"What the hell are two doing down here anyway?" Andrea asks the two 'newbies'. "Trying to flag the helicopter." Rick replies and Maia stays silent.

"Helicopter? Man, that's crap, there ain't no damn helicopter." One of the men spoke in disbelief.

"You were chasing a hallucination, imagining things it happens." Another woman said. "I saw it." Rick tried to argue.

"And you?" Andrea asks pointing to Maia. "He said we would help each other, he convinced me to get out of the tank with him." Maia explained before Izarella spoke up.

"You weren't gonna come out of the tank?" She asks confused before Maia looked at her feet and shook her head.

"What?" Izraella's voice softened and put a hand on Maias shoulder. "Not now." Maia replied averting eye contact.

"Hey, T-dog, try that C.B. Can you contact the others?" Morales asks T-dog who had a walkie talkie in his hand. "Others? The refugee center?" Rick asked.

"Yeah, the refugee center, they've got biscuits waiting at the oven for us." A woman speaks sarcastically.

"Got no signal, Maybe the roof." T-dog suggests.

The sound of a gunshot being fired alarmed everyone.

"Oh, no, is that Dixon?" Andrea asked worriedly. "That son of a bitch." Izraella said before taking Maias hand.

"What's that maniac doing?" Jacqui, the woman with short hair asked.

"Come on, let's go." Glenn ushered Rick to follow as Maia was ahead with Izarella looking back to see if Rick was coming.

As everybody ran up the stairs Maia seemed to slow down after the first flight of stairs due to her lack of sleep.

"Hey, come on." Glenn said pushing her a little bit and trying to help her regain her breath before they both sped up the stairs again.

They all finally made it to the roof and Morales burst through the door.

"Hey, Dixon are you crazy?!" Morales exclaimed asked the man who was standing on the ledge of the roof and laughed.

The man reloads his gun and shoots again.

"Oh, jeez." Andrea says frantically. "Hey! You oughta be more polite to a man with a gun!" The man yelled before jumping off the ledge.

"Only common sense." He spoke with a cocky grin on his face.

T-dog came running towards the man.

"Man, you wasting bullets we ain't even got,man!" T-dog yells. "And you're bringing even more of them down on our ass." T-dog yells.

"Hey!" The man yells at T-dog. "Bad enough I've got this taco-bender on my ass all day, Now i'm gonna take orders from you?" The man stepped closer.

"I don't think so, bro. That'll be the day." The man ends off his sentence.

"That'll be the day?" You got something you want to tell me?" T-dog yelled at the man and Maia and Glenn got on the roof and she walked close to Rick.

"Hey, T-dog, man just leave it." Morales tried to suggest. "No." T-dog said annoyed as ever.

"T-dog it ain't worth your time." Izarella spoke up this time.

"Now Merle, just relax, okay?" Morales spoke. "You want to know the day?" The man known as Merle, asks. "Yeah." T-dog challenges.

"I'll tell you the day, Mr Yo. It's the day I take orders from a-." Merle was cut off by a fist flying into his face before hitting T-dog in the nose with his gun.

"Hey, Hey, come on, Merle, that's enough." Morales said as Merle punched T-dog. "Come on." Andrea yells.

"Dixon!" Izraella yelled and Rick tried going to Merle before getting punched in the face and knocked over.

Merle kept fighting and ended up knocking T-dog onto a pipe and hitting his nose on it.

"Dixon you're gonna hurt him!" Andrea yelled and Jacqui pulled her away slightly and Izraella looked to Maia who walked up next to her.

Merle was on top of T-dog punching him over and over, Morales tried to stop him but got hit in the chest and Merle pointed his gun to T-dogs face.

"No, No, No, please!" Andrea yelled and the others were shocked. Merle finally gave in and spat on T-dog before yelling. "Yeah, all right, We're gonna have ourselves a little powwow, huh?" He yelled.

"Talk about who is in charge." Merle said with his hun still in hand. "I vote me, anybody else?" Merle asks. "Huh, democracy time, y'all." He puts up his hand.

"Show of hands, huh?" He continued. "Come on, All in favor? Come on let me see 'em, yeah that's good." He said.

