
"Leave that to me, baby."
They opened the door that led to the studio and were not surprised to spot Chan sitting on a chair, facing a laptop. He had big headphones pressed against his ear, so he didn't turn around when they came in.
"Hey, Chan!" Han exclaimed, stepping towards Chan and pressing a hand against his shoulder. The older boy jumped a little as he turned to them.
"Don't scare me like that."
"Hey, Chan. What were you working on?" Felix asked, leaning towards the chair and glancing at the screen.
THUNDEROUS - TRACK 1
"Wow! How is it going?"
"It's going great! I already had the melody planned in my head so it wasn't hard at all. I was only sitting here for half an hour-" Chan thought for a moment, then turned to look at the top of the laptop's screen, "Four hours! Shit! Wait, why are you guys so late?"
"We had to help decorate for the homecoming dance. It was dumb as hell, everyone was loud and annoying." Hyunjin explained in disgust, "But Mal gave us lip balm! What do you think?"
Chan giggled at his friend's mood changing to pure enthusiasm. "It looks great! How much is that?"
"Like thirty-five dollars, why?" Mal replied nonchalantly, taking a look at her phone screen. They stared at her with a gaping, slightly taken aback expression, causing her to look up from her phone.
"You paid thirty-five dollars for lip balm?!"
"Yeah... But only because I really liked it, and because when I'm nervous, I pull at the chapped skin on my lips and I need to force myself to stop. Not to show off, I promise." she explained with a small, reassuring smile. Then, unexpectantly, her phone gave a small sound of notification. She lifted her phone to her eye level to see what it was.
"What is it?" Felix asked, "Is everything alright?"
"Yeah... They already created this group for the people who were supposed to decorate for homecoming, and they added me to it. Now I have to listen to their dumb conversations." she replied, clearly annoyed. "I'll just mute them, I guess."
"Yeah, please do. We're going to start practicing, right after I'm done with this track."
Chan returned to his seat at the desk, then put on the headphones once again. They all turned to the other side of the room, spotting the chairs in the far corner. They took their turns to sit on the chairs and find something to do, waiting until their leader was done.
"Hey, can someone help me with this English lesson? I don't think I understand anything." Hyunjin let out the textbook from his small, brown backpack, and stared at the page in dismay.
"Of course, we'll help you!" Mal replied, leaning over his shoulder to take a look at the lesson.
"This one is kinda easy, I think you'll understand well."
