WISH YOU WERE HERE

"Hi there," The intern smiled brightly at her fake fiancé, the blonde nodding as she looked her way.
"Hello," The blonde went back to looking at the O.R. board, Lexie just continued standing there. "What are you doing?"
"I'm saying hello," Lexie shrugged it off.
"Why?" Rowan turns to actually look at the brunette, her eyes narrowing as she does so.
"Because your my fiancé," Lexie reminded Rowan as she gave another innocent smile.
"Yeah..?" Rowan nodded.
"I'm just.. showing affection," Lexie scrunched her face up, her statement not coming out right.
"Okay," Rowan laughs and looked at the ground.
She could see what she was doing. She was trying to broach the subject of Natalia, but didn't know how to go about it.
But was Rowan going to give in without letting Lexie get a little flustered? Absolutely not.
"So, uh," Lexie smiled for the thousandth time. "Do you want to get lunch and talk?"
Rowan gave her an amused nod, as to signal her to go on. "To talk about what?"
"Are you having fun with this?" Lexie slightly pouted, following the blonde as she makes her way towards the pediatrics wing.
"Yes, actually," Rowan crosses her arms, moving her head just the slightest to get a look at Lexie's red face—all while pressing the elevator button.
Lexie let out a sigh that makes Rowan's face soften at.
"Look," Rowan smiled at visitors as they exited the elevator and the couple took their place. The blonde continues after the elevator doors shut. "I don't know how much you heard, but, my family is very messy."
"Well, everyone knows the famous Potters," Lexie points out.
"Yeah, everyone," Rowan muttered. "The point is, I was trying to save you from the messy, toxic, shit show that is the Potters."
"I said I'm happy to do it," Lexie insisted, looking into Rowans eyes.
"What comes out of it for you?" Rowan tilts her head at the shorter girl.
"Nothing," Lexie lied.
"Alexandra.."
"Bragging rights?" Lexie squinted. Although, even that was a little far-fetched.
Rowan pinched her lips together, lets out a sigh and drops the topic.
The metal doors open, and the women walk out and towards the wing Rowan needed to get to.
"My sister is.." Rowan clenched her jaw for a quick second. "..manipulative, to say the least."
Lexie grabbed Rowans hand and squeezes it for reassurance.
"She's worse than my parents," Rowan pressed her lips together, her lips forming into a smile. "But don't worry about her. She'll be gone before the wedding happens."
"Okay," Lexie smiled to play along as Cristina and Alex fought walking down the hall.
"So you'll stop worrying?" Rowan looked at Lexie with hopeful eyes.
"Yes," Lexie nodded.
"Okay, I have to go. But I'm still up for lunch," Rowan walked backwards a few steps, almost running in a nurse. "I'm sorry," The blonde turns back to the brunette. "Good?"
"Good," Lexie let out a small laugh at her wife to be.
💍
"Well maybe we could go in through here," Rowan pointed on a scan.
She had a patient—who was pregnant, of course—and if it progressed, she'd have to either deliver the baby, and do the surgery. Or she'd have to do it the hard way. And since she'd learned pretty much everything she knew from a the best, a certain double board certified redhead, she wasn't only and OB, as well as a fetal surgeon.
Bailey helped Rowan and the mother through this process. You know, telling the mother, the ultrasounds, the 'worst case scenarios', and everything in between.
So that's what she was doing when she met Arizona Robbins. A light this hospital needed after the passing of Dr. Kenley earlier this morning.
"Dr. Bailey," The blonde pediatric surgeon beamed from above Rowan and Bailey. The woman pushes her hand out to shake her own hand with the residents. "Arizona Robbins. I'm taking over Dr. Kenley's patients."
"Oh, you're the peds surgeon," Rowan leaned back in her tiny plastic chair, nodding when she remembered Bailey saying something about it to her earlier.
"Yes, and you must me the famous Dr. Rowan Potter, right? Double board certified who learned everything she knew from the famous Dr. Addison Montgomery?" Arizona looked at the blonde who was shocked, to say the least. "Daughter and sister of the Potters?"
"Yeah," Rowan nodded, taken aback by all the information she knew.
"Dr. Bailey, I see you're assisting with Jackson Prescott," Arizona looked from Bailey, down to the chart she was holding in her other hand. "You know, all due respect to Dr. Kenley—he was a wonderful physician—but, you know, I'm just surprised that he followed this course of treatment for so long when it wasn't, you know, working."
Bailey opened her mouth, offended.
"Oh, no, I'm not criticizing you," Arizona defended herself. "You didn't make the call."
"But I supported the call," Bailey slowly nodded her head. "Be— we hadn't turned the corner yet, but Kenley was sure that if we kept doing what we were doing—"
"Jack's case is quite severe," Arizona reminded Bailey.
"Jackson," Bailey corrected.
"Excuse me?" Arizona leaned her head forward.
Rowan had the feeling she should leave the two of them alone, but where else did she have to go? She could check on her mothers, but she just did just before coming to find Bailey.
And if luck wasn't on her side, she could run into her sister—if she was still in Seattle.
"Jackson is his name, and if you're suggesting," Bailey stands. "that we were torturing him with useless procedures—"
"A lot of senior peds surgeons believe that stricturoplasty works, and sometimes they're right," Arizona continues to smile.
"Yeah—"
"So we'll go with it today, but with his liver disease, we should start exploring other options," Arizona nodded. "I gotta run. Dr. Kenley had a big caseload. I'll see you in the O.R."
Arizona pointed back at the two as she skated away.
"W—" Bailey turned her head towards Rowan.
"I liked her. Definitely gay," Rowan shrugged before catching herself. "Not that I care because I'm engaged. But, that could be a Callie's one."
Bailey scoffs, "Of course you liked her."
💍
When lunch finally came, Rowan was in the middle of operating on the baby she'd been worried about.
She hoped Lexie would still be waiting for her by the time she got out of the operating room.
She was.
Lexie's eyes didn't light up like they should when you see the love of your life coming your way, which reminded Rowan this was all just a big game to keep her in the United States.
She sighs in relief when her butt meets the chair, and her eyes land on the salad that was currently being placed in front of her.
"For you," Lexie placed a plastic fork beside the container.
"How'd you know?" Rowan smiled, a few little flyaways had fallen out of her bun and into her face. Her long hair was tightly atop her head the last time Lexie saw her.
"We may just have interacted on a personal level just a little bit ago," Lexie sipped on her soda. "But I know who you are. And I never forget, remember? Photographic memory."
"That's pretty stalker like," Rowan widened her eyes with fake fear, Lexie snorting as she bit into her slice of pizza.
"So.." Lexie looked up awkwardly after she finished chewing. Her food was almost all gone because Rowan was gone for so long.
"I think we should start talking wedding plans," Rowan stabs her fork into the lettuce. "And, you know we're going to have to start sleeping in the same room. Izzie is starting to get suspicious."
"What— did she say something to you?" Lexie rests her elbow on the table, her chin resting on top of her fist.
"Yeah," Rowan nodded. "She just thought we were having troubles. I told her off."
Lexie holds back a smile at that.
"It's fine. We can sleep in the same bed, right?" The blondes green eyes flick up to Lexie's browns. "We're adults."
Lexie nods her head, but her mind is elsewhere.