Maia gave Rick a look that said 'what we gonna do?', before Rick took out his handcuffs and Maia nodded getting the idea.

"Now that means i'm the boss, right?" He asks looking at the people in front of him who had their hands raised, Izraella, Glenn, Jacqui and Andrea surrounding T-dog, before Izarella caught a glimpse of Maia walking closer.

"Hmm, Anybody?" Merle asks and Rick replies "Yeah."

"Maia, No!" Izraella yelled trying to stop her.

Maia had enough of this and got up to Merle and punched him in the face knocking him down, before Rick took his hand and cuffed him to a pipe.

"Who the hell are you, man?" Merle asked being held by Rick. "Officer Friendly. Look here, Merle, things are different now." Rick replies.

"There's none of that racist shit anymore." Maia adds and Merle looks at her. "No dumb-as-shit inbred white-trash fools either." Rick agreed with Maia.

"Only dark meat and white meat." Rick says before Merle looks away and gives Maia and look before laughing. "And who is this piece of cake?" Merle chuckles.

"This 'piece of cake' just knocked your ass down and now you're cuffed to a pipe or do you want me to punch you again so you can feel something?" Maia replied with an aggravated expression on her face and her arms now folded across her chest.

"Like i said, theres only us and the dead, we survive this by pulling together, not apart." Rick continues catching Merle's attention.

"Screw you, man." Merle says looking at Rick with a sour expression. "I see you have a habit of missing the point." Rick says.

"Yeah, well screw you twice." Merle says cockily. "Ought to be polite to a man with a gun." Rick mocks Merle before cocking his gun and pushing it to the side of Merle's head.

"Only common sense." Rick says staring Merle down. "You wouldn't, you're a cop." Merle said sourly.

"All i am anymore is a man looking for his wife and son. Anybody that gets in the way of that is gonna lose." Rick threatens before looking to Maia as her says the last sentence.

"I'll give you a moment to think about that." Rick said before patting him down before finding a little vile of cocaine in his pocket. "Got some on your nose there." Rick said flicking Merle's nose.

"What are you gonna do? Arrest me?" Merle laughs before his expression changes. "Hey! What are you doing man, That's my stuff!" Merle yells as Rick throws the vile over the ledge.

Merle tries to get out of the cuffs but fails miserably and he looks to see Maia now perched on the ledge with her arms crossed along her chest and her knife in her hand and she's securing her bow and arrow over her shoulder.

"If i get loose, you'd better pray..." Merle yelled at Rick who already walked away and Maia jumped from the ledge catching his attention.

"Come on, cupcake why don't you help me out here?" He asks with a cocky smirk and she approaches him.

"Call me, cupcake again and this knife will be going straight through your throat." She crouches down and holds the knife to his neck. "Woah, Woah, Maia." Izraella gets up dragging her away from Merle.

"You, hear me you pig!" Merle rolls his eyes and continues yelling for Rick. "Yeah, your voice carries." Rick replied and Morales followed him.

"Mai, why you so hostile?" Izraella asked her highschool best friend.  "i'm running on maximum 3 hours of sleep and i've been in that tank for 4 days, I don't feel like dealing with dicks." Maia replied sharpening her knife and sending Andrea a glare, sitting next to Izraella.

"You are always cranky when you don't get enough sleep." Izraella laughed.

"Shut up." Maia pushed her friends shoulder playfully, a ghost of a smile appeared on Maias face and Izraella laughed in response.

"I'm glad we found you." Izraella smiled and Maia did the same in return just with an added exhaustion.

"How'd you end up here?" Jacqui asked. "Came with my little sister and someone else, got hauled up by a herd, I told her to run and I found the tank and stayed there." Maia explained not daring to make eye contact, her voice monotone, and Izraella raised her eyebrows.

"You were with Luna?" Izraella asked. "Yeah, I have no clue, where she went, I'm not even sure if she's alive." Maia looked at her feet.

"And Anthony, last I heard from him he was with his ex, and that's when this shit started." Maia shook her head, her tone getting more defensive and her sharpening got more aggressive.

