"nicks gonna scream at us as soon as we get back to the car."
"oh one-hundred percent," matt easily agrees with aurora sitting next to him, turning to face her as he says, "i'll just blame you though."
"what!" she instantly exclaims, her jaw dropping. "you literally ordered this big ass cake only thirty minutes ago and expected it to be done in five minutes."
the two are currently sat together in a booth at this random cake place. chris and nick are waiting in the car for them because they're just ready to get to the party and surprise raven already but the cake is taking forever to get done. for some massively strange reason, aurora and matt are right next to each other in one side of the booth even though the other side is completely empty.
"yeah but..." he trails off for a moment before shrugging. "it seems like it'd be something you'd do."
"die, matt," she instantly responds, matt chuckling at how quick she always is to say that. "seriously die."
"you know you always say that but what would you do if i actually died?" matt asks her pointedly, her just blinking at him as he continues with a cross of his arms. "huh? what would you do?"
"i don't know... giggle?"
"what the fuck! that is such a lie," matt instantly argues, aurora already rolling her eyes and leaning over the table in front of them. "you would definitely cry."
"not even a single tear," aurora yawns. she literally yawns.
"fuck you," matt leans forward on the table as well, resting his arms over it as he shakes his head. "no, you would probably be the type to make a whole big scene and like.. jump in the casket with my corpse."
auroras lips part and her eyebrows furrow deeply, turning to him and giving him a dumbfounded expression. "literally what the fuck goes through your brain anymore?"
"i..." matt trails off with a sigh. "yeah, i don't even know."
"did the sugar from those donuts get to your head?" she tilts her head at him. "be honest."
he opens his mouth to respond, pauses, and shuts it. after a moment, he opens it again. "die."
"woah?" auroras instantly exclaiming. "that is literally my line. stop copying me for once, bro."
"bro?" matt raises his eyebrows, not paying attention to anything else as he focuses on the last word. "i'm starting to think you talk to kingston too much. you're starting to talk like him."
"no. kingstons my dawg, bro," she sighs, leaning back and crossing her arms. see, if kingston was here, he'd probably be high and cracking up right now.
matt's face just scrunches up. "the bros have gotta go."
"what?" she tilts her head, a teasing grin on her face because she is seriously the funniest person in the world. "you don't want to be bros?"
he blinks. "no, aurora, i don't want to be bros."
"ugh, boring." she rolls her eyes with a groan, reaching into her back pocket and pulling out her phone. she raises it over the table and raises her eyebrows when she turns it on to see a notification from chris. she reads over it and shows it to matt. "chris texted me like five minutes ago saying to hurry the fuck up because they're ready to go."
"well, we can't leave until the cakes ready," he says, glancing away from her phone once he's done reading. "it's just a party, i don't get why everyone's so hyped."
"yeah well, it is ravens birthday," aurora brings up, earning a nod from him. she glances over his face and notices he's a little off though so she puts her phone back into her back pocket and scoots just a tad closer to him. she taps her fingers on the table, glancing at him once more before speaking up, "do you still have anxiety with that type of thing?"
matt's taken aback by the question, glancing over to the girl for a second before sighing and turning back to the table in front of them. "i don't even know," he shrugs. "high school parties are one thing because you usually know everyone or have at least heard of them but there's gonna be influencers and shit at this one which is just..." he trails off, not knowing how to explain it.
"i get what you mean," aurora instantly responds because she knows matt and she does know what he means. "i'm sure it'll be fine. we'll all be there."
"mhm," he hums simply.
aurora frowns at his lack of enthusiasm and falls silent for a moment. she needs a way to ensure him he'll be fine but she's not sure how. after a long few seconds with nothing said between them, she gets an idea.
"hey," she suddenly speaks up, matt raising his eyebrows slightly and turning to her. "if you like.. get overwhelmed with anything and just wanna get out, you can like.." she trails off for a moment before hesitantly reaching out for his hand. his eyes instantly shoot to the touch and he watches as she raises his hand up and begins to... interlock their pinkies? "grab my pinkie like this so we can leave without you having to actually say anything."
matt's silent for a second too long before he finally glances away from their hands and back to aurora. "okay first of all," he starts, aurora already sighing and dropping his hand. "i'm getting lover boy flashbacks right now."
"fuck off. i was trying to be nice." she rolls her eyes, taking her hand off the table completely and instead crossing her arms over her chest.
"second of all," matt starts again with a narrowing of his eyes. "i'm not a baby, aurora."
