11| A CHANGED FRIENDSHIP

JJ elbowed Layla as the four sat in the car, she hadn't said anything the whole time John B made his speech before getting out of the car or after he left. Kie noticed too with narrow eyes, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Nothing!" Layla snapped back at her annoyed.

"Look, I know you don't hate Sarah as much as I do, but I could have really used your hel-" Kie began before a scream echoed through the air, shouts of pain and calling for help being heard, "What the fuck?"

"Sarah!" Layla yelled as she threw herself out of the van quickly, running through the woods, "Sarah!"

"Layla! Layla, wait!" Pope yelled, clearly alarmed by Sarah already screaming. Layla ignored him, sprinting faster as she yelled for Sarah again.

"Layla, please, help!" Sarah yelled, Layla turned quickly and ran toward where she'd yelled, her friends close by her side. As Layla came to a stop her eyes widened in shock, breathing out in worry as she looked at John B's limp body on the ground while Sarah sobbed over him.

"John B." Layla said as Kie stopped by her side, looking just as in shock as she had.

"Topper shoved him." Sarah sobbed as JJ began yelling in anger, looking for Topper, "Please, please just get help. I don't care who, just someone!"

"Go! Go! Go!" JJ yelled as Pope took off. Layla fell next to John B's body, checking his pulse and elevating his head. Sarah sobbed as she fell into Layla's arms, crying into her neck while Layla held both her and John B.

Layla huffed as she started hanging some of John B's clothes up in the guest room at the Cameron's house. Ward had decided to let John B stay with them once he got out of the hospital, Layla's dad being there to pray for him when he'd said it and let Layla know.

"You don't have to do that." Sarah spoke as she leaned on the door frame of the bedroom, "I can do it."

"I've got it." Layla spoke, not bothering to turn to her as she put up one of the button up shirts, "You've done enough."

Sarah sat on the edge of the bed, watching her, "I'm really sorry for last night."

"You were scared, we all were." Layla said honestly as she eyed Sarah slightly as she turned to grab another shirt before turned from her again. Layla hated being alone with her, hated the way her mind raced of many things with Sarah being the main character in all of them, "So he's your boyfriend?"

Sarah went silent for a second, "Yeah."

Layla hummed, rolling her eyes before turning to Sarah again, "Lovely."

"Layla-" Sarah began.

"I don't care, Sarah. Truly, I don't." Layla lied, clear annoyance in her words as hurt flashed Sarah's eyes, "What happened between us didn't mean anything to either of us, I really could care less if you're macking on John B."

Layla turned around again to hide the pain across her face, hating that she said it but knew she had to in order to avoid looking like the desperate lesbian who fell in love with a straight girl. Sarah looked at her fingers, her own pain dancing in her eyes as she stood up slowly, "Then I guess we don't have anything to talk about."

"Guess not." Layla said as she hung up the clothes again, not bothering to look at her. Layla waited until she heard Sarah leave the room to let out a shaky sigh, stopping her movement as she ran a stressful hand through her hair as her eyes watered.

Unaware of Sarah doing the same thing right outside the room.

"Mosquitoes, little fuckers." Layla complained as she sprayed the bug spray all over herself with a huff.

"Look, you guys know who's house this is, right?" Kie asked as she pushed some weeds out of the way, walking through them.

"Oh, yeah. I do." JJ announced.

"Look, honestly, I don't really believe the stories of this place." John B spoke as Layla rolled her eyes, shoving his shoulder as she walked before him.

"Why would you? You don't believe in anything." Layla said annoyed, clearly taking her built up jealousy out on him.

"Which stories did you hear?" JJ asked as he hurried to catch up with Kie.

"The one where she killed her husband with an axe and that she's been hold up every sense." Kie spoke, looking at him then back at the group, "Certain nights, when the moon is full, you can see her in the window."

Kie began making humorous haunting noises.

"No, Kie, it's not funny though cuz' it's all true!" JJ said quickly as he followed close behind.

"Maybe she had her reasons." Layla cut in with a shrug of her shoulders, "Maybe she killed him because he was a stupid whore and ruined her relationship with another person."

"Specific." Pope commented from behind her.

"I swear to god guy, this is all real. I knew Hollis." JJ explained as he gasped and jumped away when they passed a old statue.

"Don't piss your self, JJ." Layla mocked from behind him, stepping over a mud pile.

"Wait, you knew Hollis Crain?" Pope asked in disbelief, shoving JJ slightly.

"Yeah, dude."

"Dude, how do you know Hollis Crain?"

"She was my babysitter, man. She told me all about it." JJ spoke knowingly as he looked at each of them with wide eyes, "Told me the truth... about her mother and what happened in this house."

Layla looked up at the old, haunting house that made a small chill roll down her spine, "I'm just waiting for some crazy mother to run out and chace us with a broom lit on fire."

"As a kid, she heard all the stories that her mother killed her father, and was a murderer and all." JJ went on as he looked to each of them once again, "Hollis didn't believe it. Until that night."

"What night?" John B cut in.

"It all came back to her. When Hollis was six years old, she heard her parents arguing downstairs. So she goes downstairs to see her mom washing her hands in a sink... full of blood." JJ said, staring intensely at John B who looked away in disbelief, "Her mother just says that she cut her finger. The next morning, she says her father and her split up. But then, Hollis noticed something. Her mother going into the parlor constantly, in and out and in and out with plastic bags. Weeks pass, and Hollis decides to use the outhouse. And as she's using it, she looks down, and there, in the outhouse, is her fathers head, looking straight back at her."

"Oh, you're so full of shit." Layla said in disbelief from the story with a roll of her eyes.

"I swear to god, woman." JJ spoke seriously to her.

"Did she call the police?" Pope jumped in.

"She didn't have time." JJ said back as John B began to walk off, "Wait, hang on! Bro! Dude! Wait!"

"What?" John B asked annoyed as Kie and Layla shared a annoyed look.

"You sure you wanna do this? She's an axe murderer. You got a cast on." JJ said, nodding to John B's cast around his arm.

"I don't give a shit if she's an axe murderer, okay?" John B snapped at him quickly, "I got nothing to lose, right? You comin or what?"

"It's your funeral, dumb bitch." Layla said, pulling her bag around her body better and heading through the many weeds again, leaving them behind as she tried to clear her head of annoyance for John B.
