SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL
5x12
Rowan sat on Lexie's bed with her. She was doing her best to get to know her, as they were going to be getting married soon. And it needed to look realistic.
They were letting Izzie help plan their wedding. And by helping, they meant Izzie offered to do the whole thing. So they let her.
The couple were going over the plans—that were placed in a huge bright pink binder.
All Rowan had been asked on the subject was if she would like to wear a dress.
The answer was no.
But what did Izzie do? Gave her dress options. Along with Izzie's opinions on which one she should go with. Same with Lexie.
"You know I told her I didn't want dress options, right?" Rowan lets out a stressed sigh. "I despise dresses."
"I know," Lexie looked at the blonde with sympathy.
"I'll have to tell her about that tomorrow," Rowan rolled her eyes.
Lexie nodded.
"Is it too early to fire her?" Rowan joked.
"I think so," Lexie giggled.
Rowan shut the stupid, pink binder and rose from the twin sized mattress, binder in hand. And just now, she realizes how small the bed actually is.
From the attic, Lexie and Rowan hear someone drop a lamp, then they share a look after someone curses.
"How do you sleep in here, Alexandra?" The blonde cracks the attic door open, heat desperately flooding into the freezing cold attic.
"Heated blanket?" Lexie smiled at Rowan when she turns away from the door to face her.
"You know we should probably start moving you into my room," Rowan insisted.
"There isn't much to move," Lexie gestured to the bed, the two suitcases of clothes, a few books, and a teddy bear.
"Okay," Rowan shook her head.
"But we can move me in tomorrow. If that will make you feel better," Lexie felt confident as she continued to smirk up at the blonde.
"It would make me feel so much better," Rowan said sarcastically. "But actually, people in the house—mainly Alex and Izzie—are starting to get curious. Not that Izzie wasn't already curious."
"Hm," Lexie nods, but she's focused on Rowan's eyes.
That is, until Meredith and Cristina come hurrying up the steps.
"Rowan!" One of them shout.
"What?" Rowan steps outside into the hallway, where she is greeted with warm air. "Stop running."
"We need your help," Meredith gestured with her pointer finger, out of breath.
"Mom," Cristina added, breathlessly.
Rowan rolls her eyes, "What do you need?"
"Derek's mother is coming—
"Carolyn is coming?" Rowan's eyes lit up.
—and we need you to dust the high places."
"Did you just call someone by their first name?" Cristina's eyes widen.
"Carolyn was basically her mom after she left the U.K.," Meredith waved it off. "But I've never met her, so the house needs to be perfect. Mothers don't love me. Mothers like bright and bubbly and happy and.."
"We went through this downstairs, Mer," Cristina rubs the dirty blondes back.
"I would just love to, but Lexie and I are going over wedding plans," Rowan held up the binder.
"So are you and Lexie, like, waiting until marriage?"
Meredith widened her eyes and sent an awkward look to the blonde.
"What?" The question took Rowan aback.
"Well, I mean.." Cristina looked to Meredith for help. "You guys aren't sleeping in the same room."
"We're moving her in tomorrow. I didn't think she was going to propose so soon. We haven't even been together for a year," She turned from Cristina to Meredith. "Anyway, can't Derek do it?"
"He's not here."
Rowan sighs, "Fine, I will help you."
💍
"Hi," Lexie sighed.
"Hey," Rowan took a sip of her water. "How are you today?"
"Good," Lexie looked in front of her as Rowan placed the unhealthy choice of lunch for the day down on the table.
It had become their thing. Lexie got lunch one day, and Rowan would the next. And, as the days went on, they got to know each other better.
Lexie had learned that Rowan loved the rain, but hated the snow. That she loves crossword puzzles—but everybody knew that. That she can't draw to save her life. Her favorite colors are red and yellow. Her favorite food is salad. And her family situation is.. shit.
Rowan had learned Lexie's absolute favorite color was pink. Rowan hated pink, but she's satisfied with her answer. She's gathered that Lexie has a photographic memory, and she likes junk food.. a lot of it. Lastly, Lexie has a teddy bear, whom she cherishes very much.
When both women are done eating, Rowan takes their trash, and throws it away.
As Rowan is turning, Carolyn spots the blonde woman.
"Rowan?" Carolyn waited for Rowan to turn back around.
"Carolyn!" Rowan smiled and hugged the only woman who had ever felt like a mother to her.
"Have you been avoiding me?" Carolyn tilted her head.
"No, no," Rowan shook her head.
But was she? She hadn't seen her around yet today, but she didn't think she was doing it on purpose.
"You have that same guilty look on your face as you did when you kissed your first real girlfriend," Carolyn lifted her brows at the woman.