"i'm not saying you're a baby, you idiot," she argues, also narrowing her eyes now. "it's completely normal to want to get out of a crowded place and sometimes i want to too so i'm just telling you, you don't have to say anything. you can just grab my pinkie or whatever the fuck and we can leave together if you want to."
"oh."
"yeah."
silence.
"this is why i'm not nice! because now it's awkward... like.. i literally-"
"okay, okay shut up," matt cuts her off with a roll of his eyes, grabbing the hand she moved off the table and putting it back on the table, this time with his crossed over hers. "the pinkie thing just threw me off for a second."
"mhm," she hums.
"seriously!" he exclaims, sighing when she just blinks at him. "you can grab my pinkie too or whatever.. if you wanna leave," he eventually speaks again.
"really?" she asks, him nodding his head. "maybe i should be nice more often."
"i like it when you're mean though," he shrugs, aurora just narrowing her eyes at him.
"you're not supposed to like it, weirdo." she scoffs.
"yeah, i do though," he sighs lazily, aurora rolling her eyes at him.
"i'll stop being nice then," she tells him.
"wait no," matt instantly responds, aurora holding back an amused smile from how quickly he backs up. "i like that too. just... keep it fifty-fifty."
"well, anything for you, i fucking guess," she says sarcastically, tilting her head at him. "anything else you want, matt?" she asks jokingly.
you.
woah?... let's not say that, matt!
"are you good?"
matt snaps out of his thoughts with a shake of his head? "what?" he asks, looking back up at her while thoughts still swarm around in his head. what the fuck is going on with him today?
"your face just did a little thing there," she points out, narrowing her eyes at him just slightly.
"did it? wow, that's really weird. i don't even-"
"birthday cake for the name of raven?" a call out from the counter cuts him off, thank fucking god.
aurora and matt both turn their heads in that direction and aurora seemingly drops the subject as she pulls her hand out from under his. she stands up and scoots out of the seat, matt following after her with a small clearing of his throat.
when they make it to the counter and set their eyes on the cake, it's quite big. it's kind of got to be since they're taking it to a party but matt's eyes still widen. "this is fucking huge, woah."
aurora giggles. "that's what she said."
matt pauses, turning to her and sighing. "maybe you should go back to the hotel and the rest of us will go to the party."
"ha," aurora says in a monotone voice. "funny."
"well, thank fucking god," nick groans loudly as soon as the drivers and passenger seats open. "only took you two a full hour."
aurora instantly locks eyes with matt. "told you."
matt sighs and climbs inside his seat, turning to nick in the back once he's situated. "we can't control how long it takes for the cake to be made, you idiot."
aurora climbs in her seat and shuts the door behind her as matt also shuts his. she then adjusts the cake she set down on her lap and holds it up to show to nick. "especially when the cakes this fucking big."
"woah," chris leans forward from the seat next to nick to also take a look at it. "sick cake."
"such a way with words. truly," aurora mutters jokingly, earning an eye roll from matt as she brings the cake box back down on her lap.
"shut up," chris laughs before sitting up further in his seat. "can we please go now though? i'm pretty sure literally everyone is there except for us."
"there's nothing wrong in being fashionably late," aurora shrugs.
"it's a surprise party and we have the cake," matt deadpans.
"well," aurora sighs, reaching for the aux cord as she speaks. "way to take the fun out of it, matt."
matt just rolls his eyes as chris' jaw drops and he leans forward into the space between the drivers and passenger seat. "what the fuck? rory, you're not getting aux. fuck off."
"what the fuck?" her mouth falls open in offense as chris snatches the cord from her hands. "yes, i am, you fucking bozo." she yanks the cord away from him.
"no, you're n-" he starts again as he yanks the cord away from her for the second time.
"guys!" matt snaps, stopping from where he was beginning to pull the car out of the parking space and turning to them. he glances between the two before sighing and looking to chris. "just let it go."
"WHAT THE FUCK," chris immediately shouts as aurora sends him a triumphant smile and successfully pulls the cord from his hands.
"she's shotgun so she gets aux," matt just shrugs as chris scoffs and sits back in his seat.
"no, fuck off. you're so whipped it actually disgusts me," he crosses his arms like an annoyed, pouty child. "of course you would choose your girlfr-"
"chris." matt cuts him off with a glare.
"oh, my bad. sorry," he rolls his eyes. "i meant your girlfriend that isn't actually your girlfriend but is basically your g-"
"CHRIS."
"WHAT THE FUCK?" nick shouts, his mouth agape. "DOES CHRIS KNOW SOMETHING I DON'T?"
aurora turns to matt with a dropped jaw as he awkwardly taps on the steering wheel. "you told chris?"
