8| RAFE'S FREE NOSE JOB

When Sarah woke up the next morning, Layla was gone. They pair went back to her house after their kiss in the bathroom, kissed a little more, and went to sleep. She expected the girl to be there at least when she woke, feeling a bit hollow that she hadn't been. Sarah being Sarah, took it as if Layla was being horrible and used her, leaving the Cameron girl sad and annoyed.

Layla on the other hand just had to hurry home as quick as she could the next morning for Wednesday service. She was over the moon about being able to kiss Sarah Cameron, she felt safe with her of all people. Because Layla lived on the pogue side of the island, cellphone service was still not up, leaving Layla no way of contacting Sarah. She'd planned on heading over to her house tonight, to throw a few rocks at her window.

Layla's smelt of vanilla, Sarah's scent rubbing off on her after laying in her arms all night. Layla figured Sarah probably smelt like watermelon, considering all of Layla perfume, hair care, lotions, and deodorants were that scent. It was nice to have a part of the Cameron girl on her, reminding her of how her heart seemed to jump from her chest each time the blonde would move in her sleep to pull Layla closer.

"Nice of you to join us, Layla." Ramon greeted his daughter as her sundress blew in the slightest bit of wind, hurrying to join the service on the beach early that morning, "I figured you'd at least get a ride."

"I didn't want to put them out of them troubles, Sarah and I had a great sleepover." Layla said, hiding her smirk as she stood by her fathers side, sandals digging into her ankles.

"And her boyfriend, Topper, is it? Did she speak of him?" he asked, almost mocking, almost just testing her. Layla inhaled, making in seem as though she was breathing in the salty smell of the ocean, though she was stopping herself from saying something profound.

"She did, they're doing great." Layla lied to avoid a fight, flipping open her bible, "What verse?"

"Nahum 1:3." he spoke while leaving her side to stand in the middle of the circle, flipping his bible open as well, "The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet."

Layla held the women next to hers hand, "Amen."

The darker girl inhaled, feeling trapped, smothered. She was raised christian, she believed in a god and she knew she always would. But would he hate her for being the exact way he created her? No, she didn't believe so.

"She's a good christian girl, wears a cross around her neck and reads her bible." she heard a sing song voice heard from behind her. Layla turned and saw JJ grinned her way, Layla sighed in relief at the sight of the blonde, "Need a escape plan?"

"Please before dad starts going on a anti gay rampage." she begged as he gave her a wink, throwing his arm around her and hurrying toward the taller man.

"Mr.Winters, i'm so sorry to interrupt." JJ said as he faked a cry, Layla hid her laugh with a sad expression across her face.

"JJ, what's that face for, boy?" he asked with curious eyes, putting his hand on his shoulder worried, "Your father?"

"Yes sir." JJ said as he whipped his fake tears while Layla cuddled into his side more to play the good friend, "I just needed Layla's help to pack a bag, I wasn't aware you had service today."

"Oh, JJ, i'm so sorry, I can come after." Layla went on with the lie as she looked up at the blonde with sad eyes, "You know I have to put the lord first."

Roman watched the two as he shook his head, "You help your friend, Layla. I'll tell you what, the two of you come back after and we'll pray for your father, JJ."

"Oh, thank you, Mr.Winters." JJ cried as he hugged the man, giving Layla a subtle smirk over his shoulder, "Shes just just a good friend."

"She has the lord around her neck." Roman said as he smiled at his daughter, "God bless you, JJ."

JJ and Layla hurried off as the blonde giggled.

"We're going to hell." Layla shook her head as the pair hurried off quickly.

"At least we'll go rich and with good stories." JJ giggled as the pair raced toward the boat that was tied off on the docks.

"Kie is going to literally kill you!" Pope explained as he drove the boat, the multiple grocery bags in the back of the boat.

"Please, for the love of god, Pope, don't say anything." Layla said as she fell onto her knees, getting carpet burn from the small rug that was covered in sand, "I'm begging you not to say anything."

"Not me, you're gonna tell her." Pope said with a point of his finger, "Alone, i'm not dealing with that cat fight again."

"Hey, Layla, i've gotta ask." JJ said as he looked toward the girl who stood up better again, "What was she like? Did she purr? Did she whine? Always though she was a whi- Ow!"

"Don't talk about her like that!" Layla snapped at him, picking up he'd flip flop she threw at him, "It wasn't like that. We just kissed and cuddled, she's not ready for anything like that and I'm not gonna be the one to pressure her."

"That's all? You?" Pope asked in disbelief as Layla flushed.

"Well, I kissed her neck and stuff... and she might have touched my boobs. But that's it! I swear!" Layla said as the boy laughed and continued to steer the boat.

JJ raised his eyebrows, "Are you whipped? You seem whipped."

"It is scientifically proven lesbian couples tend to move in with each other within the first week while herero couples wouldn't ." Pope said as Layla smacked him upside the head and leaned on the side of the boat with a shrug.

"I don't know, I kinda like her. She's just different, I guess. She understood me without me even saying much, like she really sees me and not just a pogue or the lesbian preachers kid." Layla said as she picked at her chipped fingernails, "No ones ever said what she said to me, that's all."

