27| I LOVE YOU TOO
After the truck broke down, the radiator blowing, and staying over night with a mechanic to get it all fixed, the four pogues were back on the road again.
"Charleston is seriously so nice." Layla spoke as she looked out the window, Pope driving down the road.
"Do you not remember when we came here?" Kie asked offended.
"The two of you came here without us?" JJ was the one to be offended now.
"Yeah, we went sailing." Layla said as she leaned back in the car and put a arm around Kie, "Of course I remember, but I haven't seen this part."
"They're a bunch of fancy people. They've had three governors in the family." Kie informed them when Pope slowed down, looking for the correct address in the house, "They've run Charleston for, like, three hundred years."
"That's a bunch of years." Layla nodded her head.
"These Kooks make our Kooks look like Pogues." JJ spoke honestly as he looked at the many, abnormally large houses, "Are you sure this is the place, Pope?"
"Pretty sure." the taller boy exhaled as he looked up at the house.
"All right." JJ announced, opening the door, "Fat City, for sure."
"You see, I can imagine living here." Layla said as she jumped out, fixing the strap of her green top, "Spending my days drinking lemonade, making bread, drawing naked people. And then I'd finish off the night with a long bath and some green tea. The expensive kind."
"What about your art gallery?" Kie questioned her.
"My art gallery will have workers. Why would I waste my days working there when I make what goes in it?" Layla asked, looking up at the house as she cringed at the sight or the spikes on the fence, "I would absolutely not have those though. Maybe a guard dog. I'll name him JJ."
"Talk about home security." JJ nodded, "Those spikes to keep people out?"
"No." Kie looked his way.
"The slave quarters are over there." Pope nodded deeper into the fence.
"I don't like these people." Layla confirmed with a shake of her head, "Any decent human being would take these down by now. It's sick."
The gate opened, the four sharing a uneasy look as they headed inside and up to the door. Pope cleared his throat, knocking on the golden door for a while until it swung open.
"You must be Pope." the dirty looking man spoke, eyeing Pope. Layla assumed that with the money they had, he'd appear more presentable.
"Are you Mr.Limbrey?" Pope asked him with a clear of his throat.
"Ms.Limbrey was expecting you yesterday." The man said, annoyance in his eyes. He sorta reminded Layla of her father, but in a less religious way.
"I'm sorry. Our truck broke down on the way here." Pope apologized quickly, clear panic in his tone as Layla wrapped her pinkie with his.
"Carburetor blew in the middle of Nowhereville." JJ jumped in with a nod.
"It's a real old truck." Layla nodded her head in agreement.
"Yeah, she was real upset when you didn't show." the man ignored JJ and Laylas hope of ease the situation, focusing his attention back to Pope.
"We tried to call but there's no number on the invitation." Kie spoke up with a forced smile, though it was beautiful, "We got here as fast as we could."
"She expected you to come alone." he said, this time ignored Kiara, and look at Pope again. Layla rolled her eyes, her attempt to hold her attitude back flying through the roof at how rude the unknown man was being.
"I mean, these are my friends. They helped find the Royal Merchant too. I-" Pope stumbled over his words, being cut off.
"The instructions were clear. Your friends can stay outside." he spoke sternly, exhaling in annoyance and only looking at Pope.
"We're a package deal, man." JJ tried to reason for Popes sake.
"We don't really go anything without each other." Layla was next, "Like, once-"
"It's okay. I got this." Pope said, looking back at them with a nod, "I'll be good."
Layla made it look like she was hugging Pope, whispering to him, "Go for the groin, eyes, and throat."
He gave a minor nod as they pulled away, glancing at Kie, "Keep the car running."
As Pope walked inside, the door slammed in their face. Layla flipped off the closed door, having Kie yanked her hand down quickly, "Security cameras exist."
"Forgot about those." Layla said as they turned, "Are yall hungry? I saw a little store a few streets over."
"We can't leave Pope." JJ spoke, opening the truck door, "But my tummies a rumbilin."
"I'll just go grab something, you know food eases tension." Layla nodded, looking over at Kie, "Too bad I only have my fake ID and a few quarters on me."
The Carrera girl exhaled, grabbing her wallet and heading Layla a twenty, "Don't mess up the math."
"I have a D in math, I'll be fine." Layla gave a giggle, saluting as she pushed the money into her back pocket and headed down the road.
Layla stood at 5'6 in height, and she use to run track. It hadn't taken her long to walk the three blocks and end up at the convenient store she eyed on the way over. Her attend to divide twenty by four in her head failed, resulting in her whispering to herself slightly and making hand gestures infront of her face. To the public eye, she appeared insane.
But to a certain blonde being a gas pump, she appeared perfect.
