xi. my church
"yeah i guess that's my church !"
"WHEN HANK BRINGS THE SERMON !"
i sang along with maren morris as i drove back to jefferson, hoping to avoid sunday church traffic.
while everyone else was at church this morning, i was driving down 95, singing along to maren morris, and some of brantley's music.
i had a playlist going with almost all of marens songs, and the deluxe edition from the devil don't sleep but there was one song that i left out.
rich.
my birthday was in five days, and i couldn't wait. i had gotten mom's old white jeep that she had gotten in 2016, and i had everything that she had left in here.
the night we had gotten into the crash, we had been using her rental because the jeep was in the shop, and it got totaled.
both nana and miss.becky begged me to go to church with them, but i couldn't do it and nana understood why.
the last time i was in a church was when my mother's funeral, and i haven't been in one since.
so driving down 95, going nowhere in mind was my church for now, i was fine with it.
my phone started ringing, interrupting my music, and i groaned before answering it through the bluetooth, "the hell do you want?!"
"hello to you too!"kolby laughed, and i groaned, "you interrupted my church now what do you want?!"
"are you coming to mamas?"uncle chris yelled over the phone and i shrugged, "do you want me to?"
"up to you!"he yelled once more, making me roll my eyes.
"is preston going to be there?"i asked, and kolby oh'ed, "you mean your boyfriend!"
"i'm going to fucking beat you ass kolby i swear to god!"i growled, and uncle chris laughed.
"you sound just like your mama when she was telling b, eli, and i off!"he laughed once more, and i smiled.
"y'know she said that to me after last year's trip."i snickered, and kolby laughed.
we sat in a few moments of silence, before i pursed my lips, "can i get back to my music now?"
"yes you may, are we going to see you at mama's?"uncle chris asked, and i hummed.
"love you guys!"
"love you too!"

"WHERE IS EVERYONE?!"
i laughed as i walked into ms.beckys house, and nobody was inside the house.
everyone's cars were in the driveway, so i was clueless.
"becca!"i saw him peak his head in the kitchen door, and he wore a huge smile across his face.
he had blue jeans, and a nice dress shirt on along with dress shoes making me smile.
i pulled my black sunglasses on the top of my head as he wrapped me in a hug, "missed ya this morning."
"well i had my sunday services with maren morris from 10-11 which you know i couldn't miss."i smirked, and he laughed knowing what i meant, "you are such a weirdo."
he unwrapped me from a hug and started to walk away, making me run after him.
"but i'm your best friend and you love me!"i laughed, jumping on his back and he let out a grunt.
"your a fatass becca i swear to god, your heavy."he grumbled as we walked outside, and tinsley screamed racing towards us.
"it's called muscle preston."i laughed, as he put me down and tinsley jumped into my arms.
"well! look what the cat dragged in!"mama grace smiled, and i nodded with a wide smile across my face.
"you really did try to look like maren today didn't you?"ashley snorted, and my smile grew wider, "i tried, couldn't do the leather jacket tho."
"it's too hot for that."mama grace added, and i nodded before sitting down next in between preston and tinsley.
"she cussed us out too because we interrupted her music."kolby snickered, and i rolled my eyes.
"you should've known i was going to, you've done it before, why wouldn't i do it?"i raised an eyebrow at him, and he shook his head.
"so your a big maren morris fan?"i looked towards the end of the table to find brantley sitting there with his hat backwards and i nodded, "the biggest."
"what do you think of her new single rich?"he asked, and i cringed a little bit.
"i cant listen to it anymore."i said, and uncle chris's jaw dropped a bit, as brantley furrowed his eyebrows.
"how come if you don't mind me asking."he asked, and i shrugged.
"it's just got some bad memories linked to it, anytime i hear it, it just brings back bad memories."i shrugged and he nodded before tinsley climbed onto my lap and gave me a hug.
one thing that nobody would ever understand was how just driving on the highway with the music blasting was a get away for me.
it was my church.
