New Beginnings | Godparents

A/N: Order 66 never happened, Anakin never became Vader, Darth Hideous died. I don't care how that happened but the important thing is that it did, that's all that matters XD

***

Anakin never thought he'd run into her here. Here, in such a random place, five years after he'd last seen her. At first, he'd thought this was just a normal, unmemorable grocery shopping trip -- but how wrong he proved to be. Those signature blue-and-white chevron-patterned montrals of hers would never fade from his mind; he would instantly recognize them anywhere.

"Ahsoka?" He managed to call out, his vocal cords tightening from the pure joy and disbelief he was filled with simply from seeing his sister again, knowing she was alive and well.

Her lively pace hastened as her next step failed to touch the ground, freezing in her tracks. She slowly turned around, and her eyes widened in shock at the sight before her.

Anakin couldn't speak. There he stood his former apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, two feet apart from him, exactly like the day she'd left the Order.

They're asking you back, Ahsoka... I'm asking you back.
I'm sorry, Master. But I'm not coming back.

He had watched helplessly as she walked away from him, from all she'd ever known, into the dying Coruscanti sunlight. Every part of him screamed, urging him to run and join her, to comfort her, to wrap his arms around her as a big brother would. But he hadn't. He'd let her go.

Ahsoka felt her breath hitch in her throat as she turned around, locating the source of the voice. Anakin Skywalker, her mentor, her brother, was standing right there as if it were only yesterday that she'd seen him.

You can't just walk away like this! Ahsoka, you are making a mistake.
Maybe. But I have to sort this out on my own. Without the Council... and without you.

She hadn't been able to stop the cascade of tears slipping silently down her cheeks as she slowly walked away, feeling Anakin's eyes on her. She reminisced all the good times and vivid memories she'd created with him. She was no longer Skywalker's Padawan, the well-known Commander of the 501st Legion. Her brothers. Rex, Fives, Jesse. Gone were those memories, shattered by her harsh reality. As she walked down those steps, her life within the Order flashed through her mind. It was all gone.

The Togruta blinked rapidly, stopping the salty liquid that was very quickly gathering in the corners of her eyes from the flashback.

Anakin's vision blurred; he tried desperately not to lose control, to run over and wrap her in his arms and make up for all the lost time.

Ahsoka initiated the first move. She set her shopping basket down as she made a step towards him.

Anakin reciprocated.

Another step from Ahsoka.

A second step from Anakin.

The distance between them closed as they finally re-secured their prominent positions in each other's lives, their almost broken Force bond renewed as raw emotion rapidly coursed through it. The warmth of finally being in each other's arms again after half a decade returned, the reunion bitter-sweet. Anakin's arms were tightly wrapped around Ahsoka's lower back, pulling her against his chest as he let his chin rest in the valley between her montrals. The Togruta relished in the comfort of his presence, as she, too, wrapped her arms around his waist, letting her hands rest on his upper back.

Ahsoka felt a small drop of liquid splatter onto her montrals. Then another. And another. She didn't care.

Anakin felt one droplet soak into his tunic, then two, then three, then multiple as the fabric began to cling to his skin as her tears of joy poured out, the withheld emotion finally let free.

"Snips," he whispered hoarsely, voice cracking with emotion.

"Skyguy," she returned weakly, "I missed you."

"You have no idea..." Anakin replied, eyes still blurry with tears. "Those days without you it was unbearable."

The Togruta held her brother close, with him doing the same. They never wanted to let go of each other, in fear that they would become separated again. This time, separated for good.

Luckily, the Force had other plans for them.

There was nothing but bliss between them, surroundings, and other curious shoppers fading into the background. Anakin had nearly forgotten what it was like, having his Snips with him again. He'd forgotten how perfectly her body fit in with his so perfectly when they shared an embrace, like two pieces of a puzzle. But something felt off. The Skywalker desperately probed his mind for a possible solution; the answer was there, he knew it -- yet, it simply disappeared. He hated those moments.

"Anakin?" Ahsoka asked, having sensed his slight moment of frustration. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," he replied, thoughts racing at thousands of miles per hour. What could the answer be? He thought back to the beginning of their encounter -- the dawning realization, the hug, the unity- That's it! he thought to himself. Looking back, he inspected it again, zooming in on the hug. Something had felt awkward! They were no longer like a puzzle's perfect fit- they had been distanced. His eyes widened in realization.

"Snips?" Anakin asked, dazed. "Are you-?"

His unasked question loomed in the air as Ahsoka averted her gaze, blushing intensely.

"Yes... about that," she continued, a hand coming to rest on her lower abdomen, where a small bump could be seen. "I was wondering if you'd be willing to be (C/N/H - character's name here) and my child's godfather-?"

Anakin stared at his old apprentice, the Clone War flashing before his eyes. The innocent fourteen-year-old descending from the gunship, their numerous missions together, her departure-- and now, five years later.

"Ahsoka," he smiled, "I'd love to."

She beamed, for the first time in a long time after that fateful day, half a decade prior. "Thanks for the support. As always."

Anakin chuckled. "That's what friends are for."

And in a moment, it was Skywalker's turn to blush beet red. "Also, hey, Snips?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Yeah?"

"I'd been wondering the same thing-- would you like to be our children's godmother?"

"Children- godmother? Anakin, what?

"I think both you and Obi-Wan have at least suspected something between Senator Amidala and I," he hinted mischievously, a gleam sparkling in his blue eyes.

"Oh, Anakin," Ahsoka sighed. "We've suspected for a long time," she exaggerated, rolling her eyes to emphasize her point. "But I digress, congratulations are always better late than never! I would love to be your children's godmother, as long as they aren't mini-versions of you when they grow up, and by that, I mean the ability to turn any normal situation into trouble."

"You never know," he grinned.

Ahsoka pulled out her holopad. "Here's my number, and my address. Bring Padmé and the kids over soon! We need to catch up for so much lost time."

"Of course, Snips," Anakin smiled, gazing at his old Padawan, who was nearly the same height as him. "I'm proud of you. May the Force Be With You."

A/N: So some of you may have noticed the (C/N/H) part -- because honestly, I had no idea who to put there since personally, I don't ship her with anyone, she's strong, independent, and fierce, so I gave you the freedom to ship whoever you'd like with her :)
Sorry if the middle part was a bit awkward, but for some reason, I've had this scene stuck in my head for a while now but the fluff was really fun to write, especially the flashback part.