"Yeah, she's whipped." Pope nodded and Layla smacked him again, "Ow! Easy!"

"When are you gonna see her again, my little lesbian?" JJ teased as he put a arm around Layla, "You gonna pop that cherry next time?"

"JJ, watch it." Layla warned him as Pope began pulling the boat toward the edge of the dock again, "I'm gonna try to sneak over tonight if I can slip away."

"So sweet." JJ teased as he grabbed the groceries, "Grab that other side, maybe the old people will feel bad for us and give heavy tips."

"Meet back here?" Layla asked as she looked toward Pope who gave her a nod of his head and going the opposite direction.

"You wanna go see her, don't you?" JJ asked as he noticed Layla looking around the Kook side of the island.

"Too risky." Layla shook her head, "But yes, so bad."

"Look, i'll take these, you head over there, we'll meet back." JJ said as Layla gave him a hopeful look as he eyed her, "I get your tips though."

"JJ, I absolutely love you." Layla said as she kissed his check and started running off in the direction of the Cameron house hold, where she was just a few hours ago. She wondered how she'd react when seeing Sarah again, when she left this morning she was fast asleep, mouth slightly open and eyes moving slightly behind her eyes.

Should she kiss her? Should she hug her? Should she get down on her knee and ask for her hand in marriage?

Layla didn't know and she never would considering when she knocked on the Cameron door and Rose came to the door, she was told Sarah wasn't home. Layla frowned at the news, the blonde asking if their was a message or if she wanted to wait around for her.

"Oh, no, no, I should get going." Layla said with a small frown across her lips, "Sorry to bother you."

"Get home quick, it'll be dark soon." Rose spoke as she shut the door, Layla sighed as she began walking away, stopping when she came face to face with Rafe and Topper.

"Another one, huh?" Rafe mocked as he put his golf club around his shoulders.

"Get out of my way." Layla said as she knocked his shoulder, Rafe pulled her back as Layla huffed, "Dude, walk away before I mess up that pretty face of yours."

"Aw, did you hear that, Top? She thinks i'm pretty." Rafe spoke with a grin toward Topper who was looking guilty and off, "Hey, I was wondering, what were you doing in my sisters room last night?"

He had a mocking tone in his voice, crossing his arms and grinning toward Topper who looked rather interested again.

"Rafe, I swear, walk away." Layla said she shoved the older boy a little harder the intended as he stumbled slightly, "Sarah and I are friends."

"She doesn't need a friend like you." Rafe spoke seriously as he pushed her shoulder, "Dirty little pogue who sneaks around her daddy's back. How'd you think he feel if he knew about all the little whines I heard you make from down the hal-"

Rafe was cut off by a sharp punch to the nose, stumbling backwards at the sudden impact.

"Shit!" Topper said as he bend down to help Rafe, "Dirty po-"

But Layla was long gone, running quickly back toward the docks.

"Layla! Layla! 100 bucks!" JJ yelled as he chased after her, following close behind.

"I gave Rafe Cameron a free nose job!" Layla said as her and JJ high fived each other as they ran toward the boat to jump on with Pope who had his back turned and starting the boat the second the pair got on.

"When I say count me in on all these grocery deliveries, Pope, I mean it." JJ said as he hurried toward the front. Layla looked down at her bloody hand, stretching her fingers to prevent any aching. She looked over and saw JJ eyeing Pope oddly, "Whats up with you? Bro, you good?"

Layla walked over just in time to see JJ pull up Popes hat, revealing a nasty mark, "Son of a bitch! What happened? Did you get hung up on the nets again?"

"Rafe and Tooper jumped me." Pope said with a sigh as she stared forward, holding all his emotions in as Layla grinded her teeth.

"God, I should have killed them both." the Winters girl spoke bitterly as she rose to her feet with a shake of her head, "Mother fuckers."

"They said no Pogues on their side of the island." Pope added in as Layla wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly.

"Here, let me drive, you grab some ice." Layla said as she helped him stand, nodding to JJ as she took the wheel.

"What are you gonna do?" JJ asked as he followed Pope toward the cooler, Layla pushed her sunglasses down to drive the boat better.

"2020 Malibu, 24-MXC." Pope said as the trio stopped before the boat, a few feet away on their much more beat up one.

"Sexy son of a bitch, gonna look good going down, isn't she?" Layla asked with a smirk as JJ raised his eyebrows, "I watch too many fratboy movies."

"This is war, Pope." JJ spoke as they stared out at the boat again, the sun shining down onto each of them in a burning sense, "They hit us, we hit them."

"Yeah, but harder." Layla added in with a nod, crossing her arm. Pope passed her his shirt as he dove into the water, swimming over toward the boat.

"Hide you face, church girl." JJ said as he pushed Layla's sunglasses on her forehead down onto her eyes. Layla took a deep breath as she watched Pope climb onto the boat, taking hold of the plug before diving back down and swimming toward them.

"There she goes." Layla commented as she watched the boat go down, "Next Royal Merchant."

Pope grinned as he held the plug in the air.

"I'm so proud of you right now." JJ grinned as he helped Pope into the boat, blushing as Layla took the plug, "Do the honors, Miss Winters."

Layla chunked the plug hard out toward the open ocean waters, loosing track as it sunk down.
