BEFORE AND AFTER
5x15
Rowan tries to hold the hospital door open for Lexie after dinner, but Lexie being the child she is, pressed the handicapped button to hold the door open.
Rowan scolds her, of course.
After getting a call from Derek, as well as a call from Richard, she had to hurry back into the hospital.
Archer—Addison's brother—was in the hospital, which meant Addison was there, and in need of comfort.
After everything Addison had done for Rowan, ever, the least Rowan could do was show. Not to mention Addison hadn't officially met her wife yet, since she had to leave soon after the ceremony was over, and she thought that would take her mind off things.
There was also the fact that Addison brought her friend—whom she'd wanted to meet—and most likely didn't know Rowan was fake married to a woman over five years younger than her.
But most of all she came because she missed her best friend.
So the two would just do what they did best, fake it.
Lexie and Rowan took the elevator to the floor Richard and Derek told them to come to. They then found Addison who was all but screaming at Derek.
Rowan assured Lexie she'd be fine, but Lexie insisted on staying with her.
The brunette inched closer, as that was something she did when she got tired, but also something she did when they got close to people who didn't know the truth, so Rowan didn't know whether to believe Lexie was awake or not.
Considering she fell asleep on the floor outside of a delivery room today.
Addison's short red hair moves out of her face as she turns her head. Rowans gaze softens as she sees Addison's state—teary and tired.
"Ro," Addison sighs, going straight for Rowans outstretched arms. "You didn't have to come."
"I know," Rowan smiles when Addison pulls back for a second, "but I wanted to."
Lexie remains beside Rowan, unsure what to do.
"Dr. Grey," Richard nods.
"Dr. Webber," Lexie nods back, smiling excitedly when the man looks away and back to Derek.
Addison let's go of Rowan, Naomi stepping forward to introduce herself.
"Naomi," The woman's hand clasped around Rowans as they shook.
"Rowan," The blonde smiled.
"And who is this?" Naomi looked away from Rowan, kindly introducing herself to Lexie as well.
"This is—"
"This is Rowan's wife," Addison emphasized, and Rowan understood why—she hadn't told Naomi about the situation.
"Ah," Naomi nodded her head in understanding. The woman then stood there awkwardly, "I'm going to grab coffee. Does anyone want any?"
"No," Everyone says.
"But I'd like a muffin," Rowan reached into her pocket to grab her wallet, but Naomi stops her.
"Don't, I got it," Naomi smiled one more, and left the other three by themselves outside of the room.
"I would've liked a muffin," Lexie grumbled like a child.
"It's for you," Rowan rolled her eyes. "And then you're going to bed. You have a big day tomorrow."
Lexie looked at the taller woman, "I told you, I'm not tired."
"Your eyes are red."
"So?"
"So.. I said you have a big day."
"Doing what?" Lexie pouted, totally forgetting Addison was there. "Sutures?"
Rowan pursed her lips and shook her head, "I'm not fighting with you."
Addison stifles a laugh, which brings the couple back into reality.
Rowan inhales, "I'm here for you Addie, whatever you need."
"I am too," Lexie nodded reassuringly.
And that's when Rowan started to fall.. if she hadn't already been.
💍
The next morning Lexie and Rowan woke up in the on-call room they'd stayed in the night before and got ready at the hospital.
Rowan and Lexie went their separate ways—Lexie with the rest of the interns, whom were summoned by Izzie today. And then Rowan who had babies to deliver.
Normally Rowan loved her job, and delivering babies, but today she couldn't focus. Not with Addison there, being sad, worried about her brother.
Today must have been a day all the mothers in Seattle decided to go into labor, because Rowan had just gotten done with her fourth delivery—none were complex—and it was still only noon.
She was also dreading the time Derek's tumor patient needed her baby delivered because of everything that's already on her plate.
The only thing getting her through the day is currently Arizona Robbins.
She hadn't talked to her much, and she thought her bubbly demeanor was a little—a lot—much at times, but she really enjoyed her company.
Not to mention she was basically the only other person in the attending's lounge when Rowan sat down to have lunch.
Both blonde women had salads, Arizona's from the cafeteria and Rowans from home.
They made small talk until Arizona brought up Lexie.
Rowan found it alarming, how easy it was to talk about Lexie now, compared to three months ago when she knew nothing about the intern.
When lunch was over, Lexie came and found Rowan, hoping to have lunch with her.
Rowan could see Lexie deflate when she saw the two blondes and their empty salad bowls. She just didn't know if it was because Lexie was jealous, or because she wanted to eat with her.
Rowan was sure it was the latter.
Rowan bid her goodbye to the pediatric surgeon and left with Lexie.
Lexie immediately starts asking Rowan about her growing friendship with the blonde—which was over dramatic, as this was the first time Rowan had really spoken to Arizona since she arrived.
"Soooo Dr. Robbins?" Lexie nodded as she walked down the hall with Rowan.
Rowan side eyes Lexie. "What are you getting at?"
"Nothing," Lexie shrugged it off.
"We aren't actually married, you know?" Rowan rolled her eyes.
"Yeah but you're gonna blow our cover."
"This isn't a cop show," Rowan squinted.
"Well— yeah— I know that!" Lexie huffed.
"You are a child," Rowan pressed her pointer finger and thumb into the bridge of her nose, relieving the growing pressure in her head. "I can't believe I married you."
"Me either," Lexie burst into a smile.
The moment was ruined by a pager. It was Lexies.
"I gotta run," Lexie looked down, and back up. "It's Dr. Stevens. She needs us back."
"Okay," Rowan nodded, focused on Lexie's face.
When the younger woman walks away, Rowan stops her.
"Hey, you look nice today," Rowan gave a thumbs up, something that had rubbed off on her from Lexie.
"You too," Lexies lip twitched.
