━︎━︎━︎━︎"𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐔𝐂𝐊 𝐀𝐓 this game." Rosanna chuckled, taking two more of his checkers.
"This game is stupid!" Ray huffed.
"You're just being a sore loser." Rosanna said, smirking in amusement.
"Don't you have homework to do?" Ray asked.
Rosanna stood. "You know, now that you mention it, I actually do."
"No, wait, I was kidding!" He whined. "This is father daughter time."
"Don't you have some woman you can bother?" Rosanna replied.
"How dare of you think of me so lowly!" Ray said as he pulled out his phone.
Rosanna smirked. "Thought so." She went to her room, pulling out her English homework and sighing. It was only supposed to be a small essay, one fully written page front and back on the book they were reading in class. She'd been staring at the book for an hour, trying to figure out what she wanted to write before a knock came on her door. She dropped the book, spinning in her chair. "Enter."
The door opened and Ray stood there in his uniform. "I'm heading out. The Toddler's still on the loose."
"No Henry?"
Ray rolled his eyes. "He wanted to go to his best friend's birthday party. Because that's more important than fighting crime."
Rosanna sent him a look. "Dad, he is still a kid. Plus, he's new at this. He'll eventually learn how to balance his personal and work life, you just gotta give him time."
Ray waved a hand. "Yeah, yeah."
Rosanna rolled her eyes. "Alright there's no need to be dramatic. Be safe." Ray gave her a firm nod before leaving the room. Rosanna turned back to her homework. One sentence grabbed her attention and instantly she smiled. The words flowed from her pencil and onto the page and before she knew it she was finished. She smiled proudly at her work, stuffing the homework into her English folder and putting it into her bag. She walked out of the room and into the main area of the Man Cave.
She sat down at the desk, planning to turn on her show, but her finger slipped and she hit the wrong button. The news popped up and before she could turn it off she paused, a deep frown falling on her lips when she saw her dads picture on the screen. Quickly, she turned up the volume. "Though while reports are unclear, we do have confirmation that Captain Man has been captured and is being held a secret location."
Rosanna's eyes widened. "No." She chewed on her bottom lip. "Henry, where are you?" She grabbed her phone, quickly dialing her dads number. She knew he wouldn't answer, but she had to try. It rang and rang and rang until it went to voicemail. A soft curse left her lips and she tried again. And again. And again. But it just kept going to voicemail. Her heart slammed in her chest as she paced the floor, holding her phone tightly in her hands. She wished she had Henry's number, she'd have to get it from him for emergencies such as this.
Maybe he saw the news. Maybe he found her dad and is helping him now. But what if he hadn't? He was at a birthday party, of course he hadn't. Her heart slammed violently in her chest, her rushing blood entered her ears. Her hands were clutched in her hair, scared and stressed tears lined her vision. She forced herself to sit on the couch, the panic wrapping around her body. She needed to breathe. She needed to calm down. Hours passed and still she had heard nothing. Until the tube came down and her father entered.
Rosanna shot up from the couch, staring at her dad and watching as he tossed the birthday hat off his head. Rosanna stared at the party hat, her eyes snapping towards her dad. "Where have you been?"
"Oh, Henry asked me to drop by Jasper's party after he saved me from the Toddler―︎"
Rosanna interrupted him. "I have been sitting here worrying, and panicking, and thinking you were dead. And you were at a birthday party?!" Ray opened his mouth to speak but she quickly cut him off. "I have been calling you for hours! You couldn't give me the decency of calling me back? Or even text me to let me know you were okay? Seriously, Dad? What is wrong with you?"
Ray carefully walked towards her. "Rosie. . ."
Rosanna took a step back. "No. Don't apologize to me, I don't want to hear it." An angry tear slipped down her cheek and she quickly swiped it away. "You can't do that. You can't. Understand? Because I can't come out and help you and I can't come find you because that'll compromise us both." She clenched her jaw, shaking her head. "Glad you're not dead." She turned and started to walk away.
"Rosie." Ray called after her but she ignored him. "Rosanna." She left the room, leaving Ray to stand there, feeling like a complete idiot.

━︎━︎━︎━︎𝐀 𝐅𝐄𝐖 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 had passed, and boy did his daughter know how to hold a grudge. She refused to speak with him and even when he offered a movie night, she didn't budge. Instead she closed the door in his face. He knew he had to make it up to her. Ray couldn't stand it when she was mad at him. A giant breakfast sat on the table and he smiled proudly at himself, glancing up when the gear door went up and Rosanna walked out with her bag on her shoulder.
