I wiped the sweat off of my hands onto my sundress for the fifth time in twenty minutes. I turned my head to look at the clock on my bedroom wall.

6:58 PM

I sighed. Only two more minutes before he would arrive to pick me up for our date. My sister, Suzie, had set me up with her best friend, Jana's ex-boyfriend, Officer Jake Riley. I rolled my eyes at the thought. If they'd broken up, there must have been a reason behind it. And for all I knew, he could be the reason.

What if he was a player? Or worse, a psychopath?

Suddenly, the buzzer by my front door went off. I bit my lip nervously as I got up from my seat and walked over to the door. It was now or never. I opened my door cautiously to find a tall, brunette guy standing before me. He wore a light blue t-shirt with a Captain America logo emblazoned across the front, dark blue, ripped jeans, and a scuffed-up pair of Converse sneakers. He was also extremely attractive.

I smiled at him and he grinned back at me as he held out a hand.

"Ready for our date?" he asked, charmingly.

I nodded my head and took the hand he offered me. A slight shock went through my body when my skin touched his. When I looked up at him, I could tell he'd felt it too. His face held a confused and slightly startled expression but I shrugged it off as he led me to his car that was parked outside.

The rest of the night was amazing. We talked and laughed. He told me about how came to be a cop and I told him about my career as a writer. By the time we finished our meal, I already knew that I had made the right choice by coming. He was sweet, funny, silly, and cute - everything I'd always been looking for in a guy. On the drive home, we sang to songs on the radio in silly voices.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard. When we arrived back at my house, he walked me to my door. By now, I'd been smiling so much that my face hurt.

"I know this is probably really forward of me but...would you like to go on another date with me?" he asked hopefully as I turned to face him.

I grinned at him and nodded.

"Yeah, that would be great! Honestly, I haven't had this much fun in a long time." I said, laughing.

His eyes lit up at that and he smiled widely at me. Suddenly, I realized how close we were standing. And before I knew it, we were both leaning in towards each other. As his plump lips connected with mine, butterflies erupted in my stomach. His lips felt like velvet and tasted like chocolate ice cream. After a few more seconds, he pulled away.

My eyes slowly fluttered open and I was looking into deep, ocean-blue eyes. The kiss had been so intoxicating, it left me speechless. I didn't know what to say. He knew it too because he smirked then before speaking.

"Good night." he whispered, his hot breath lingering on my lips as he walked away, back to his car.

I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding. What have I gotten myself into?