"Wait, you know, Luna and Anthony?" T-dog asked and Maia turned to him confused.

"Yes, they're my siblings, how do you know them?" Maia's ear basically perked up as she interrogated T-dog.

"They're back at our camp, Glenn found Luna in a dumpster." T-dog replied seeing as the women was getting emotional.

Maias eyes began to well up in shock and joy, she looked at Glenn with a small smile.

"Thank you." Maia smiled and Glenn smiled softly in return at her reaction.

Maia was smiling so genuinely and gave Izarella a hug and Jacqui, T-dog and Glenn, watched the interaction with small smiles.

Glenn was pretty much silent most of the time, Maia felt his eyes on her and every once in a while she would catch him staring but she didn't think anything of it.

Maia felt like everytime she looked at Glenn, he reminded her of someone, she just didn't know who.

"What about the sewers?" Rick suggested.

The group had been on the roof for a while now trying to get signal, and the tension had finally died down after the whole 'Dixon debacle'.

Morales' ears perked up at Ricks suggestion.

"Hey, Glenn, check the alley, you see any manhole covers?" He asked and the man in the baseball cap stood up and ran to the other side of the roof looking for manholes in the alley.

He checked for the manhole covers and to his despair there were none and made him run back to where the rest were.

"No, must be all out on the street where the geeks are." Glenn spoke running to them.

"Maybe not, old building like this built in the '20s, big structures often had draining tunnels into the sewers, in case of flooding— down in the subbasements." Jacqui explained.

"How do you know that?" Glenn asked. "It's my job...Was." Jacqui started. "I worked in the City Zoning office."

"She's right, during my ROTC training a man got stuck in a manhole and it lead to a building, it's how we got him out." Maia piped up causing everyone to look at her confused.

"He was stupid, alright?" Maia answered their un-asked questions.

"That's why you smelt like sewer?" Izraella asked. "Yeah, yeah I was the one to get him out, it was disgusting." Maia spoke with disgust plastered all over her face and Glenn let out a small chuckle causing Maia to glance at him.

Everyone was now following Glenn to the bottom of the building where they found a way into the sewer.

"This is it, are you sure?" Morales asked pointing his flashlight into the sewer. "I really scoped this place out the other times i was here." Glenn started.

"It's the only thing in the building that goes down, but i've never gone down it." He says pointing his flashlight into the sewer.

"Who'd want to, right?" He asked and everyone turned their heads to him. "Oh, great." The realization hit him and disgust was brought onto his expression.

"We'll be right behind you." Andrea reassured. "No, you won't, not you." Glenn argued with Andrea.

"Why not me, think I can't?" Andrea retaliated. "I wasn't..." Glenn dragged out.

Izraella and Maia looked at each other when Andrea spoke giving each other a knowing look before they were interrupted by the sound of Ricks voice.

"Speak your mind." Rick told Glenn causing Maia and Izraella to focus back on the conversation.

"Look, until now I always came here by myself." Glenn started and everyone's eyes were on him and Maia put her hand over her mouth as she yawned.

"In and out, grab a few things, no problem." Glenn pauses before looking around the group. "The first time I bring a group everything goes to hell. No offense." Glenn ends his explanation.

"If you want me to go down this gnarly hole, fine, but only if we do it my way, it's tight down there." Glenn starts.

"If i run into something and have to get out quick, I don't want you all jammed up behind me getting me killed." Glenn stated and Izraella came up with an idea.

"Glenn, don't you think it's better if you take at least one of us down with you? I mean someone with experience?" Izraella suggested and Glenn looked at her confused before saying.

"I'll take one person, not you either." Glenn said pointing to Rick.

"You've got Merle's gun and I've seen you shoot, I'd feel better if you were out in that store watching those doors, covering our ass." Glenn stated.

"You two got the only other guns so you should go with him." He said to Maia and Andrea.

"Actually I'll go with Andrea. Maia give me your gun." Izraella said and Maia looked at her confused. "What?" Maia asked.

"Just give me your gun." Izraella stated. "Fine." Maia handed over her gun.