"told uh.. told chris what?" he tries.
"nick, bud, i wanna tell you but i've gotta respect my boy matt, i guess," chris sighs as nicks shocked, offended expression doesn't falter.
"I THOUGHT WE HAD THE FUCKING TRIPLET CODE SHIT. THE FUCK?" nick yells loudly.
chris pauses for a second before turning to matt. "sorry, matt," he says, matt instantly opening his mouth to warn him not to say anything but ultimately being too late as chris turns back to matt. "MATT AND RORY ARE LIKE DATING BECAUSE THEY AREN'T SEEING ANYONE BUT EACH OTHER BUT DON'T WANT TO SAY THEY'RE DATING BECAUSE APPARENTLY THEY 'STILL HATE EACH OTHER' OR WHATEV-"
"WHY WOUKD YOU FUCKING TELL CHRIS, YOU IDIOT?" chris gets cut off by aurora beginning to yell at matt.
"I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. IT JUST CAME OUT." matt yells back, beginning to yell because everyone is yelling so he needs to yell too.
"WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK." nick yells.
somehow, they all get to the party just in time to put the cake up right before venus and raven arrive at the place. there's complete and utter chaos between the group of friends at the sudden confirmation of matt and auroras 'relationship' but they all calm for ravens party, as calm as they can be at least.
it's completely worth it too when they watch ravens nonchalant expression morph into one of shock and then happiness as she walks through the door. her girlfriend is right behind her too of course and every thing is a complete success.
"HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY!" aurora shouts once raven approaches the group, a wide smile on her face as she's the first to pull the girl into a hug.
"thank you, rory," she grins at her. "we're all older than you now, you fucking loser."
"shut the fuck up," aurora rolls her eyes amusedly, taking a step back as they separate from their hug. "i'll be just like you in a couple months."
"yeah but now you're the baby of the group," she sighs happily, aurora just sighing as she turns to the rest of the group. "where the fuck did you find all these people though? like i'm pretty sure i saw vinnie hacker?"
"woah, woah, woah," aurora speaks up before anyone can even answer. "did you say vinnie hacker?"
"i mean.. i don't know if it was him but like-"
"happy birthday, bae! i'll see you later," she sends her a rushed smile, stepping up and pressing a peck to her cheek before genuinely turning away and rushing off into another direction.
a few seconds of silence and then,
"what the fuck." matt blinks.
"wow," chris sighs. "kids lost his girlfriend that's not actually his girlfriend to vinnie hacker in a mere five seconds."
"shut the fuck up, chris."
"wait did you say girlfrien-"
"LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE DONE."
aurora did not find vinnie hacker. she's heavily disappointed.
somehow she ended up on the bathroom floor with this random drunk girl named sadie crying about her boy issues. she was trying to go to the bathroom and went inside because it was unlocked but she found sadie so... here she is now.
"so you remember train guy?" sadie slurs from the inside of bath tub.
"the one you made out with?" aurora questions, she's been told so many stories in the past ten minutes she's losing track.
"yeah, yeah that one. well-" aurora loses focus as the girl continues to go on a drunken ramble because of a vibrating coming from her phone. she picks it up as the girl continues to speak and raises her eyebrows at the notification.
dumb fucking bitch i hate
where are you

aurora glances up at the blonde girl talking in the bath tub and gives a nod to whatever she's saying before typing something back.

aurora ultimately leaves the bathroom with saide alongside her because she refuses to leave a drunk girl in a bathroom alone. she separates from her though once she spots a friend of hers and instantly runs over to her with a giggle. aurora sends her a farewell before continuing her journey downstairs to the kitchen by herself.
she's almost to the kitchen and she can literally spot matt leant against a counter on his phone when she suddenly bumps into someone. "oh shit, my bad," she instantly apologizes.
"nah, you're good," the guy says. auroras about to just shoot him a polite smile and walk past him when she actually sets her eyes on him and pauses.
"holy shit."
the guy is taken aback instantly and raises his eyebrows at the girl. "you alright?"
"i.." the girl loses her words for a second because what is one supposed to say when vinnie hacker is front of you? "you're vinnie hacker."
he pauses for a moment before chuckling. "yeah, i am," he says, unsure of what else to respond with.
"sorry, sorry. that probably sounded weird," auroras face scrunches up. there is no way she can embarrass herself in front of vinnie hacker right now. "i just follow you on tiktok and i think you're really cool."
"oh, thanks," he sends her a genuine smile. "what's your name?"
"aurora," she answers. "my friends and i threw this party actually."