"Hey, before you go to school, I made you breakfast." Ray called.
"I'm good." Rosanna mumbled, fixing her bag on her shoulder.
"Come on. You have a big test today, it's not good to take a test on an empty stomach." Rosanna stared at him. "Please." She sighed, rolling her eyes before sitting at the table and placing her bag on the floor. She grabbed some eggs and bacon and a pancake, soaking it in syrup before she began to silently eat.
Ray sat across from her, his foot tapping against the floor. She wouldn't even look at him. "Rosie, I'm sorry." Rosanna said nothing. "You were right. I should have called and told you I was alright. It won't happen again, I swear." She glanced up at him before going back to her food. He pressed his lips together. "Okay, what if I pinky swear. You always said that once you do one of those you can't break it or bad things happen."
Rosanna placed down her fork, staring at him with a straight face. "Your promise it won't happen again?"
He held out his pinky. "I pinky promise."
After a moment she reluctantly sighed. "Fine." She hooked her pinky with his before letting go. He smiled at her. "I've gotta get to school." She stood, shouldering her bag.
Ray stood as well, walking over to her and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Good luck on the test." Rosanna nodded before walking over to the tubes, standing under her dad's tube. "Hey." She paused, looking at him. "I love you, kiddo."
She managed a small smile. "Love you too." She looked up. "Up the tube." She shot up the tube before making her way to school. She made her way to her history class, sitting down just as the bell rang. As the tests were passed out, Rosanna took a deep breath before she instantly began answering everything. She'd studied for hours the night before I was fairly confident.
She glanced up when her teacher started calling Henry's name, the boy fast asleep on his desk. She scrunched her nose up when Miss Shapen stuck her finger in her mouth and then into Henry's ear and yelled his name making the boy shoot up. "Whoa, what happened?!" He yelled. He glanced around the room before placing a finger to his wet ear. "Did you give me a wet willy?"
Charlotte, who was sitting behind him, hummed. "Mhm. It was real wet."
Miss Shapen pointed at him. "You slept through your entire test."
"I did?"
Miss Shapen glanced around in disbelief. "You all see this boy? This is what happens when you stay up all night on Twistflash and Twiddlegram."
Jasper, who was sitting in front of Rosanna, raised his hand. "Excuse me, Miss Shapen?"
"What?"
"Can I have a wet willy?"
Miss Shapen just stared at him. Rosanna took the opportunity to stand up, handing in her test. She went to walk away but Miss Shapen grabbed her shoulders. "See, you should be like Rosanna here. I don't even have to look at her test to know she got an A+!" Rosanna's face grew warm and she glanced at all the students that were staring at her before removing herself from her teacher's grasp, grabbing her bag and quickly leaving the room.
As soon as the last bell rang, Rosanna made her way home. Ray glanced up when she walked in. "Hey, sweetie, how was the test?"
"It was fine until she embarrassed me in front of the class." Rosann muttered, sitting on the couch and tossing her bag to the side. Ray frowned. "Henry fell asleep in class and then used me as an example of an exemplary student."
Ray stood, walking over to her. "I don't see what's wrong with that."
Rosanna sighed, looking at her dad. "Dad, I already don't have any friends. No one is going to want to be my friend if they think I'm just some smart girl who's only going to want to talk about math or how vaccine's are made or something like that."
Ray scoffed, sitting beside her. "What? Come on. You have friends."
Rosanna met his eyes. "No I don't."
"But you always said―︎"
"I didn't want you to worry about me." Rosanna mumbled. "So I lied and told you I had plenty of friends, but I don't. I'm alone. You're my only friend. Do you see how sad that is?"
Ray nodded. "It is pretty sad." Rosanna glared at him. "Right. Sorry." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, kid. You'll make plenty of friends."
"But will I?" She said the words softly to herself, but Ray clearly heard them.
"What do you say we go out for pizza tonight?"
Rosanna nodded. "Sure."
"Cheer up. It's going to be great." He smiled at her before walking away.
"Yeah."
The pizza was in fact great, Rosanna had relished it, and of course being able to spend time with her dad outside of the Man Cave was great too, something they didn't do as often as they should. Of course, the night had to be ruined when they got home and the alarm bells immediately went off. A prison break. Her dad quickly contacted Henry who claimed he would be there in ten minutes.
When the ten minutes flew past, Rosanna frowned. "You'll have to go without him."