Rowan crossed her arms, "I had very many real girlfriends before that!"
"What's going on with you?" Carolyn smiled knowingly. "Normally you come and find me as soon as I visit. You also crack a few jokes the second you lay eyes on me. You haven't made a single one."
Rowan licks her lips and uncrosses her arms, "I'm getting married."
"Oh, Rowan!" Carolyn lifted her hand to Rowan's face, but when Rowan doesn't smile back, Carolyn frowns, "What's wrong?"
"She's really young," Rowan blinked. "Like, really young."
"She is of legal age, though, correct?"
Rowan bursts out laughing.
"That's the Rowan I know and love," Carolyn nodded with approval. "Now, which one is she?"
Rowan turned, a smile still on her face from the laughter, "The one with the juice box. That's actually the first somewhat healthy thing I've seen her consume."
Carolyn lifts her brows in return.
"I know she's young, and I don't need your approval. I am very happy. And I.. love her," Rowan swallowed.
"I'm not against it, if she makes you really happy, okay?" Carolyn pats Rowan's arm.
"Thank you," Rowan let's out a breath of relief as Carolyn leaves her.
💍
Lexie stuffs all her clothes back into the two suitcases she has lined against the wall as Rowan pulls the bed sheets and pillow cases off the bed and pillows.
For once, the cold atmosphere of the attic is nice.
Rowan gathers the sheets and pillow cases and runs them down to the laundry room so they can be washed.
When she comes back up, Lexie is zipping the second suitcase.
"Okay, so, I only have like two pillows in my room, and they are really flat, and they are mine," Rowan said with a serious expression.
"Oh— okay," Lexie lifted her eyebrows, a little intimidated.
"I'm just messing with you, Alexandra," Rowan beamed a smile. "But you should grab how ever many pillows you need."
"Well, I need a lot of pillows, and I don't think you want all of the pillows in your bed," Lexie bit her nail nervously as she laughed.
"It's okay, I have a queen sized bed," Rowan shrugged it off. "Because who was sleeping on the shit of a bed that was in my room when I originally moved in? I mean, it was a twin, and it was ready to die. I don't even think twins could fit on it."
"So I can take all my pillows?" Lexie stands on her toes excitedly.
"Yes," Rowan chuckled. "But we are going to have to share a blanket."
"Deal," Lexie put her hand out.
"I'm not shaking your hand," Rowan pushed it away but Lexie put it back out.
"Just shake it," Lexie smiled in a joking manor.
"No," Rowan shook her head, but eventually gave in and just shook it.
"Okay, and my bear comes along," Lexie said, and Rowan saw it adorable, but childish.
"You sleep with that bear?" Rowan raised her brows.
"Yes. What did you think I did with it?"
"You're a grown adult, and still sleep with a teddy bear?" Rowan antagonizes her.
"He has a name Rowan!" Lexie crosses her arms.
"Yeah?" Rowan picked the bear up and held in her arms. "And what is it?"
"Mr. Bear," Lexie grabbed the bear from Rowans arms.
"Okay," Rowan just laughed and shook her head.
Lexie and Rowan take the two suitcases—filled with clothes, and the few books she had—and the thousands of pillows that were on Lexie's bed.
By the time they are done, the bed was covered in pillows, as well as Mr. Bear.
Lexie looked like a kid in a candy store.
"What am I gonna do with you?"
Lexie was about to say something when there's a knock on the door. Lexie follows Rowan down the steps and reaches her once she's paying the pizza guy.
Lexie is smiling ear to ear when Rowan turned around with the cardboard box.
"Is there a salad hidden somewhere?" Lexie asked as she took the box.
"No," Rowan held back a smile.
"So what is this pizza doing here?" Lexie raises her brows innocently.
"We are going to eat pizza," Rowan shook her head. "What does it look like?"
"Well, normally you don't eat greasy, delicious heaven," Lexie places the box on the kitchen island, opening it.
"I guess I wanted to treat you to dinner for helping me with this," Rowan observed Lexie carefully as she pulled a piece from the box. "Please use a plate," Rowan grabbed a plate from the cabinet.
Lexie chews the steaming pizza as Rowan grabs her own slice. "And believe it or not, I used to love pizza."
"You did?"
"Absolutely," Rowan swallowed, a bad memory coming up, and Lexie drops the subject. "Even if it's terrible for your health."
"I have a very serious question."
"Okay.." Rowan bit her lip. "Should I be nervous?"
"No," Lexie shook her head. "Who is your favorite superhero?"
"Is that even a question?" Rowan tilts her head forward. "Spider-man."
"You're a keeper," Lexie said said as someone passed the kitchen.
