You were staring at the window as Harry, Hermione, and Ron talked while a stranger just beside Harry was asleep. Everywhere else was full so you decided to share with the sleeping stranger who turned out to be Professor Remus Lupin.
"Let me get this straight. Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban to come after you?" Ron asked Harry in worry.
"Yeah." Harry sighed.
"But they'll catch Black, won't they?" Hermione questioned. "I mean, everyone's looking for him."
"Sure." Ron nodded. "Except no one's ever broken out of Azkaban before and he's a murderous raving lunatic."
Harry blinked at his friend and stared at him in disbelief. "Thanks, Ron." Harry turned to you as you maintained eye contact outside. "(Y/n)?"
You snapped out of your thoughts and looked at your three friends who were staring at you in worry. "Yeah?"
"You're awfully quiet." Ron frowned as he caressed his rat, Scabbers. "Are you sure you're okay?"
'Why is everyone asking me the same question over and over again?' You smiled and slowly nodded. "Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"
Suddenly, the train stopped abruptly. "Why did the train stopped?" Hermione asked. "We can't be there yet."
You started to feel cold and hugged yourself. "It's so cold." You muttered and leaned your head on the window. Harry stood up and opened the door, peeking his head out along with the other students inside to investigate what was happening until the train shook violently.
The shake made you flinch while Harry was pushed back to his seat and the door closed. "What's going on?" Ron asked frantically.
"I don't know," Harry replied. "Maybe we've broken down."
The lights abruptly shut off. Hermione glared at Ron who was leaning towards you to see the window. "Ouch, Ron. That was my foot."
The lights flickered back on as you and Ron saw something moving in the distance. "There's something moving out there." You stated as you squinted your eyes to try and see what it was while placing your hand against the window. "I think someone's coming aboard."
The train shook violently again. "Uhh... guys..." Ron said as he pointed at the window. You gazed at the window and saw it was freezing, including the bottled glass of which Professor Lupin owns.Β
The train shook more violently causing Ron to yelp. "Bloody hell! What's happening?"
Harry glanced at Lupin who was still surprisingly asleep. Unexpectedly, you and your friends saw a mysterious figure. You thought it was a ghost when the door's handled moved and opened the door without being touched. Once it was opened, it turned to Harry and you saw it was like sucking something out from Harry.
Lupin immediately opened his eyes and stood up, pointing his wand at the dark creature. His wand conjured a bright light causing the creature to back away. Harry passed out with his glasses falling on the ground as you and your friends rushed towards him.
Lights slowly turned on and the train finally started moving. You sat where Lupin previously sat and placed Harry's head on your lap. "Harry? Harry, are you alright?" You gently shook him to wake him up. He opened his eyes and slowly sat up. "Are you alright?"
Harry nodded wordlessly. He sat up and Hermione gave his glasses back. "Thank you." He looked at the professor who saved him from the creature. Lupin was sitting just on the other side and his arm was stretched out, giving Harry something. "Here, eat this. It'll help."
Harry hesitated but Lupin reassured him. "Don't worry it's just chocolate." The professor smiled kindly.
"What was that thing that came?" Harry asked as he took a bite of the chocolate and looked up at the door where the creature once was.
"It was a Dementor. One of the guards of Azkaban. It's gone now. It was searching the train for Sirius Black." Lupin explained. Then he placed the rest of the chocolate beside Harry and stood up. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to have a little word with the driver."
Lupin stepped out of the compartment and glanced back at Harry. "Eat. You'll feel better." He smiled before leaving. Hermione went back to her seat and carried Crookshanks in her arms. "What happened to me?" Harry asked, taking another bite of the chocolate.
"Well, you sort of went rigid," Ron spoke. "We thought maybe you were having a fit or something."
Harry stared at you, Ron, and Hermione. "And did either of you three, you know, pass out?" Harry asked again, finishing his chocolate.
Ron shook his head. "No... I felt weird, though. Like I'd never be cheerful again."
"But someone was screaming... a woman..."
You, Hermione, and Ron looked at each other before looking back at Harry worriedly. "No one was screaming, Harry," Hermione replied.

After the short presentation from the Frog Choir that Professor Flitwick conducted, Dumbledore stepped in front and smiled warmly. "Welcome! Welcome to another year of Hogwarts!" You heard Dumbledore greeted. You kept your head down and your chin rested on your palm.
"Now, I'd like to say a few words before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin who's kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Good luck, professor."
Lupin stood up and shyly as students clapped for him. Hermione leaned in towards Harry and Ron. "Of course. That's why he knew to give you the chocolate, Harry.
"Potter!" You heard someone whispered. You looked up to see Draco calling Harry. Harry turned around to look at him. "Is it true you fainted?"