"oh shit, really?" he raises his eyebrows. "do you know who's birthday it is?"
"yeah, it's my friend ravens," she tells him.
"tell her i said happy birthday then." he grins.
"yeah, of course," she responds, setting her eyes behind him and finding matt in the kitchen again. this time though, his eyes are off his phone and have instead found her. his face is scrunched up and aurora turns back to vinnie with a clear of her throat. "it was really nice meeting you." she smiles at him.
"yeah, you too," he responds genuinely. "see ya, aurora."
"see ya, vinnie," she responds back, him shooting her one last grin before walking off elsewhere. aurora begins to walk to where matt is through the kitchen, having to push past some people because of the ridiculous amount of people here.
"took you long enough." matt rolls his eyes when she comes to stand next to him, his eyes going to linger on vinnie walking somewhere else before turning to her.
"there's literally no rush. calm down," she tells him, glancing around the area for a second before looking back at him. "where's the girl?"
"huh?" his eyebrows furrow.
"you said there was a girl hanging on you." she narrows her eyes at him.
"oh..." he trails off for a moment before shrugging. "yeah no, i just needed an excuse for you to actually come down here."
she sighs, glancing at the counter behind her and noticing a few stray red solo cups spread over it. she carelessly moves them elsewhere and hops up on the counter to sit on it. matt's face scrunches up as she does so. "there's probably germs up there."
"i think i'll be fine," she rolls her eyes. "who's house even is this?"
"not a clue," matt answers with a sigh. "i think it's some friend chris hung out with last time we were in LA."
"seems right," she says, a moment of silence spreading between them before aurora sighs and speaks again, "i still can't believe you told him."
"they were gonna find out eventually," matt shrugs as auroras hands fall to rest against the edge of the counter next to her each of her legs.
"yeah but i liked that it was a secret," she sighs.
matt furrows his eyebrows and moves to stand in front of her. "why?"
"dunno," she shrugs. "it was like a dirty little secret type of thing, more fun, i guess."
"are you quoting that one 2000s song?" matt raises his eyebrows.
auroras taken aback for a second before she laughs slightly. "yes, matt," she tilts her head at him. "i'm surprised you know that song. do you even know the song that's playing right now?"
"uh..." he trails off, trying to listen to the song playing throughout the house as his face scrunches up. "i hear it on tiktok a lot."
"it's friends by chase atlantic," she tells him. "god, how do you not know that song?"
"i don't know," he sighs. "the fans have been telling me to listen to him i'm pretty sure."
"him?" aurora grins teasingly, finding his obliviousness amusing. "it's a band, matt."
"oh," he blinks, feeling dumb but grinning just a little bit at auroras own grin. "i feel dumb now."
aurora just laughs and a silence falls between them, the only thing being heard is the loud conversations of other partygoers around them. the two just look at each other, the chase atlantic song still playing loudly in the background. auroras not sure if they're like... about to kiss or something so she's about to speak up but matt beats her to it. "so... i guess the secrets out now," he says.
"guess so," aurora agrees, unsure of where he's going with this.
matt nods solemnly for a second before attempting to shrug nonchalantly. "i wonder if vinnie knows then."
aurora blinks, immediately seeing right through him and tilting her head. "there's no way," she speaks, laughing under her breath just slightly. "vinnie has done nothing! don't even start this."
"start what?"
"matt," she groans, beginning to roll her eyes as he rests both of his hands against the edge of the counter next to hers. "i'm not doing this whole thing. if you're jealous, just say that."
he narrows his eyes at her for a moment, slight tension between the two as they glance over each other. ultimately, he sighs. "okay." he takes a step forward and leans down just slightly closer to her, aurora glancing up at him as she's still sat on the counter. "i'm jealous."
auroras breath hitches for a second because why does he like.. actually have a way with words?
she eventually gains her composure and shrugs nonchalantly. "well, there's no reason to be," she tells him, reaching down and placing her hands over his on the counter. matt glances down at the touch for a second before looking back to her. "i'm practically all yours and that's not really a secret anymore, right?"
matt's lips part, heart practically beating out of his chest because he really, never in a million years, would've thought he'd ever hear her say any words like that to him before. "right," he says, basically breathless now. "does that mean i can kiss you in public now?"
aurora hums. "that's a good question."
"you should figure out a good answer then," he tells her quietly.
"why's that?" she raises her eyebrows.
"because i don't really care that we're in public, i just want to kiss you."
auroras lips part and she gulps. "you don't care about the twenty other people just in this room?"
"no," he answers easily. "not them."
"then who?" she asks.
