Chapter Twenty Three
AFTER the group's song practise, they all complained to Chan that they were tired, and that they wanted to sleep.
"You're right, I guess. It's really late, so we'll go home." Chan replied, glancing at the time in the nearby laptop. The clock ticked a little past nine o'clock.
"How about you guys sleep over today? We have a lot of guest rooms! And, I'm sure my mothers won't mind. They're not here anyway."
The four boys thought eagerly for a moment. "Wait, can we? I always wondered what it was like to stay the night at a great place like this."
"Yeah, but... We don't have anything to change into for the night."
Mal glanced at her boyfriend, an excited smile over her face. "Leave that to me! Come on, guys. We'll have so much fun!"
"Okay! I guess we'll stay the night then."
That made her smile and jump up and down cheerfully. "Yay! Now let's go to the closet room."
"Wait, this place has a closet room?"
"Three, actually! We divided some types of clothes, so we have one for home wear, one for casual and formal outfits and one for special outfits." she explained, but before she could say something else, her phone gave a loud sound of notification. She stared at it in dismay, then pressed on the button to see what was on the screen.
"Tomorrow is apparently 'Support your Sexuality' day. They're all agreeing on wearing something that supports the LGBTQ+ community, and announce their hidden sexualities to everyone else." she read out loud, then turned her phone off quickly, a thoughtful, sad expression planted over her face.
And Felix knew exactly why.
"Hey, baby, why don't you wear something purple and black tomorrow? I think it would look great on you, and it would match with all the different colors."
The three boys stopped in their tracks and turned to the couple, making Mal bite her lower lip anxiously.
"Why purple and black?"
She glanced at Felix nervously, then back at them. "I-It's the asexual flag. Because I'm... I'm Asexual."
She half expected them to glance at her in confusion, or worse, disgust. None of the people she met actually knew what she was talking about, including Felix at first. Only her family understood right away, and that was only because they were beginning to understand more about the community and read more about different types of sexual orientations.
"Wait, really?! Congratulations!"
The others repeated the same festive words while giving her quick hugs. Felix smiled at their reactions, then turned to his girlfriend to give her a tight, reassuring hug.
"I'm so proud of you, baby." he whispered during the hug. She mutter a small word of gratitude while smiling before letting him go.
"We're so proud of you too!" Chan gushed with a proud smile, making the others nod profusely.
"Thanks, guys. I appreciate it, really." she began with a shy grin, "You're the best friends I could ask for."
"Don't mention it! But I'm curious, how did you figure out your orientation?"
"I found out when I realized that I'm not actually into sexual intercourse and I was just hoping for a romantic relationship. My first relationship ended when I felt pressured to do things I didn't want to do. Also because he was cheating and treating me like shit, but that's not the point. He wasn't into romantic things, and like most the boys in our school, he was hoping for something more. I think it was the main reason he began looking at other girls and cheating like that." she began explaining, taking deep breaths as she tried to pour her heart out into words.
"I realized that I didn't want to try it, at all. And it wasn't because I was afraid. It was just who I am, and I went throught a lot of time to realize that it was my identity. I guess it's not enough for some people."
"But it's enough for us." Chan replied. The others nodded in agreement.
Felix had a sad, thoughtful expression over his face. He glanced at her as he realized that he was the first person she trusted with that information, right after her family. A wave of enthusiasm rushed inside him. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it gently, a small, proud smile finding its way through his mouth.
"I love you, Mal. And, I wanted to thank you for trusting me with that information, and trusting them. It really means a lot to me." he spoke, making her stop in her track to stare into his face. She admired him for only a second before she could mutter a reply.
"Of course, sunshine. You're my boyfriend, the best one I could ask for, for that matter. And you guys are my friends."
They muttered sweet replies, giving each other hugs when possible. Han took one step away with a quiet, thoughtful expression.
"Han, are you okay?" Felix asked, still hugging Mal's torso with a fading smile. The others turned to Han's direction, words of concern already forming over their lips.
"Yeah... Actually, do you mind if I tell you guys something?"
