"chris please don't freak out when i say this-"

"hey rory," chris interrupts her. "why did it say you're trying to call me from a jail center?"

"okay just listen for a second-"

"are you trying to prank me right now?" he immediately accuses the girl. "you know you lowkey suck at this. i can tell you used a fake recording," he tells her, laughing.

"chris i got pulled over."

he pauses. "what."

"i got pulled over for making an illegal u-turn and i'm in jail," she tells him calmly, whisper-shouting.

"okay um," he takes in a long breath. "what do you mean you're in jail?"

"i mean," she rolls her eyes, chris managing to make her frustrated even when she's waiting in a fucking jail center. "i made an illegal u-turn, got pulled over, caught with my license being restricted, and now i'm in a jail center."

"WHAT THE FUCK, AURORA?" he now yells, finally taking in the fact that she's at a jail.

"listen, listen, here's the thing," she sighs, awfully calm for someone in jail. "apparently my dad knows the sheriff or something so i'm being left off with a warning luckily."

"oh thank fuck," chris sighs relievedly before speaking up in an annoyed voice, "why didn't you start with that, you dumbass?"

"yeah... i actually don't know," she frowns. "anyways, i really don't wanna call either of my parents and ask them to pick me up from jail, yknow? so i need you to come pick me up and act as my adopted brother."

"WHAT!" he shouts. "what about elijah, your actual fucking brother you know?"

"no because he's actually gonna be really pissed and concerned about my well being," she sighs. "so i'll see you soon right?"

he clamps his eyes shut, sighing before saying, "yeah, yeah fine."

"okay great," she smiles.

"wait," he speaks up right before she's about to hang up the phone.

"yeah?"

"where's nick at?" he asks, wondering why his brother wasn't the one to notify him first.

"oh, a cop is giving him a lecture on safe driving for the future or whatever," she tells him.

"alright," he sighs, rubbing at his eyes. "i'll be there soon."

when aurora is sat waiting in plastic chairs with nick and both chris and matt walk in, she rolls her eyes.

"oh my god," she groans as they walk over, nick standing up from his chair. "why'd you bring..." she pauses to glance over matt with a dramatically disgusted look. "him."

matt rolls his eyes and glances over aurora, immediately pausing and beginning to crack up when he notices her hands. "yeah, that's why you're in hand cuffs, aurora," he tells her through laughs, genuinely finding this situation one of the funniest things he's ever experienced.

"what!" chris exclaims, looking at auroras hands and instantly laughing just as much as matt once he notices the restraints. "oh my god, they really cuffed your ass!"

aurora looks to nick for pity and huffs when she sees him failing to hide his amused smile with his hand.

"i hate you all," she mutters under her breath as she tries to cross her arms and ultimately fails because well... she's cuffed. she settles for just leaning back in her seat instead.

"feelings mutual," matt tells her with a smile, making aurora roll her eyes. "i'm only here because chris can't drive... glad i got to see this shit show though."

"fuck you, matt," she groans just as the sheriff begins walking over.

"hi guys," the older man says, glancing over the entire group before looking to aurora. "who's all this?"

aurora now stands up from her seat and walks over to chris. "this is my brother chris," she tells him with a smile, nick looking away so he doesn't start laughing. "we adopted him about four months ago."

"oh," he says, looking chris who's definitely sweating up and down. he glances over at matt and nick before frowning and furrowing his eyebrows. "are you related to these two, chris?" he asks chris, his and auroras eyes both widening as they somehow didn't expect this.

"uh no," he eventually says, his voice an octave higher than normal. "we um, actually met because everyone says we look so alike," he tells the man, looking over to matt to see if it sounds convincing and almost sighing audibly when he nods his head.

"hm, alright," he nods his head with a sigh before looking back at aurora. "how do you know them then, aurora?"

"oh uh," she turns to nick and matt, looking at nick with a smile first. "nick is my best friend," she says easily, immediately hesitating when she gets to matt, hating the thought of ever saying he's her friend out loud. "and um-"

"matt here," chris pats matt's shoulder with a wide grin, one far too enthusiastic for his brothers liking. "matt is auroras boyfriend."

aurora immediately places her hand over her mouth, looking away from the group as she processes what chris said with her eyes clamped shut.

matt's eyes immediately widen from next to him and he tries to contain his shock and annoyance as he has the sheriffs full attention. "yup," he says with a forced smile, glaring at chris subtly who doesn't falter for a second.

"oh?" the sheriff raises his eyebrows, looking over to aurora who's now remaining a neutral expression. the girl forces herself to nod her head and the sheriff hums, suddenly turning around and walking away from the group.

as soon as the man disappears from their line of vision, both matt and aurora turn to chris with aggregated faces.

"chris, what the fuck!" aurora immediately exclaims, getting quieter as she catches a few strangers attention.

"what are you even trying to achieve here, bro?" matt asks, annoyance clear in his voice. "it's not even funny."

chris rolls his eyes and nick speaks up from across from them, "i actually find it very funny."

"thank you, nick." chris smiles at his brother.

"fuck you, nick," aurora narrows her eyes at her best friend. he just shrugs and looks away as the sheriff comes back with a key in his hand.

when the sheriff unlocks the cuffs and aurora's hands are freed, she sighs of relief immediately. all four of them have to sit through a thirty minute long talk with the cops about driving safety and matt ends up resenting aurora even more somehow.

"can you please fucking refrain from getting pulled over again?" matt asks the girl as soon as they exit the buildings doors.

she immediately groans, rolling her eyes in annoyance.

"seriously though," chris suddenly speaks up, agreeing with his brother. "we start school in literally two days. i do not want to come back to this place."

"alright, alright," aurora sighs. "no more illegal driving i guess."

"you would think you'd be smart enough to not do it in the first place, yknow," matt shrugs.

"no one fucking asked, matt."
