It was the night before Rowan and Lexie's stupid, unnecessary, and very stressful wedding. This shouldn't even be happening. And if Rowan would have gotten her way, it wouldn't be.
But, as it turns out, Lexie is hard to turn away.
Rowan didn't understand why, and maybe it's because she didn't grow up planning her wedding, but she really didn't want to be here. At her bachelorette party.
She kind of wished she was able to have her party with Lexie so she wouldn't be so.. bored?
The party wasn't bad, in her opinion, but it really wasn't her. She knew Lexie's couldn't have been much better, as it probably contained movies with her group of interns, plus George.
Currently, Rowan sat in Meredith's house, along with Derek, Mark, and Meredith.
Rowan felt really bad about stealing Meredith from her sister, but Lexie assured her she'd have a great time with George, and cue the eye roll, Sadie.
Her three best friends did everything they could to keep her and Lexie separated all day. Which was stupid, because it was the day of the wedding they were to be separated, right?
Either way, she didn't have a say.
The keeping each other away may have worked, but Rowan and Lexie still had each others phone numbers. And Rowan was constantly updating the brunette on the nonsense her sister and brother-in- law were doing.
Derek, Mark and Meredith had voted on ordering Chinese food, but knowing Rowan, they already had a fresh salad made in the fridge waiting for her.
The group of four sat in the living room as they talked about literally anything.
"How can you stand being around Little Grey if your such a health freak?" Mark bit into his egg roll.
"How can you stand to eat that crap?" Rowan shot back. "It's so bad for you."
"I still have a great body, though. Don't you think?" Mark gestures to his stomach and winks at the blonde, who fake gags.
"I wouldn't know, my type doesn't include man whores," Rowan jokes.
Derek and Meredith snicker, and Mark chokes on the egg roll.
"Okay, enough. We don't need anyone dying the night before," Meredith waved Mark off. "We should probably talk best man."
Rowan looks nervously at the men.
"I get to walk you, right?" Mark smirked at Rowan.
Rowan gives Mark a nervous smile, "No..?"
"No?!" Mark sat up from his slouched position on the couch.
"No," Rowan said more confidently.
"I was going to get you, like, twenty crossword puzzle books, but I guess not," Mark looked the other way.
"Oh, shut up! It can not hurt that bad," Rowan rolled her eyes. "Lucky for you, you get to be best man."
Mark turned his head back to the blonde. "Fine. I guess when you actually get married, I get to walk you down the aisle."
"Which will never happen," Rowan shoves a mouth full of the lettuce into her mouth.
Meredith mutters something, but Rowan ignores it.
"With that being said," Rowan pauses to swallow. "Shepherd will walk me down the aisle."
"Is Addison coming?" Mark's eyebrows drew together with curiosity.
"No," Rowan's eyes advert to her salad. "She's busy."
The three share a look, unsure of what to do.
Hands down, Addison had always been Rowan's favorite out of her, Mark and Derek. No question. And everyone knew that.
So they knew she must have been pretty upset when she found out the redhead would not be making an appearance at Rowan's wedding.
"It's okay," Rowan assured. "I'll just go visit her soon."
Mark nodded, "I'll go with, if you want."
"I'd appreciate that, but I think I want her to meet my wife-to-be," There was very little humor in her statement.
When the silence begins to be too much, Derek clears his throat, and drops the bomb. "So, I'll be walking you down the aisle?"
"Yeah," Rowan looks up, any sadness erased. This was her night. They would do what she wanted, without any sadness, or any talk of Addison. "Grey, your walking Alexandra, correct?"
"Of course," Meredith smiled. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Rowan nodded and sipped on her beer.
The blonde wasn't one to party, and they all knew that. So no one made any attempts to force her to dance or anything. They let her make the shots.
After they ate, they played a few rounds of poker, and instead of money, they bet on dancing with Rowan. Mark made dirty jokes about how he'd pay to see Meredith and Rowan, which Derek stomped on his foot for. Derek bet he'd get first dance, although Mark was pretty confident he'd win. Rowan didn't mind the friendly banter at all, as she'd probably win.
Because if she won, she got to pick.
💍
Rowan awoke with a hammering headache. The night before had started out with only beer. But as the poker went on, they began drinking the harder stuff. Tequila, Vodka, Scotch, you name it.
All she wanted right now was something for her head and some breakfast.
Luckily, when she finally makes it down the steps, there is one, Derek Shepherd, making a healthy omelette for his best friend.
"Oh, your a godsend," Rowan sat in a chair by the table, where Derek placed the plate in front of her.
He walks back towards the cabinet to grab her a pill and a glass of orange juice, where he slams both the cabinet and the fridge, making Rowan groan.
"How do you not have the same headache as me?" Rowan buries her face in her hands.
"I've been up for a while," Derek chuckles and sits across from the blonde. "It's like nine. I had to go in to the hospital early this morning, but I told them they are going to have to find someone else, because my best friend is getting married."
"Really?" Rowan smiled, her face hidden in her hands.
"Mhm," Derek hummed as he sipped his own orange juice. "Meredith left a little bit ago to stop at the hospital to check on our patient. But then she's on her way to help get Lexie ready. Mark got called in a little bit ago, but that's to be expected."
Rowan nodded as she scarfed her food down.
"Are you even chewing it?" Derek chuckled.
"Yeah," Rowan sat back in the old kitchen chair once she was finished. "I'm just nervous, I guess."
"Rowan Potter? Nervous?"
Rowan squints. "Where is everybody else?"
"Izzie should be here any second," Derek cleared the plates and juice glasses.
"Oh god, she did not give me a dress, right?" Rowan wanted to go back to bed.
"No," Derek scrubbed off the plates. "I made sure of that."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Rowan got up and kissed Derek's cheek.
"You should shower before she gets here," Derek grimaced.
Rowan's mouth fell open at her best friends words. "Are you saying I smell?"
"Well.." Derek tilted his head back and forth. "And brush your teeth, too."
Rowan rolls her eyes but hurries up the steps anyways.