"you, you know that."
"i do," she hums quietly, glancing down to his lips and then back up to his eyes. "you gonna kiss me now?"
"you haven't told me i can yet," he tells her, her amusedly rolling her eyes because it should be obvious by how she's talking.
"you can kiss me, matt."
and just like that, his lips are on hers.
"every time i have to repeat the fact that me and raven are in fact lesbians and dating, i lose a fucking brain cell."
"hello to you too, vee," aurora responds with a sigh as venus carelessly plops down on the spot on the couch next to her. she bumps into another random person on the couch and they give her a dirty look so she just flips them off. they scoff and get up, walking off elsewhere.
"see? the people here are so stupid," venus sighs, throwing her head back against the couch. "i'm so ready to go back to boston."
"same," aurora sighs in agreement, resting her head against hers as she's ridiculously tired. "where's raven at?"
"pretty sure she's hanging with nick and chris," she answers. "i lost them a bit ago and then i found you so."
"cool, cool," aurora says. "i was with matt earlier but nick found us and dragged him away because 'us being alone stresses him out now.'"
venus laughs before sitting up, making aurora do so as well. "speaking of that," she starts, aurora already sighing. "why didn't you tell me, you bitch?"
she just shrugs. "we were keeping it a secret. i don't know, i don't think it's that big of a deal."
"hm," venus hums, having something to say but holding back from saying it. "just know i definitely found out first though."
aurora narrows her eyes. "no way."
"yes way. it's been obvious as fuck," she tells her pointedly. "like it's gotten to the point that matt almost breaks his fucking neck just to look at you when you laugh. shits painful to watch."
"what? no," aurora instantly responds, her stomach beginning to flutter like it's a weird fucking butterfly. "no. shut up. no. literally no?"
"i... okay!" venus just says, standing up from her spot on the couch and turning back to aurora. "i'm gonna get a drink. do you want anything?"
"nope. i'm not drinking tonight," she tells her. "i'll probably use the bathroom though."
"hm. alright," she shrugs before turning around and heading for the kitchen.
aurora sighs and gets up from the couch as well. she begins her search for a downstairs bathroom, not wanting to go to the upstairs one because on her way there last time there was like fifteen couples making out in the hallway.
eventually, she successfully finds a bathroom. there's no line when she gets there either, thank fucking god.
she does her business and begins making her way back to the couch she was at earlier. this random guy ends up bumping into her though and she literally holds back a groan because he immediately smells of body odor.
"woah, sorry," the guys says, eyes widening as he takes a step back. aurora just sighs and tries to walk past him but he stops her. "yo, wait. you're like.. fine as hell, shawty. damn."
gag. literal gag.
"thanks," she responds dryly, trying to push past him again and now failing for the second time.
"wait a second," he says. "you should come chill with me or sum."
"nah."
he tilts his head at her. "don't be like dat, shawty."
"my friends are waiting for me," she shrugs. "sorry," she says insincerely. she begins walking past him but he stops her yet again, now by grabbing ahold of her wrist. she's starting to get really annoyed now so she turns back to him abruptly with a scowl. "look-"
"alright, she said no."
aurora instantly snaps her head around and hates how she sighs of relief at the sight of matt. he glances at her before glancing back at the guy and coming to stand beside her. "you can let go now," he says, referring to the hand around her wrist.
"what?" the guy raises his eyebrows. "you her boyfriend or sum?"
as he's focused on matt, aurora snatches her wrist from his grip. she glances over it, rubbing over where he grabbed with her other hand before sighing and connecting her arm through matt's for a sense of security.
he glances over to her for a moment before looking at the guy and shrugging. "yeah."
it's a lie but aurora doesn't even care in this instance.
"oh," the random guys says, beginning to blink repeatedly in his intoxicated state.
aurora rolls her eyes and trails her hand down to hover over matts. he glances down at their hands just as she interlocks their pinkies for just them to know. he then looks to her, his eyes softening as he just nods his head before looking back to the guy. "just get lost."
the guy instantly nods his head in response. he's an asshole but he's obviously scared of getting into it with another guy so he quickly turns around and does, in fact, get lost.
once he's gone, matt turns to aurora. "where do you wanna go?" he asks her, dropping their pinkies to instead fully interlock their hands and intertwine their fingers.
aurora sighs. "just back to the hotel honestly."
"alright," he nods, not putting up a fight for a second. "we can watch glee if you want."
"i thought you hated glee?" she raises her eyebrows at him.
"yeah, but you love it." he shrugs.
aurora grins. "okay, let's go and watch glee then."