Ray let out a frustrated groan before pressing a swift kiss to her forehead and leaving. Rosanna fell asleep and when she woke up the next morning, she cursed when she realized how late for school she was. "Crap!" She shot out bed, quickly throwing on her clothes and running and brush through her hair and brushing her teeth before snatching her bag from the floor and running out of the room. When she got to the main entrance of the Man Cave, she tripped over her footing, grabbing onto the couch to keep her from planting face first.
Ray glanced at her. "Morning, honey!"
"Why didn't you wake me up?!" Rosanna screeched. "I'm going to be la--what's happening?" She looked from her dad and pointed at Henry who was sitting in a white chair, Gooch scanning him with a small device.
Ray smiled. "You'll see."
"Do I want to see?" Rosanna muttered, jumping over the back of the couch and crossing her legs over the other.
"I don't have time to relax!" Henry cried out.
"Exactly!" Ray snapped his fingers towards him. "Your only problem is a lack of time."
"Imagine if you could do all of your studying for school in only thirty seconds." Gooch explained.
Henry frowned. "How can I learn anything in thirty seconds?"
"Well, if you were like Rosie, you could." Ray said and Rosanna rolled her eyes. "But you're not. So, there's this." He held up a machine that would go on top of Henry's head. "The cerebral data transducer. Or as we call it, the H.R.Z."
Gooch continued, "This device can transfer knowledge from a data source directly into your brain."
Ray smiled. "At 90 million digibles per second."
Henry smiled in awe before it fell. "Why am I locked in a chair?" He pulled at the restraints around his wrists.
"Do you want to get a good grade on your Puerto Rican math test?" Ray asked.
"History," Rosanna and Henry corrected in unison.
"Same thing."
Rosanna cocked her head to the side. "Very opposite things."
Ray looked at her. "Don't you have somewhere to be?"
Rosanna shrugged. "I'm quite comfortable."
Gooch interrupted the banter. "Let us begin the procedure."
Ray placed the device on Henry's head which also covered his eyes and began glowing. "Now, I'll set the computer to acquire all the world's historical knowledge on Puerto Rico."
Henry laughed. "Whoa, intense."
Rosanna leaned back against the couch. "Oh, this is not going to go well."
"Silence, you." Ray pointed at her and Rosanna smiled with amusement.
"Will this hurt?" Henry asked.
"Yes, very much." Gooch answered.
Ray started the device and Henry began screaming and thrashing in the chair. Rosanna rose a brow, biting down on her nail as she sat and watched. Slowly, Ray deactivated the device and Henry let out heavy breaths. Gooch and Ray removed the device and restraints and Ray looked at the boy. "Well?"
Henry looked at him in disbelief. "That hurt bad!"
"Yes, but tell us about Puerto Rico." Gooch ushered.
Henry went to protest before he started spitting out facts about Puerto Rico. Rosanna couldn't help herself as she smiled, completely impressed. He smiled. "Whoa! I know Puerto Rico!"
Ray sat the device down. "You see. With this you can learn anything you need to know for school in a matter of seconds."
Henry stood. "Yeah." He paused. "Wait. You think it's cheating?"
Both adults spoke their disagreements and Rosanna said, "Technically, in a way, yes."
Ray waved her off. "Ignore her." Rosanna scoffed.
"I guess." Henry started towards the elevator. "Anyways, I really doing this appreciate you for me."
Rosanna cocked her head. "Sorry, can you repeat that?"
"It's the side effects." Gooch informed.
Henry grew panicked. "What side effects?"
Ray carefully walked forwards. "You see, after you use the H.R.Z., when you talk, you might mix up your words for a few days."
"Well, you could have before that you told me!" Henry shouted.
"You broke his brain." Rosanna chuckled.
Gooch shrugged. "The important thing is you're gonna do well on your test."
"Yeah." Henry then screamed, a high pitched scream, a sound that would come from a little girl. His face shifted into one of horror. "Why did I just--"
Gooch winced. "That's another side effect."
Ray continued, "Sometimes you'll scream like―︎" Henry screamed again, "―︎a girl."
Gooch waved a hand. "For a few days."
"Oh, so I'm a girl like a days for a few screams." Henry paused. "Wait." He screamed again.
Ray pursed his lips. "You guys wanna get lunch?"
"Yes." Gooch immediately said.
Ray pointed to Rosanna. "Rosie, free skip day?" Rosanna shrugged and nodded, jumping up off the couch as her dad and Gooch walked by, her dad wrapping an arm around her shoulders. They walked out, leaving Henry by himself.
Rosanna let out a chuckle. "Tomorrow's going to be interesting."
"I'm sure he'll be fine." Ray firmly nodded, pulling her closer. Rosanna only shook her head, the smile not leaving her lips.
