xxi. back in the city of champions

SEPTEMBER 29TH 2018!
BECCA JONES-GILBERT!

"OK BUT WHAT IF THEY DON'T LIKE ME?"

i saw brantley laugh at my worry, and he put an arm around me shaking his head.

"sweetheart, i think its impossible for the boy's to hate anyone, especially someone who is a very close family friend."he grinned, and i saw preston, kolby, and uncle cj talking with brantley's band members.

"holy shit it's the carbon copy of lissa!"ben simmons, brantley's drummer yelled and i laughed a little, "i've always been told i look like my mom except for the blond hair."

"you've definitly got her temper too."uncle chris added on, and i glared at him making the boys yell, and brantley laughed a little.

ben turned to me with a toothy grin, "now i've heard that you've got a worse record than bg already, is that right?"

"yes sir."i grinned proudly making kolby laugh, "chased them all the way to the state line a couple weeks ago and i've already threatened to kick ass."

"becca kay!"i heard a low growl behind me and i went pale, before turning around finding mama becky, and my nana standing there with their arms crossed over their chest.

nana had come up with us to boston for the trial that was happening monday, and we happened to run into mama becky whom was in town to watch b play.

"what did your mama ever tell you about cursing?"nana asked, and i grinned a little.

"well nana if you must know she told me never to swear around you." the smartass in me came out, and my nana walked up to me, twisting my ear before pulling me away from the boys.

"ow! ow! stop it nana!"i yelled as she dragged me towards the stage, where mama b followed us.

"you have got to stop swearing becca kay! lord you are the recreation of your mama."she pinched the bridge of her nose, and i grinned.

"how are you feelin' becca?"mama becky asked, and i shrugged, "don't lie becca kay."

"i'm fine."i admitted, "i'm here to enjoy b's show and not to worry about monday."

"if you don't feel right or ok let us know."nana wrapped me in a hug, and i nodded, "i will."

they let me go back to where the guys were, and they were all talking about college football, and i smirked, walking towards the boys.

"none of you guys know hockey eh?"i asked, and they laughed.

"there ain't any hockey team in georgia becca."brantley told me, and i rose an eyebrow, "wanna bet?"

"there used to be the atlanta thrashers, who ended up not doing that well and kinda just disappeared. plus there's bruins hockey."an evil grin spread across my face as i saw preston throw his head back groaning.

"not this again!"he complained, and i jumped on his back, making him stumble.

"is hockey all that she talks about?"ben asked, and preston nodded making me gasp, "liar!"

"i talk about baseball and boston too smartass."i stuck out my bottom lip, and all the guys seemed to be entertained with preston and i.

including uncle chris.

"y'know he's right becca, you talk about hockey a lot."uncle chris chuckled, and i shrugged, "hockey boys are gorgeous."

"i thought i was gorgeous?!" preston threw his hands up, referring to the words that i told him a few weeks ago, and i shrugged.

"you're alright."

i walked away, with all the guys laughing, and i was trying to find nana and mama becky to talk again about anything.

we had about an hour before brantley went on, so all the guys were talking, and of course i had joined in.

i was wearing a bg concert t-shirt with a pair of jeans and cowboy boots that i had, figuring it'd be a little cold in boston tonight.

and i can tell you one thing,

it was going to be rowdy tonight.

AS I PREDICTED, TONIGHT WAS DEFINITELY ROWDY, AND MY HOME STATE BROUGHT IT TONIGHT.

but something felt off.

there was anxiety sitting in my chest and my stomach had been churning since the show had ended.

brantley had pulled uncle chris aside a few minutes ago, and they still hadn't come back.

and i was starting to get worried.

"i'll be right back."i kissed preston's cheek, before grabbing a water from the cooler hoping it'd help when i heard brantley and uncle chris arguing.

"why didn't you tell me about lissa chris! you know damn well i was one of the closest people to her before she left!"brantley had yelled, and i stayed by the cooler, pretending to be busy.

"because brantley she didn't want you to know about becca!"uncle chris argued back, and i felt my heart stop.

why didn't she want brantley to know about me?

"she never came back after sixteen years chris, why didn't she want me to know about becca?"brantley had said in a low growl, and i had froze.

"she didn't want to put her in that environment that you were in brantley. she wasn't going to put her through the hell that lissa and i went through with dad when we were younger."uncle chris had told him, and everything had stopped.

uncle chris knew who my father was, and all the pieces had started to click together.

"you mean-?"brantley stopped,
and i heard rocks kick.

"yes brantley, and right now this isn't the time to talk about it. when you get back to georgia i'll tell you more about it."uncle chris finished the conversation, and i got up, drinking some of my water before uncle chris came to the front from behind the bus.

tears pricked at my eyes, as i looked at him, and his smile dropped, "becca? what's wrong?"

my heart dropped, and i had finally figured out who my father was.

"you knew?"i whispered, and i saw everyone looking at us, "you knew for sixteen fucking years!"

"becca-"i cut him off, and i shook my head.

"you knew for sixteen fucking years who my father was and you kept it from me! you wouldn't tell me shit! nobody would!"i snapped, and i saw nana's face drop.

"you're mama didn't want me to say anything becca."uncle chris tried to wrap me in a hug, and i pulled away from him.

"you lied to me! you fucking lied to me!"tears had started to stream down my face, and i shook my head.

"y'know what fuck this. if you wanna keep secrets from me, then do so, like i could give two shit."i chuckled bitterly, before i started to walk off.

i knew who my father was,

and it was the man who i went and saw a concert for tonight.