"You be my wingman. Jacqui stays here." Glenn points at Morales, before Izarella perks up.

"Glenn, I think you should take Maia with you, she knows her way through the sewers." Izraella points out and Maia looks at Izraella in disbelief before Glenn thinks it over.

"Okay, you're with me, Jacqui, Morales, something happens, yell down to us, get us back up here in a hurry." Glenn sighs in sense of frustration, pointing to Maia.

"Okay." Morales and Jacqui speak in unison.

Maia looks to Glenn with a blank stare and makes eye contact with him, however he can't seem to hold eye contact and he looks away quickly.

"Okay, everybody knows their jobs." Rick says patting Glenn's back.

Glenn nods to Maia and puts a torch in his mouth and starts to climb down the ladder as the rest shine their flashlights down into the hole.

"Here." Izraella gives Maia the flashlight in her hand. "Funny enough this is gonna be the second encounter this week i have had to go into a sewer." Maia takes the flashlight and follows Glenn down the ladder.

"So that's why you smell bad." Izraella teases slightly and Maia rolls her eyes at the comment.

"You ready?" Glenn asks Maia who gives him a blank stare, before replying. "We're going into a sewer, I'm as ready as i'll ever get."

"Fair enough." He clears his throat as he gets to the bottom of the ladder and he shines the flashlight in the direction of the entrance.

Maia takes her Bow and arrow off her back and loads an arrow into the bow string and waits for Glenn to give a signal.

The rest of the group, who were to go to the store, went, whilst Jacqui and Morales stayed on a watch.

Glenn walks in front of Maia and walks in behind him.

"So uh, what brought you to the city?" He tried to create small talk as some awkward tension filled the air between them.

"No time for small talk, we're in a sewer." Maia deadpans as she hears a rat squeak. She flinched slightly and holds her bow and arrow close.

"Ugh, disgusting." Maia's face scrunches up in disgust as she muttered. The two walk forward and the smell of the sewer finally wafts into their faces.

The rat squeals again and Glenn groans as they walk deeper into the sewer. "Go left." Maia says directing Glenn. "Why?" He asks.

"Because the left always has the exit or is nearest to an exit in the sewer, obviously." She says as if it was an obvious conversation.

"No, i did not know that, why do you know that?" He asks looking at her oddly.

"ROTC teaches more than just military training, I'm afraid." She sighs before they turn left.

Silence fills the atmosphere once again but Glenn is determined to break it.

"I didn't know you, Anthony and Luna were siblings." Glenn tries to start up the conversation again as the silence became even more awkward, you could sense it.

"Yeah, we are, Anthony is my twin brother." She says in an unimpressed tone. "I mean they said they had a sister, just didn't think it was you." Glenn says before Maia looks at him confused.

"The hell is that supposed to mean?" She says as they continued walking.

"I don't know, you don't seem like how they described." Glenn said nervously. "How did they describe me?" Maia asks.

"They said you were sweet, kind, badass, bit of a bitch, Anthony's words." Glenn said and Maia just rolls her eyes not saying anything else.

They continued walking in silence before they spotted a sewer tunnel. "You were right." Glenn admitted shining his flashlight.

"Yep, got ourselves a sewer tunnel." Maia said stepping next to Glenn.

"Jacqui was right." Glenn said before turning to Maia. "You think we can cut through it?" He asked.

"If we had a blowtorch and half a day, we could try?" Maia said.

The two stood there looking at the tunnel with bars and heard water drip. Before they found a walker feeding on a rat.

It's arm launched out in front of them causing them to flinch and Maia sighed out a "Son of bitch."

Glenn and Maia both took a step back, and looked at it with wide eyes as the walker growled. "So, no?" Maia turned to Glenn and he shook his head, his lips forming into a thin line.

hello my beautiful readers!
this is chapter three of Incapable and I enjoy writing this book so much!! Maia and Glenn are interacting and Izraella and Maias friendship has been introduced and I love it so much.
Maia and Glenn have finally interacted sort of properly but I cannot wait for their development.
We will get the Koa family to reunite I promise but that will be in the next chapter.