Harry nodded. "Yeah..."
Beside Draco was Stacey who mocked Harry as if he fainted. Draco nudged her in annoyance and turned back to his meal and not noticing you.
"How did he find out?" You asked Hermione.
Hermione shrugged and sighed. "I don't know. Just forget it."
"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs." Dumbledore continued. "Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid."
Hagrid was nudged by McGonagall to stand up and he obliged but ended up moving the table. Students clapped including you who smiled widely. Draco glanced in your direction, looking at you, while Seamus stood up and whistled causing him to be brought back down.
"Finally, on a more disquieting note at the request of the Ministry of Magic Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban until such a time as Sirius Black is captured," Dumbledore announced. "The Dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds."
You stared at Dumbledore, listening to everything he's saying. "Now whilst I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities a word of caution. Dementors are vicious creatures." Dumbledore continued. "They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore I must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. It's not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving."
Dumbledore smiled and removed a flame from a candle beside him with one wave of his hand. "But you know happiness can be found even in the darkest of times when one only remembers to turn on the light." Then he brought it back by waving his hand again.
You looked at Draco who sighed and suddenly looked at you. You inhaled sharply and quickly looked down at your food, avoiding his eyes.
You glanced at him and saw that he gave you a small smile. Pansy suddenly throw her arms and wrapped them at Draco's neck, hugging his back, pulling him close to her. You sighed, rolling your eyes, and poked at your food, barely eating anything.
"(Y/n), you have to eat," Hermione whispered worriedly.
You looked at her and softly smiled. "I will. Thanks, Mione." You replied as you took a small bite of your food.
"Are you alright, Draco?" Pansy asked Draco.
Draco nodded. "Yeah. And can you get off me, Pansy? We're not a couple or anything."
Stacy tore Pansy away from Draco and sat beside him. "You're right, she isn't worth it of your time."
Draco rolled his eyes. "Finally, something we can both agree on."
Pansy crossed her arms and looked away while Stacey smirked. "I also meant it for (Y/n) Stark."
"Mind telling me why you hate her so much?"
"Look, Draco, we just want to help you remember," Stacey stated as she placed her hand on top of his. "You used to bully her, don't you remember that?"
Pansy quickly looked at Stacey in surprise, Crabbe and Goyle exchanged looks, while Draco shook his head and looked down to his hand, seeing his bracelet and ring. "No, I don't. Megan Stark told me she's my friend."
"She's lying." Stacey lied. "She just wants you to be nice to both of them. You hate (Y/n) just like I do."
"Stacey, I think that's--" Pansy was about to intervene but Stacey nudged her side causing Pansy to quickly shut her mouth. "Draco, if she truly is your friend then why isn't she helping you, hm? That's not what friends do."
Stacey forced the boy to look at her as she smiled. "An advice from a good friend: stay away from (Y/n) Stark. Trust me. She's bad news."
After dinner, students started heading back to their common rooms. Gryffindors and Slytherins were walking together as they got out of the Great Hall.
Stacey spotted you talking to Ron and slightly laughing when he told a funny story. Draco spotted you too causing Stacey to lean towards his ear. "If she's your friend, why is she avoiding you?"
Draco looked at Stacey as Stacey approached you. She intentionally shoved you causing you to almost fall but Ron immediately caught you. "Watch where you're going, weakling!"
Hermione pulled out her wand at Stacey with a death glare. "Careful what you say, Doom."
"Hermione." Harry forced Hermione to put her arm down. "We shouldn't make a scene. We'll deal with her tomorrow, okay?"
You dusted yourself off and noticed Draco looking away, avoiding your eyes. You ignored him and stepped closer to Stacey before smirking. "Is that what you got, Doom? It's quite pathetic."
You glared at Stacey before walking away as your friends followed behind. Stacey nudged Draco as she crossed her arms. "She's an idiot, isn't she?"
Draco earned stares from his gang as well as some other Slytherins. Feeling pressured, he gulped and nodded. "Sh-She is..."
You stopped in your tracks, hearing what Draco said. You looked around to see them. You stared at Draco and he quickly looked away, feeling regret. You clenched your jaw and started walking again with your friends beside you.

09.22.21 edit #1: people who read this book back in 2019, do you remember the last scene? No? Well, I changed it. Instead of Pansy forcing Draco to bully you, I changed into Stacey and Pansy bullying you but you didn't give in because you're β¨coolβ¨ lmfao
Sorry, I just kinda hate (Y/n) crying over small things (which, don't get me wrong, is not bad because some people can cry on most things) but don't worry, she will cry if that's what you guys want haha