"I know you aren't on drugs now, are you?" the voice behind the questioned grabbed Laylas attention, making her stop. For a second, she didn't think too much of it. But when she looked over her shoulder, her heart was in her stomach along with the rest of the butterflies, her whole body heating up, suddenly feeling like she couldn't breath properly.
"Sarah." Layla smiled at her as she blinked. Sarah dropped the gas pump, running at her. Layla suddenly was laughing, Sarah gave a minor scream as she threw her arms around her. They both stumbled, holding onto the other tightly, "Do you have any clue how horrible you smell?"
Sarah laughed as she squeezed her tightly, "I really miss showers."
Layla pulled back, cupping her face immediately and pressing a gentle kiss to her lips. Sarah leaned into her more, hugging her again as she peaked the side of her face. Layla felt over the moon, her eyes watering as she held Sarah so close, "How are you here?"
"John B and I decided to come back." Sarah said, her head tucked into Laylas neck, "I missed you so much."
"I missed you too." Layla smiled, the faint salty tears rolling down her face. Pope was right, she knew she wouldn't act completely fine with Sarah again, no matter how bad she smelt, "I'm so glad you're home."
"There's so much I have to tell you. First-" Sarah began before she was cut off.
"I love you too." Layla stopped her, Sarah blinking at her suddenly, "You told me you loved me and all I said was dido. I got scared because no one had said that to me before. But I do love you, like, more then I have loved anyone else."
Sarah flushed so bad in the face, her hands cupping Laylas face to pull her into a kiss once again. Layla leaned into her more, rubbing her waist, feeling the bandage along her abdomen. Pulling back, she gapped at the wound, "What the hell happened?"
"I got shot, died, came back to life." Sarah explained, Layla looked at her crazy. The blondes eyes widened as she suddenly grabbed hold of Layla and pulled her behind the gas pump, "I'll explain when that rich couple isn't coming after me."
"What did you do to that rich couple?" Layla asked in disbelief as saw the pair, "Offend them with your horrible smell?"
"Do I smell that bad?" Sarah asked honestly as Layla nodded her head.
"They ran out of the real deal. There's Vegan. Oh shit! Layla!" John B announced as he walked out of the store, a hotdog in his mouth with wide eyes.
"Hey! You!" the rich man called from a few feet away.
"Aim for the eyes!" Layla called to John B.
"Run, run." John B said quickly, grabbing the tanks of gas.
"Or not, we'll just run!" Layla spoke, grabbing Sarah's hand as the trio began running down the street, "What did you two do?"
"Stole his wallet!" John B called, spitting the rest of his hot dog out as he ran behind the pair, the two things of gas in his hands. They attempted to cross the road, Hayward's truck swerving across them.
"Get out the road!" JJ called out the window, clearly not recognizing them.
"Maniacs." Sarah said, holding onto Layla tightly, "Was that-"
"Yup, they're here too." Layla huffed as she hugged John B suddenly, "My son! I missed you."
"Layla, you have no idea-" John B began.
"Y'all! We gotta go!" Sarah announced, seeing the fancy man running after them again.
"Here, gimme one of these." Layla grabbed one of the things of gas, running behind Sarah as John B was behind her.
"Come on, we gotta find them." John B said, stoping infront of the electric bike. John B threw his leg over the seat, Sarah and Layla jumping in the back.
"Kinda romantic if you think about it." Layla said as she sat close to Sarah when John B took off.
"Running for our lives while I smell like shit and you smell like french toast?" Sarah asked in disbelief.
"It's my perfume, baby, don't be jealous." Layla said, grabbing into the cart tightly as John B swerved, "Sorry for not telling you, John B."
"Water under the bridge!" he called over his shoulder, "What are you guys even doing h-"
John B was cut off by the remaining three Pogues running out the alley way, stopping infront of them. The six stared with wide smiled on their face, forgetting everything and everyone in the moment.
"Get in! Get in!" John B snapped back to reality first. Kie jumped in, hugging Sarah and slapped Laylas arm.
"We ran to the store and you were missing." she said in disbelief while Pope and JJ began pushing from the back.
"I found a pretty woman, you know they are my weakness." Layla defended herself as Sarah put a arm around her, "Even if she smells bad."
"I'm gonna shower." Sarah said, kissing Laylas forehead.
"Push!" JJ hollered as the man from Popes interview, fancy man, and the guy they stole the bike from chased after them.
Layla threw one of her shoes, hitting the man they stole the bike from, "I loved those sandals."
Pope suddenly lost his balance, hitting the ground with a roll.
"Pope!" Kie hollered as Pope stood and ran after them again.
"Peddle, John B!" JJ called as they went up hill, making it even harder.
"Jump in!" Layla called, pulling JJ on the back while Kie did the same to Pope. They all yelled in victory as they went down hill, making the cart go even faster.
