The girl's breaths came in rapid gasps as she sprinted through the dense forest, the sound of her footsteps echoing through the ancient trees. The air was thick with an unspoken menace, and a sense of urgency gripped her chest. Her heart pounded, each beat resonating with the pulse of her fear.

The forest seemed to close in around her, its shadows morphing into sinister shapes that flickered at the edge of her vision. Leaves crunched beneath her frantic steps, and low-hanging branches snatched at her hair as if trying to pull her back. The sunlight struggled to penetrate the thick canopy, casting an eerie gloom over the tangled undergrowth.

Her mind raced as fast as her feet. She couldn't pinpoint what she was running from, but an instinctual dread fuelled her flight. The unseen danger pursued her like a haunting presence, staying just beyond the periphery of her awareness. Her senses heightened, she could feel the pulse of the forest around her.

The wind whispered secrets, and the distant calls of unseen creatures seemed to conspire in an ominous symphony. Sweat dampened her brow, and her throat burned with each desperate gulp of air. Her eyes darted from shadow to shadow, searching for the elusive threat.

Her mind painted vivid images of unseen adversaries lurking in the darkness. She stumbled over roots and rocks, the forest floor uneven beneath her pounding feet.

She burst into a small clearing, her breaths still laboured from the frantic run. The serene openness of the space stood in stark contrast to the ominous shadows of the forest. Her eyes widened as she spotted someone familiar, her brother.ย

However he was not alone, instead he was being held captive by a man with a grim expression. The stranger's hand clutched a gun, its cold metal glinting in the dappled sunlight. "What's going on?!" she exclaimed, panic rising in her voice.

The man turned towards her, his face blurred yet the intensity of a glare could still be felt. "Your brother here stole something from me, girl. A valuable watch. You best convince him to give it back."

Her heart sank, and she instinctively moved closer to her brother. "Is this true?" she asked, her voice a mixture of concern and disbelief.

The boy's eyes pleaded innocence, his expression mirroring the confusion in her own. "I didn't take anything. I swear!"

Yet, as she scanned her brother, her eyes caught a glimmer of metal on his wrist โ€“ the very watch the man claimed was stolen. Bewilderment and fear clouded her thoughts, but she refused to give into such a dangerous person "You must be mistaken, he doesn't have your watch."

The man's grip on the gun tightened, his frustration evident. "Look at his wrist, girl. That watch ain't his, and he knows it."

The girl's eyes darted between her brother and the accusing stranger. A knot formed in her stomach as she hesitated, the truth unfolding before her. She saw the watch, undeniable evidence of her brother's guilt, yet a fierce loyalty compelled her to deny the reality. "You're wrong, that belongs to him...it was a gift from our grandfather."

"Lies!" The man bellowed, "Someone has sinned and they must be punished." The brunette suddenly felt a heavy weight in her hand, she glanced down and gasped at the gun that had materialised in her grasp. "Choose girl, shoot him or I'll deal with the pair of you." The stranger ordered as he turned and pointed his own weapon in her direction.

Her hands trembled as she held the gun, her mind racing with the gravity of the situation, it was either her life or her brother's. The bulk of the weapon in her hands felt alien and overwhelming. She stared at her sibling, a mix of terror and determination in her eyes as she frantically searched for a solution, it wasn't until spotted the unnaturally bright glow of the moon shining down on them, and she recalled what she'd learned in school, that she'd come up with one.

As soon as the thought appeared in her head her brother had done the very thing she was thinking about, almost as if it was a telepathic message. He angled the watch slightly, causing the light to bounce off the glass of the accessory and reflect into the man's eyes, blinding him.

Then within a split second she pulled the trigger, the recoil sending her flying back until she reached the ground, however the forest floor opened up beneath her, her surroundings seemed to warp and twist and the very fabric of reality seemed to unravel. Her eyes widened in horror as she plummeted into the abyss, the echoes of her scream swallowed by the void.

Megana shot up in her seat, her chest moving rapidly as she struggled to catch her breath, her eyes darted around the room and she suddenly recollected what was happening, it was all fake. A simulation test to determine her aptitude for a particular faction.

None of it was real, how could it have been, it had been 3 years since she'd even uttered a word to her brother, one and a half since she'd caught a glimpse of him.

The sound of a keyboard clicking sounded through the room, Megana turned her head and faced the tester, a Dauntless volunteer named Tori, who was briskly typing away, her expression full of worry. "What was my result?" The brunette asked hesitantly.

"Candor." Tori answered instantly, without making eye contact. Megana furrowed her brows, if there was one thing she knew it was that she wasn't completely honest, it was something she shamefully admitted to herself but also a fact she was certain of.

"That can't be right." She murmured, standing up from her seat to get a better look at the computer. This result would delight her parents as it was her birth faction, she had no intention of leaving it but the test was supposed to give her answers on why she always felt out of place. "Maybe there's been a mistake."

Tori sighed deeply as she cursed at herself for getting into the same situation multiple times, despite the risk. She then placed both hands on the teenager's shoulder and spoke with a low hush, "What I'm about to tell you cannot be shared with anyone else, not your parents, your friends, even your boyfriend, do you understand me?"

Once the girl had nodded Tori pulled her in closer, "You didn't get Candor...in fact Candor was the only faction that you didn't get."

"What do you mean the only one I didn't get?" Megana questioned, it was known that members of Dauntless had a habit of drinking, she wondered if that was the reason her tester was speaking this way.

"Your test was inconclusive..." Tori whispered, she noticed the girl about to interrupt once more and pressed her palm to her mouth. "You scored for more than one faction." Megana's eyes widened as she tried to process this news, she exclaimed against Tori's hand, the words understood by the older woman. "No it's not impossible, I've seen it before."

She slowly removed her palm from Megana's mouth and explained, "In the beginning of the simulation you removed the thorn from the dog's paw. Even though it was showing signs of anger you still helped it, you showed kindness, that scored you for Amity. In the second part you lied to defend your brother, it counts you out for Candor but that was just one scenario, there's a strong chance you'd show up for it under another."

"You were then willing to risk your life for your brother's, despite knowing he was in the wrong, you were selfless...that put you down for Abnegation." Megana's body began to tremble as she listened, she'd never heard of anyone fitting in more than one faction, it certainly wasn't normal."

"The trick with the watch, you knew what would happen if the light hit it, you used your intelligence and past knowledge to come up with a solution...which explains the Erudite result....and despite all of the danger you faced you didn't shut down, instead you became more resilient more aware, and in the end you were able to do what was necessary to protect a civilian...that makes you Dauntless."

"Dauntless?" Megana echoed, her tone full of confusion yet wonder. The rowdy faction as her parents would call them, they were bold and daring, nothing seemed to faze them, and if anything did they certainly didn't show it. They had always been alluring to her, their bravery and willingness to overcome their fears. Every member she'd ever seen radiated with confidence but also freedom.

It was that same freedom that her brother was seeking, the day he chose Dauntless and left the family.ย

"I don't.... understand, what's wrong with me, why am I like this?!"

ย Tori couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl, her life was now in jeopardy over something she had no control over. The only thing she could do to help her, other than submitting false results, was explain.

"They call it Divergent."

A/N:ย  I find it crazy that I'm even writing this fic when it wasn't even a thought a week ago.ย  Oh, our poor girl, she has no idea what she's about to go through...bless her heart. But I hope you enjoy this story <333

It was so hard tryna think of a simulation for the test. I didn't want to just copy the canon one, I hope it came out alright.

Anyways REMEMBER TO VOTE.

LOVE YOUUUU
